Good to hear about Silva!  Should make the game more interesting for Whitworth to have their best recieving threat on the field.

QuoteSo Dens WHY is that important to know ?

Point of interest in that he got the gals the ring and is a major factor in your Sal T D tightening down.

Something is a little strange when Case Western Reserve at 8-0 is supposedly one of the top Pool B teams. They hung 35 on Chicago last week. Well,  Lewis and Clark scored 27 on Chicago a few weeks back. What does that tell you?    ::)

It could mean they are pulling a PLU (who only scored 39 against LC)...you know, doing the unthinkable and playing seniors who may only have this one shot to finally get some playing time or distributing the ball around to 15-16 different players.  Now, I haven't looked at the box score from the game and bluenote could very well be right, this may be an indicator of the actual strength of Case Western (and their schedule), or it could be a situation like the one described above.  I don't think the NWC conference champ has anyting to worry about when it comes to getting into the playoffs though.

Please, forgive me for posting off subject but this is impressive.  My cousin Ron Hartwig and his wife Charlotte, both Linfield grads and Wildcat fans just accomplished an amazing feat. They just this month completed their 8 year saga of running a marathon in every state in the union + Washington DC. He is age 63 and she's 60. They ran 2 marathon's this month in 2 weeks if you can believe that. Check out the

.....I'm thinking that is the case also but I couldn't tell you at this point...according to some of the posts on the Pool B thread it doesn't look as cut and dry as you make it. Linfield's loss to Willamette and Whitworth's loss to Redlands doesn't help either team.

bluenote...whoever wins the NWC will be a top 25 team with a resume that includes a bunch of wins in one of the toughest conferences in the nation.  Pat can come on here all he wants and talk about voters not being influenced by those factors but they are human...even the SI and ESPN pollsters admit to ranking teams in certain orders based on their conference strength and how they've done in that particular conference.  I don't get why everyone on this board is worried about these other pool B teams and their schedule, win loss column, etc.  Our respective teams need to win out to even have a chance so why don't we focus on this week?

On another note, I don't get why Andy Largent wasn't the special teams kicker of the week (at least if you compare him to the guy who got it).  Here's this weeks honoree

K Tom Laurich, Sr., Widener
Laurich hit field goals from 25 and 22 yards out in a 13-10 win against Delaware Valley.

Here's Andy's line:
27 and 33 yard field goal, the second to win the game in OT keeping Whitworth's playoff hopes alive.  He made both PAT's attempted, and caught a TD pass (he plays WR and I understand that may not count towards the honor since it is a different position...but its impressive nonetheless).

509 - I know what you are saying, but last year there were a couple of top 25 teams left out of last year's playoffs.

When the committee meets to make selections, there wont be a copy of the top 25 (D3football or AFCA) in the room.  More important to both Linfield and Whitworth will be winning out.  Linfield can finish with a 7-1 D3/regional record, while the Pirates can finish 8-1 d3/regional.  While the Redlands and LaVerne will essentially cancel each other out (SOS), Whitworth should continue to root for Stout (4-4) to keep its resurgence going.  The Cats should keep rooting for HSU (4-4).

Perhaps his SID or Coach did not nominate him.

From what I've observed from past playoff selections.....there's plenty to worry about when an NCAA selection committee controls your destiny...Can't wait till next year....AQ all the way.

From the 2006 DIII Football Handbook.....it says....and I quote
"If the evaluation of the primary criteria does not result in a decision by the committee..."

I don't see in this wording that the committee is to use the "Selection Criteria for Ranking and Selection" as hard and fast rules...In fact I don't see anywhere in this section the word "rules"..."formula"...."policy"

I do see the word "evaluation" by the committee.

According to Websters
The word criteria means...a standard of judging, a rule of test by which "opinions" may be "judged."

So it seems to me that the Selection Criteria are for the purpose of providing information to the committe in order for them to "evaluate"  and make selection "decisions" based on their opinions....not on hard fast rules or formulas.  The term "guide line" is not used but in essence I believe the committee has just that freedom as I "interpet" the Selection Criteria as it is written in the Handbook.  I suppose that each committe can interpet the Selection Criteria as they see fit from year to year.  This is a Handbook...not a written contract or legal document.

Living here in the heart of UAA country, I attend games from time to time. In my humble OP, the top teams in that league are weak compared to mid-level teams in the NWC. I would have to imagine a skilled team like wu would win the uaa, and a better team like whit. would roll through it.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.
