Not complaining about the Cats falling from the top 25 (their record this year doesn't justify a ranking) but I am curious how often a team drops from the top half of the poll to completely out of the poll in one week.  Maybe somebody has other examples....just curious.

Monrovia, it might be that it takes the combination of a team being given a lot of respect by being ranked fairly high despite more than one loss AND THEN dropping a third game. I don't know how close of a comparison this is, but I was looking at SJU's rare down year in '04. They started the season ranked #2, fell to #16 after two losses, and then after their 3rd loss fell all the way to #46. I realize that being ranked #16 isn't in the top half, but I thought it was a similar plummet (even more so, actually) than the 'Cats falling from #12 to #28 this week. The next season the Johnnies were back on top, going 11-1. Let's hope the 'Cats can rebound in a similar way in '08
Thanks foss!
Go Cats!

Since the issue of class was brought up recently...

I heard Scharer tried to shoot himself after the game, but...
the bullet was intercepted by Phil Entel of the Whitworth Pirates.    ;)

I requested that this post be removed because I thought it was in extremely bad taste but I guess Pat thinks it's fine and didn't remove it.
I think us Cat fans probably find it more tasteless than other though any suggestion of a player shooting themselves (even in jest) is tasteless.....but the punch line was certainly appropriate.....I dunno....I probably would have found it funny if it had been another teams's guy.... :-\

Well....I wouldn't call the first OR second part that funny as you do. And I wouldn't find it funny to say something like that about another athlete from another school coming from a Linfield fan.

Difference of opinion--I guess I have a slightly warped sense of humor...but at least I'm honest :)

Its funny that some of you Linfield fans are so offended by those comments, because I took that quote straight from one of you guys.  2001 when you guys beat us and biglin threw 5 ints, someone said the exact same thing about him, it was meant to be a comical joke.  Please don't be a pansy and relax.

It has nothing to do about being a Pansy. There is nothing comical about your "joke". I stand by my above quote that states that anyone who would make such a comment about a student athlete is a moron, I don't care where they are from. So if someone from Linfield said that about Biglin in 2001 I consider him a moron also.

Well now, I'm not a cat fan, or a pansy, or anti-guns for that matter.  I just didn't find your joke funny.  I see a modicum of humor in it though if as you say you were turning it around from a Linfield fan previously saying it about your guy in '01.  As I said before, you sure can hold a grudge.

edit to post follows:

On a lighter note regarding interceptions, and I'm not claiming this story to be true as I wasn't standing on the sidelines but the story goes as follows:

During the 1979 season Frosty's son Brad was the QB, during one particularly bad game, after his 3rd or 4th pick he came to the sidelines and Frosty frustrated said "you gotta quit throwing it to those guys" to which Brad replied, "But DAD, those are the only guys that are open"  ;D

Thanks for doing the legwork. Good example and I think it's a fair analysis of the situation. At some point the voters just feel it's the last straw.

Bluenote -- I didn't agree that it was that heinous in 2001 or 2007.

Agreed pat...I think Linfield has been getting the benefit of the doubt for a while now...top 25 teams don't drop the games that they dropped this season.  Not nearly consistent enough this year.  I feel like they're close but you just can't win games against good teams when you average 3 TO's per game...back to the drawing board!

d-train

Congrats to the Pirates. Don't get caught up in all the playoff talk and look past the Loggers this week.

Also, interesting 'pride' game on the slate in Salem this Saturday. It would be nice to see the Lute seniors go out with 7 wins. They've had two weeks to prepare for the Fly, but I think this is a solid (though somewhat inconsistent) Willamette team.

bluenote

d-train....the PLU/Willamette game could shape out to be a very good battle. I think both teams will play hard and bring it. I'm rooting for the Lutes win. I may even consider catching that game myself.

Pat...I rest my case and have stated my opinion.

downtown48....couldn't agree with you more on your last post.

No problem with that.

If I could catch the Pacific Lutheran University - Willamette University game this weekend I would like to.
I'd rather see that than the Lewis and Clark game, actually.  I guess it's the unpredictability.
I cannot though, so that's a mute point.
I CAN see the Redlands - California Lutheran University game but I'd better stay home and listen to the 'CATS in case they do something really bizarre and make the Lewis and Clark program D3football.com headliners.  >:(

George Thompson

Linfield fans,

We all know what the problems have been the last two years.    Here are some revealing numbers:

2001 - 9 games      1,766 rushing yards
2002 - 12 games    2,625   (David Russell and Marty Williams)
2003 - 12 games    1,880
2004 - 13 games    1,756
2005 - 11 games    1,245
2006 -  9 games     1,025
2007 -  8 games     1,088

2003 was a great passing team; yet we still averaged over 150 yards per game rushing.    In 2005, I would say that with a better rushing attack, we might have won a 2nd Stagg Bowl.  We relied way too much on our awesome passing attack that year.   2005 was a HUGE drop in rushing.   2006 and 2007 have only furthered that downward trend.

And don't be too hard on Scharer.    He WAS our team leader the last two years.      He just had a very bad day Saturday.    With a more solid rusing attack, he would not have had so much D pressure.    His career TD:Int ratio is quite good.     Our 6 losses in 2 years can not be rested on his shoulders.

Find one or two solid tailbacks and we can bounce back.    Time to recruit and coach good runners.

Whitworth, I have no hard feelings about you at all.    In fact, I like the rivalry that has developed.   Your coaches are great.      I wish you well in the playoffs.    Make the NWC proud.

GO CATS!  GO!

George
GO CATS! GO!

coco

I feel the same way you do, 48. D3.com has been very kind to us in the past, but we haven't earned a spot in the Top 25 after Saturday's game and the previous 2 losses.

The PLU/Willamette game on Saturday should be a great one. I'm pulling for the Lutes, also.

And I wish Whitworth success in the playoffs as well.

GO NWC!

OK....

How does a renowned air attack recruit a tailback who wants 20-30 touches a game? LINFIELD can't promise too much with the present scheme.
