I wouldn't spend too much time advocating Touchdown Illustrated as a program insert. They picked Hampden-Sydney #1 in the preseason last year, and I (not Keith!) wrote about it in Around the Nation.

As for ONU/MUC, there's the little trouble of these results that muck up the works.

Mount Union 70, John Carroll 0
John Carroll 50, Ohio Northern 25

Just a little monkey wrench to confuse the issue.

Mr. Moderator I missed this little bit didn't I?
"Editor's note: Keith McMillan worked into his contract that he gets one regular-season week off for every 50 columns he writes. Nah, just kidding. He's getting married this week. Pat Coleman fills in below. "

By the by, did Mr. Moderator happen to notice the Division III article in that rag devoted to Brett Elliott and Casey Allen?

I haven't seen a TDI this year, no.

Dear Pat:  Since I could not log on and respond  to your

" Immediate thoughts of week 8 "    " sorry that user does not seem to exist in our database" (message)

.. Here they are,
1.  craszy e-mail of the week..

and for the record I did not write it,   but feel the same way..  I have been on here as long as anyone and have seen over the years how YOU have covered Mt. U,  They were the # 1 most of the time and you gave them the front coverage most of the time..

"Heck"  I will give you a Dollar for everytime Linfield got that coverage "IF" you give me a Dollor for everytime you gave MT. U the coverage..Over the last three years .  guess I win?   I think that was his point .. The  # 1 team should (has in the past )  get the most coverage..   ;)

2.  Now as for Your current front page "  ONCE IN A DECADE"   That's a great story &  record and should be on the front page.  (nice job)  But in relationship  to  "  ONCE IN 5 DECADES"  That Should have received more  than the "one sentence " of coverage with no pictures  the 50 year streak got.   Not even close.. :o   IMO..   Let's see how much Baldwin Wallace thinks about it in a few week? 39 and in danger big time..

This is for Ralph T, QB stats,, check out  Brett Elliott  this week?  17/22 , 0 int, 364 yds,  plus 6 TD's  all in just the first half plus 0:54  sec.of the 3rd.   not to dad?   And the guys from  the OXY broadcast did a good job and called a spade a spade when it came to the "homer clock"  time keeping..

desertcat1,

You have to register separately to comment in the Daily Dose.  Most people use the same login as they have for these boards.

I will disagree with you, though.  I think, overall, Linfield has received generous coverage on this site.  Part of that is due to its rabid fan base, but I think Pat and company have given us plenty of attention over the years.

Wildcatinwi:
Do you think both  streaks got the same coverage?

Come on , one small sentence ? No picture?  It was history... I wouldn't see it again in my life time..  No,  I disagree , coverage  in the past  was very light..EVEN in the mud..  And we  paid to fly OAS  out just to cover the game..   Talk about  buying the press..  That's the pot calling  the kettle black.

DC 1,
Perhaps someone, who has the 27 page Supplement that the McMinnville News Register did last week on "The Streak" could forward a copy to the D3 staff.  I haven't seen the piece, but I hear they did a very good job and might be willing to let the D3 folks use some of the materials if they decided they wanted to do a piece on this extraordinary accomplishment at any level of collegiate sports.

dc1...care to guess which LINFIELD WILDCAT will be the FIRST player chosen (out of app. 175 positions already picked this year) for TEAM OF THE WEEK?

wildcatinwi, you must be aware as of the 7th week of the 2005 a LINFIELD player has not been nominated by anyone in the NWC or WIAC.

dc1,

I completely agree that 50 straight winning seasons is a great accomplishment, but I guess I don't see it as any more significant than 47, 48, 49, or 51.  In my opinion, the BIG story was when Linfield broke the previous record in 1998.  Linfield has been so dominant lately that the streak hasn't been remotely in suspense, so it hasn't been a major story.

DenSLA,

It is weird that no Linfield player has been on the team of the week.  I thought that players were nominated by their own SIDs, but I could be wrong.  Why would we expect someone in the WIAC to nominate someone from Linfield?  In any case, I'll predict that Elliot is the first Wildcat honored this week.

Dense:

It doesn't happen without nominations.

Desertcat:

I detailed on the blog post itself where Linfield has been on the front page more than Mount Union this year. And before that you were not #1. You owe me money.

This is EXACTLY it. You want more Linfield coverage? Build your own site. Meanwhile we are going to cover the national news. That includes someone extending their own record which they have owned for seven years, yes, but not as a priority over or at the exclusion of other events which are not a given year after year.

You want to complain about the streak not getting respect? Read Wittenberg's site.

....is it just my imagination or has the Wildcat Gang (just kidding Pat)...taken over this blog? Maybe we can get some of the Johnnie Faithfull to come on board and start bragging about how good the Johnnies are now since they don't have to play Crown.... and liven things up a little....  :-* (big jam session at the Elks next month to warm up for the playoffs!)

When your streak is broken will you be asking for front page coverage?   ;)
