...Redlands is no Hardin-Simmons University....the Rats are playing the lower level teams again to get their record looking half way decent.

Whitworth: 2006/2007 NWC Champs

The real deal in the NWC : Linfield Wildcats  4 National Championships--32 Conference Titles--39 First Team All-Americans--All Level College Record of 52 consecutive winning seasons (1956-Present)

Here's to the the Rats getting their heads handed to them this weekend!  Tough call for me since I hate Redlands almost as much but it's tough to call that one a rivalry...

Hello one and all! First thing first, the Rats have been looking foward to this game all year and everyone in the Pirate Circle has been waiting for this game. If the dogs come out flat this weekend Redlands might be the ones walking away with a little more than their heads in thier hands.

As for a rivalry, I know for a fact people up in the pine hate Redlands for dodging Whitworth last year in the playoffs. And Redlands hates Whitworth for beating them 3 out of 4 years. If thats not a rivalry then what is.

Well...I predict it may be a tie because both teams are terrible this year.
Blue, I'm sure your just talking smack and I'm usually right there with you but this was weak.  I can't say if the Rats are good or not this year but I don't think Redlands is a "terrible" team (unless you were some how referring to the reported 'class' issues).  Anyway, I think this could be a good game if Whitworth can up their game from last week.  If not then it will be a long night in SoCal for the Rats.  Ahoy!....(oops, sorry, slipped back into yesterday's pirate talk).
Go Cats!

Blue,

You really need to pull your head out.   Call it for what it is an anticipated great game between the NWC and SCIAC champ.  Kind of hard to call two teams terrible after week one.  Couldn't I say the same thing about Linfield, Plu, or any team in America that lost in week one.  Don't be so upset because you have a bye this week.

Right back at ya potty mouth.  :-*

Lighten up guys....I consider them both terrible.  ;D

Gig Harbor Cat

I guess you should define it by playing Haskins or HSU  The only thing that is the same is the first letter of their name
Face it there are teams that like early season cupcakes VS playing against quality programs

In case you don't make it over to the SCIAC board--this is precious.

Also, there's this irony from an article in the San Bernardino Sun:

QuoteUniversity of Redlands football coach Mike Maynard admits one his biggest challenges is finding nonconference opponents each year. Many of the teams his SCIAC opponents schedule just don't want to play the Bulldogs.

For the most part those are the weaker teams so while it can be an inconvenience, it gives Maynard a chance to play a better schedule.
...

Well, coach, maybe if you agreed to return games and exchanged film then perhaps you wouldn't have so much trouble finding nonconference opponents to play. Also, if you're looking for a challenging opponent who'd be happy to play you, then call (503) 883-2579.

Terrible? You really do need to come back to the light.

No, you need to scamper back to the nest.

No, I think I'll stay awhile.

RFB,

Talk all your junk but you know the truth.  Linfield actively pursued to play Redlands this off season because we had perfect open dates.  Hell Linfield even tried to sweeten the deal by offering to kick in on some of the Dawg's expenses if they came to Portland but Maynard still said no and instead signed a one-year deal with a IIAC team (and didn't exchange film).

I'm come to realize that Redlands will never play the 'Cats in the regular season anymore because we have handled the Dawg 5-0 and three of those have come via monkey stomp.  So keep yapping but you know your program keeps proving they are scared.

Bulldogs facing tough fight

University of Redlands football coach Mike Maynard admits one his biggest challenges is finding nonconference opponents each year. Many of the teams his SCIAC opponents schedule just don't want to play the Bulldogs.
For the most part those are the weaker teams so while it can be an inconvenience, it gives Maynard a chance to play a better schedule.

The Bulldogs (1-0), face their second stiff test tonight when defending Northwest Conference champion Whitworth (Wash.) invades Ted Runner Stadium.

It will be the fifth straight year the teams have played. The Pirates, based out of Spokane, won the first three before the Bulldogs got in the win column against them last year in their season opener.

"It's going to be a challenge," Maynard said. "We want to play the best teams out there that will play us, and this one certainly makes sense. It helps our strength of schedule, provided we win. And it gets us ready for conference play."
Sounds like coach Maynard is trying ;)

Final: Concordia 9, at St. John's 6  :o

Makes Willamette's start look that much more impressive.

Yep, I agree.  The Pirates are terrible.

Which only goes to show how much better Whitworth's coaches must be if such a terrible team beat such a great team like Linfield the last two years.

Agree 100%.  If the Bearcats beat SOU today then color me very impressed.  I thought they would be good on offense but I thought the losses of their fine LBs would be too huge to overcome.  Guess we'll see over the next few hours.

Upsets flying left and right today!  So far the Pios are holding close to PP.  Has the UPS CMS game ended yet?  I saw they were in tripe overtime....closer than  anybody thought I think.
