AWW RIIIGHT!!

Thank you, WC11! That's the one I've been waiting to see. I could watch him all day. Not only was he an amazing football player, but he is just the nicest guy you could ever meet, which many of you already know. He doesn't have an ounce of ego, but does have an incredible work ethic.

Not bad for a kid who came out of an 8-man football league in high school.

I liked the part where he said it was a draw to Russell, but he wasn't going anywhere. Wait, there he goes, off down the field.

I hear there's a big football luncheon coming up on June 7th for the Cats...any news there?

Any chance we can take the four run win over UW-Whitewater, convert the runs into football points, travel back in time, and give them to the '05 'Cat team that played the Warhawks on a different sort of field? I'm sure the baseball team would understand....

WC11, your work with the vids and interviews this off-season has been incredible. Thanks a bunch. Russell was unreal.

I liked your vid a couple of weeks ago on Joey Rector, as well. He was one of the nicest guys I knew while at Linfield. In addition to being a great player, he was unbelievably tough. We lived in the same dorm our sophomore year. After one game early in the season, Joey was in a ton of pain and was having a very hard time breathing. I, along with another guy, took him to the hospital and waited in the Emergency Room for him to be seen.

And man, did we have to wait a long time, too. Before they would even see him, they made him track down and present his parent's insurance info, and sign a bunch of papers. I'm telling you, the guy could hardly lift his arm up, let alone sign his name repeatedly. By this time, speaking was becoming difficult for him. We asked the hospital staff over and over if they would just examine and treat the poor guy first, and let us deal with the insurance and paperwork afterwards. They informed us that just wasn't going to happen. For three young college kids, it was our first real glimpse into just how completedly #*&%! up and ridiculous the healthcare system can be.

After waiting for what seemed like forever, they finally saw him and determined he had a collapsed lung. I have no idea how he played a football game with that, especially at RB where he must have been taking a pounding. Fortunately, he recovered after a few weeks and continued on his tear.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

+1 Foss for that story about Joey Rector.  Just another example of a star 'Cat that just did his work and deflected the praise to others.

Really appreciate the words about Catdomealumni.com.  We still have a few great treats for the rest of the summer (Spring Ball Clip, Big Hits III, ’05 UWW/Linfield Revisted, 1984 playoff highlights, etc) so keep coming back and tell your fellow Wildcats about the site.

Cris,

The annual Rutschman Luncheon is the first weekend of June and is held at the Elk's lodge off of 3rd street in Mac.  I didn't make it last year but will swing by next weekend.

Greedy hospital. Let the kid suffer while you make sure you get your money.

Didn't Rector have another injury to deal with, too? When we had our first experience with a torn ACL and took our daughter to a sports medicine clinic in Tualatin, he was there, also. Maybe an ankle or knee injury?

Who all is going to the Rutschman luncheon? I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks, WC11.

coco, now that you mention it - yes, I believe he did but I don't recall exactly what it was. One of the great things about Rector is that despite being banged up a lot and having some pretty nasty injuries, he still snagged the starting RB spot by his sophomore season. And as you know, this was long before the Air Matthews and Butcher heavy passing days. This was when the 'Cats were run, run, and more run. There were a number of very good running backs recruited for those 'Cat teams, most who were now upper classmen at the time. Yet with legend Gary McGarvie now gone after '92, Rector pretty much took the starting spot as only a sophomore.

Man I loved reading that 2nd Wave report!  What was that quote?..."most athletic crop of prospects in the last ten years..."  That's saying something.  Will Coach Joe and Coach Brosius be teaming up to bring in football/baseball players?...I noticed a number of those prospects were playing both sports.

Wildcat11...Can't wait to hear your report on the luncheon.  Love to see those videos...

Catdomealumni.com just posted a blog entry regarding David Russell from the 2002 starting O-Line:  2002 O-Line Speaks About D-Russ.  It's a good read about how much those guys loved clearing the way for #25.
