Sad Sad day for OXY. Could this one loss keep them out of the Playoffs?

yes, I'm not an expert but it'll make it tough on them.  I'm not sure if this will post correctly but check out the Pool B and Pool C threads on Post Patterns/General Football, you can try the links below.

Three Goals for the Cats As They Opened The Season (so far so good):

Goal #1 -- Continue "The Streak"  -- Complete...congrats to the Cats for ringing up #52!!

Goal #2 -- Win the NWC -- Still TBD --

Goal #3 -- Earn A  Playoff Bid -- Still TBD

So Far So Good!

GO CATS -- One Game At A Time
LEAVE NO DOUBT

So, with CalLu beating OXy and now the front runner for the Sciac bid I'd say the winner of Whitworth vs Linfield has a shot at a home game should they get in the playoffs.

It was nice to see that Whitworth could play that sloppy of a game and still get the W at Willamette.  Willamette's O-line did a good job of opening up holes in between the tackles for their rb's but Whitworth's Defense played whats been their usual bend but don't break style...Willamette had good field position and made lengthy drives when they didn't, they just couldn't get inside the red zone (their two long FG attempts were wide left, neither was even close).  Glad this one's over, Willamette always seems to play Whitworth tough.  Now its Linfield time, and Whitworth desperately needs to put pressur on the QB if they want to win this one.  Even with Linfield's new found running game I think Whitworth's objective shoud be to stop the pass and make Linfield beat them on the ground.  Offensively, Whitworth needs to do a better job of running play action to keep the opposing teams defense honest.  Willamette crowded the LOS and got burned because of it for two big plays (one a TD), the only problem was that Whitworth didn't run more than a couple play action passes all game...and when they did it was on 3rd down when everyone knew it was coming.

Yeah, congrats to the guys at Whitworth.  I followed the game pretty closely and they came up big when the needed to squeak out the win.  Willamette moved the ball well but couldn't finish off their drives or shot themselves in the foot.  Their Defense played good enough to win the game (IMO) but the Offense (and the Rat Defense) just didn't make/allow it happen.  I think next weeks game is going to be a good one.  Everything has changed (potentially) with the loss of Oxy to CalLu.  Yes, it could mean a home game for the NWC Champ but it could also mean the NWC champ sits home as we could have Cal Lu getting the Pool A and Redlands and Oxy competing for Pool C (well Oxy really unless they lose another game).  Need to hope Pool B opens up a little more to help our chances improve though I would be shocked if 2 SCIAC teams go and no NWC teams go.....2 more weeks and we'll know I guess. :)
Go Cats!

That Trinity play (video link on the front page) is mind boggling! Loved it!!!

SCIAC Games that could still mess things up:
Redlands vs. Cal Lutheran
Oxy vs. Chapman

From what I can tell...the front runner battle for Pool B bids are:

Case Western Reserve
Wesley
Whitworth/Linfield (winner)
Salisbury

Anybody have any other info......?

blue - According to the Pool B thread, those look like the 5 Pool B front runners at this time. Whitworth/Linfield will cancel one team out, leaving 4. Since there are 3 Pool B bids this year, some people seem to think there is a very good chance one of the Pool Bs will get a Pool C bid, but who knows for sure.

I've watched that Trinity video at least 10 times.

Also, did anyone catch the Portland State score? 73-68!!?? And it wasn't one of those 4 OT games with cheap TDs added on, either. It was all scored in regulation and set an all time FBS and FCS record. The Portland State QB threw 9 TD passes and lost!!
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Does anyone know if ESPN College Game Day has aired the segment about the Lemon brothers?

Dave and Scott said that the Lemon segment was probably going air next Saturday during the game-day show.

Blue, not sure how the above two games would "mess things up".  I assume by things you would mean Linfield (or Whitworth) getting a playoff bid.

With 4 teams (loser of Linfield/Whitworth is out IMO) competing for 3 Pool B slots I think we all are hoping that if the NWC "champ" doesn't get one of the B's it'll have a shot at a C bid.
With that in mind the best scenario is for Chapman (independent) to beat Oxy and thereby pretty much eliminate Oxy from the Pool C (they could still get there conference AQ).  Also if CalLu does beat Redlands that should take Redlands out of Pool C.
Worst Case Scenario ( I think), Redlands and Oxy win out and CalLu gets the AQ through their tie breaker rules.
Best Case for NWC fans: become a Whittier Poet fan and hope they win out over Redlands and OXY  :)

Just one guys opinion, didn't look at OWP, OOWP, Regional Rankings, or whatnot.
Actually I tried to find the new Regional Rankings but couldn't.
