Regarding L&C....

When people talk about how football players are treated on the L&C campus, we understate the problem on this board.  The "culture" of L&C views football players as "potential rapists" and or a band of woman haters.  It isn't just a few people...it is a culture.

Intercollegiate athletics means less and less on Palatine Hill.   L&C is a school that is more or less of a wannabe Reed College in Portland.  When I go on hoops trips around the conference, every building we visit has the basketball games as the primary event in the building....IOW, the whole building shuts down for games....no weight lifting, no classes....nothing but the games that night.  You go to L&C on game night....and there will be yoga and womens self defense courses being taught *while the game is going on*.  Only at L&C...not at PLU, UPS, Willamette, GFU...or even Whitman.

D-train has it nailed....the administration pretty much knows what needs to happen in order for football to have half a chance there.   The question isn't the medicine...it is whether the patient wants to take it or not.

Wildcat Spotlight: Perseverance Pays Off
[/b][/size]

In this week's Wildcat Spotlight is Senior starting offensive guard, Eric Holtgraves.

Eric has had to endure 3 major knee surgeries over the past 4 years but he's managed to overcome the pain and get back on the field.

Knowing Eric, he's a great young person and a talented offensive linemen. This is a nice write up.

Excerpts:

---Holtgraves admits that the road back to football after three knee operations was one of the hardest things he's ever had to do, and that he couldn't have done it by himself.

"I would not have come back if I did not have the support of my family, my girlfriend, and my teammates," said Holtgraves. "Every time I would get discouraged they would always remind me why I was doing this."

---When asked what lessons he's learned from these four arduous seasons of college football, Holtgraves was quick to answer.

"Never quit," Holtgraves said. "There might be some setbacks in the road, but never enough to stop you. I've learned a lot about attitude and teamwork. Those lessons right there have probably helped me more than anything I've learned in school."

Just cast my vote for Elliot.....I note that he has already moved to #13 on the list (236 votes).....I would think if we could mobilize the D3 nation, we could truly make a statement about D3 football.  VOTE EARLY AND OFTEN---TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

coco

Big congratulations to Elliott for making the D3 Team of the Week, too!
That's outstanding!
Two words:  THE STREAK

Wildcat'64

The votes are rolling in....Brett just slipped into 11th place overtaking UofO QB Kellen Clemmens (until last week). Run Brett Run.....vote early and often....The D3 nation can pull this off if we set our minds to it!

Agreed, this could be a very good thing for DIII
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

Wildcat'64

More Votes from D3 Nation coming in for Elliot....Brett has just moved into 10th place out of 41 nominees for the Heisman.  If you haven't voted...do so...tell all your friends and family to vote in the name of Small College football....what a statement if every supporter of Small College football would cast their ballot for a D3 player....keep those votes coming!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

I've been voting

1) Because much like Joe Dudek in 1985, I think BE is a viable candidate.

2) Gotta make the media muckity mucks more aware of D3.

3) If we could pull it off it would be big news

Note: Maurice Drew has been getting some serious votes in the last hour or so.

We need a lot more votes to get close and we'll have to mobilize in the last few weeks to win.  I thought we'd be over 1,000 by now.  I voted 10 times and got 7 other friends to vote.

Freebird

I agree with JT on all three points

I have voted with 2 e-mail addresses and am encouraging others on the Bethel campus to do the same.

Brett Elliot for Heisman!

Ralph Turner

Now let's be realistic about this, I voted for Elliott as a write-in on Sunday night.  I thought that this would be a great thing for D3.  Yeah, he is a former D1 QB.  We in the ASC have 2 new QB's who played at other levels...so it is a D3 thing, too.  He is as worthy a player in the highest ideals of the Heisman Trophy as there is.

I have now recognized the very significant side benefit that will accrue to all of us on these boards...

The higher that Elliott finishes is a proxy for the "get-out-the vote effort" by the Linfield fans, but also Willamette and Whitworth and even L&C, not to mention the Johnnies, the Tommies, the Gusties, the Bethels, the MUC crowd, all of us in the ASC and the entire body of D3 fans.

Imagine the complete and invaluable debt of eternal gratitude that the Linfield and Catdome nation will owe all of us for the accolades bestowed upon Brett Elliott! ;D 8)

To those of you for whom altruism is not enough, I cannot imagine a better motivation to

Vote Early!  Vote Often!

Elliott for Heisman!

Tuxguy

Thanks Ralph........Well said!!!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

JT

I just dropped another 5 votes on Elliott.

I agree with Ralph.  Plus they'll be other viable D3 candidates in the future.  We can get behind one deserving guy almost every year.

Any of you math majors got a fix on how many reliable voters (votes) we'll need each week?
