I didn't know that, Foss. You're a trivia goldmine.

That makes it suck more.

Redlands is a very good team and played well that day...especially after being down early and on the road. HOWEVER, Whitworth had a rookie QB playing for the FIRST TIME in a game. The polls as well as knowledgeable football fans take that into consideration. IMO Redlands had better hope they don't make the playoffs. I hate to see them waste $50 G's on a futile trip. LOL

Coco, I only know because I remember reading it recently in either one of the Around the Nations or one of the pregame writeups on the Linfield website.

You're right, it does suck - but like you said we really can't complain..
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

coco

Tenderloin,

Did you intend to post that here, or on the SCIAC board?

Foss,

After the young' uns play on Saturday, we can look forward to next year.

We're Wildcats and we support our team!

Should have linked my answer to downtown48 who mentioned Redlands. Whitworth wins the title again, beating Linfield again, and people get po'd!  LOL

While I do not necessarily agree with your suggestion that Whitworth could beat Redlands in the playoffs, I do diagree with you assessment that Kory Kemp being a rookie in his first game was the cause for the loss.  For one thing, he had his best game of the year (statistically) with 97 yds rushing (tied for a season best) and 172 yds (2nd best of the year).  Rather, the loss resulted from the Rat D giving up a few big plays (like the 79 yd pass for a TD that ended up being the winning score).  I think the D has improved from that first game and should be in good shape if/when they make the play-offs.  All that being said, the Offense is going to have to be more balanced and/or creative in the play-offs or the Rats will be in trouble.

Oh yeah--welcome to the Board(s) Tenderloin---look forward to reading your classy, insightful posts! :)

I believe it's the first time ever outside of the D3football.com top 25 (which started in '03) and that now only Mt. Union and UMHB have been ranked every week of every year.
Not complaining about the Cats falling from the top 25 (their record this year doesn't justify a ranking) but I am curious how often a team drops from the top half of the poll to completely out of the poll in one week.  Maybe somebody has other examples....just curious.

Now on to UPS.  Still can't believe they lost like that to Menlo.

I'm sure Cawcdad can comment on this but the stats look like every time UPS had the ball they turned it over (I think there were 2 INTs and 4 or 5 fumbles lost....)....
UPS looked u inspired and just not very good yesterday. The Oaks were amped up and ready to play on the last day of the season / senior day. They were hitting hard and that caused fumbles. The Loggers passing game looked very weak and being down as they were in the 4th quarter thay had to go to the air and the Oaks sat back and ball hawked, alost picking off a couple of more. The way the Loggers looked yesterday had me wondering how they had won several games and how they could beat L&C by so much. They lost to the Oaks by a similar score as did the Pios.

Since the issue of class was brought up recently...

I heard Scharer tried to shoot himself after the game, but...
the bullet was intercepted by Phil Entel of the Whitworth Pirates.    ;)

I requested that this post be removed because I thought it was in extremely bad taste but I guess Pat thinks it's fine and didn't remove it.

I think us Cat fans probably find it more tasteless than other though any suggestion of a player shooting themselves (even in jest) is tasteless.....but the punch line was certainly appropriate.....I dunno....I probably would have found it funny if it had been another teams's guy.... :-\

Monrovia, it might be that it takes the combination of a team being given a lot of respect by being ranked fairly high despite more than one loss AND THEN dropping a third game. I don't know how close of a comparison this is, but I was looking at SJU's rare down year in '04. They started the season ranked #2, fell to #16 after two losses, and then after their 3rd loss fell all the way to #46. I realize that being ranked #16 isn't in the top half, but I thought it was a similar plummet (even more so, actually) than the 'Cats falling from #12 to #28 this week. The next season the Johnnies were back on top, going 11-1. Let's hope the 'Cats can rebound in a similar way in '08
