QuoteI think it only helps the Cats to bring a greater level of interest in Wildcat Football.  Maybe with this level of publicity...

Wildcat'64 - you do know you are talking about the McM News-Register?  ;)

Just got back from practice again today.....seems like a large turnout to me. About 10 QBs working out, 12-15 running backs. There is some speed and size in the receiving corp. I haven't observed the lineman that much because they have been practicing on the grass area away from the CatDome but there are quite a number of the big boys going at it over there. There seems to be a lot of team unity and the coaches are constantly barking out tips to the players. It seems like a very good start.

Does Linfield have a JV program?

Pine,

Yes and no.  No NWC team can have true JV program like a Mount Union or others in that area.  Too few teams and too much distance.  However, there is a JV program that plays some games during the season either intersquad, vs the alumni team, or some semi pro teams.  The young kids do get full tempo looks during the year.  The roster will be paired down to 125 by the start of the year.

I should have new material all week long on the blog.  Keep checking in.  -11

Top Cat 1,

Welcome back, you've been conspicuous by your absence.  You can quit worrying about that campaign and starting worrying about Wildcat Football now that we're just a couple weeks away!

Good thing I can't spell...I stumbled upon number 10 (there is an error on the sheet) the first go around when i left out a letter.  Take out the second "c" and you'll have it.  50/50

There have been a few 50's reported.  Old Beancounter nailed it (again) and a number of guys from the NAIA board ran all 50.  I think being out in the mid-west you get exposed to some of those small D1 conference teams.

I've traded emails with the guy who has put these together and asked him about a D3 quiz.  He seemed responsive but who knows if he'll get around to it.  I think the D3 quiz would be much harder than the D1.

Good to see you're still alive (509).

I fully agree. I got 50/50 but never would have if I was not exposed to some of the more undercover teams that my directTV allows me to watch here in the midwest.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Whitworth Camp:

The defense may surprise some people this year.  The d-line looks to be the weakest area right now even thought the pirates do return both d-tackles.  The d-ends will be young and undersized which could cause some serious problems against the better teams (Linfield, redlands, willamette).  The linebackers are good.  Two situational starters return (Layton Brown, Nate Hadley) and there are 4 or 5 other guys still fighting for playing time in the team's deepest position.  The secondary is plenty athletic enough to make a lot of the plays that the group last year did but still needs to learn the schemes and the opponent's tendencies to make the jump.  The addition of Jesse Clark (Joel Clark's twin brother) is big as he will be used a lot like Tully last year at safety and reciever.

The offense WILL be able to run.  I would expect a lot of one back 4 wide type formations so that Whitworth can keep the defense from loading up the box, especially with a group of very capable recievers.

Nice report.  Where has Jesse Clark been the last several years?  Didn't Joel graduate 2 or 3 years ago?
