dt48,

thankyou for giving me some comic relief on what otherwise has become a very depressing day.

No problem...you could actually get those printed up on the website I did that on ;D

On the bright side, at least you won't have the pressure of keeping the NWC record in the playoffs near the top... ;)

RFB, thanks for saying the SCIAC is ducking Linfield.  I already know what we won't be seeing any SCIAC schools in the near feature but I think we might have found a d3 to play non-conference but my lips are sealed.

DOC Chapman would be nice don't you think ?  :-X

I just sent the following email off to the NCAA, specifically,   wburrow@ncaa.org
I suggest many NWC fans write similar protests.    That is the only way we will get heard.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NCAA Selection Committee,

You really dishonored the Northwest Conference.   You left out our league champion, Whitworth, from this year's playoffs.  My observations:

1. The NWC is one tough league.  2 national champions in the last 8 years.  Plus many more at the NAIA level.

2. Whitworth is one fine program and would beat 1/2 of the teams you selected.

3.  You have a MAJOR bias for east coast teams and are prejudiced against West Coast teams.

4.  You punish NWC teams for losing games to good NCAA II and NAIA teams.  You do not understand how difficult it is for us to play NCAA III teams without paying enormous travel costs.

Whitworth got hosed by you.  It was absolutely unfair!

Wayne Burrow, NCAA Director of Championships replied to my email.    He said
"Very simply, the NWC is a good league.    Whitworth's loss to Redlands played a major factor in how the teams were ultimately ranked in the region."

He never said it, but, in my opinion, the loss to Azuza Pacific played a role also.
Somehow, I personally believe the NWC schools need to avoid Division II and NAIA schools.    It can only hurt us.     It never seems to help us.      Azuza Pacific would beat most Division III teams.

Whitworth fans, I feel for you.    You were robbed.      You deserved to be in the playoffs.   Like I said, I believe you could beat 1/2 of teams selected.

GO CATS! GO!    (next year)

Thanks, George. Did he say anything about UW-Eau Claire's 2nd D3 loss to a 3-7 UW-River Falls and how that might play a "major factor"?
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Wow...I didn't realize that's who their other D3 loss was to...that makes it 1,000 times worse in my opinion!!!  AMAZING!  Can you imagine if this was Linfield??  I'm sticking up for Whitworth here and I hate them!!  What a joke...lose to a 3-7 team, don't win your conference and you get in over a team that loses to a playoff team and wins their conference...AMAZING!

George,

Linfield has been and is currently trying to get those teams off of their schedule.  We can't fly to Texas or Minnesota or Ohio every other week and the pansies in the SCIAC won't schedule us despite sweetheart deals.  So it makes it difficult to get those D2 and NAIA games off of the slate.  Thankfully it sounds like we've gotten somebody in D3 that has some testicular fortitude to schedule us...

Home is so sweet.

Three States, over 1,000 miles in a motorhome and 2 blowed out tires. What a trip.

Nice to meet and see you fellow posters. You know who you are. You are a good bunch or people.

I am going to continue reading to catch up. Nice to be home.

And another point for Mr. Burrows -- We're not in leagues. They are called "conferences."

NCAA should turn over the D3 piece of it to Pat Coleman. He knows more about D3 than all the rest of them put together.

Good point, Foss. I wonder how they rationalize that.
Two words:  THE STREAK

With fewer Pool B bids available, that route is always risky.  I agree that the NWC got screwed.  One way to prevent it in the future is to get one or two more teams in the conference.  I'm sure there are plenty of them out there that are at least as good as Puget Sound.  The NWC people should not shrug this off and they should let the NC00 know about their feelings.  They should get to work recruiting a couple more teams too.  Personally, with the way SJU played yesterday and with how they squeaked by Carleton and St. Olaf, I don't think they should be going anywhere.  I'm sure that having the winningest coach in history and having a storied program and being ranked, without foundation in my opinion, #2 in the country helped them out more than we realize.  I don't see how one can squeak by Carleton and St. Olaf and be #2.  As a Johnnie fan, I'm glad their going to the playoffs but I think some other teams of equal or better caliber are being left home.

Chewey,

That would be nice, and we'd love to have more D3 teams to play, but there aren't that many on the west coast, and it's brutal trying to get them to play us! It's a song we've been singing for years.

Next year we'll be an AQ conference with Menlo in.

We enjoyed meeting you and your family yesterday, PPJ. Sorry about your tire troubles. I hope you'll be making many more trips up this way in the next 3 years.

back to the playoffs.

What The Hey!!!!!!!!!!

You think the NCOO whould have a finale committe to finish the brackets.

I do believe there is a computer program that figures the strength of schedule for the teams. But after that is there a finale committe to make sure everything pans out?

For instances like this. I feel for the RATS. You got hosed.

DT48-  What are the "sweetheart deals" you are speaking of?  Was there going to be help with travel $$ or some other guarentee?  I really am curious what you meant because you obviously know what you are talking about.

I notice that Oxy and Linfield have open dates on the same two weeks next year. ;)

I notice Linfield and St. John's have the same open dates in 09...Oxy is a lost cause, they probably have Linfield's number blocked...Lewis and Clark is on speed dial though! ;)
