I do enjoy listening to Bob Castle call a game, but I will agree with a couple of previous posts that when he gets excited, he is harder to understand.  When Stone returned the int for a touchdown, I don't think we heard who it was until he was in the endzone, 92 yards later.  But at least he's equal opportunity for excitement - he was also tough to follow during the Linfield int for a TD.

I'll say this -- as a play-by-play guy I can tell you that picking up who intercepted the pass is really difficult, and it's hard to pick up the name of the defender off your spotting chart while you're also in the middle of calling the runback.

The offensive guys you should know fairly easily by the time you get a couple possessions into the game. But you don't call a cornerback's name every time down the field, so picking that name out of your memory bank is easier said than done.

Point taken.

Foss and MC, I appreciate you taking my post in the right spirit.  You are right, Whitworth's program was in the dumps for a long time.  Back in my day our head coach was a part time employee at Whitworth and ran his own restaurants as his 'real' job.

I am proud of how the program has developed, but getting an 'outsiders' perspective is also encouraging.  I am glad it meant a lot to Linfield to beat Whitworth.

Of course next year we'll be hopin' for a little Pirate jig  ;)
Hey not to get into next year too much but there are a lot of young players on both teams...could be interesting for sure.
Go Cats!

Cats made it into the top 25 this week which I'm glad to see and a bit surprised as well.  Don't get me wrong, I think we have the makings of a good team but thought we might not crack the 25 until we beat Willamette.  Cool!

I wasn't expecting it either until after a (hopefully) win over Willamette. The victory over Whitworth might have meant something to the voters. Also, maybe the fact that Hardin-Simmons is now 5-1, and the 'Cats only loss was in the final minute or so on the road to them looks "better" now than it did a few weeks ago. Unless Willamette blows it we could be having a game between two ranked NWC teams in a couple of weeks.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

And I'm concerned about exactly that.  PLU isn't looking like a powerhouse this year, but consistency has been our problem, well . . . forever.  The last time we went up to Tacoma we got shellacked 38-7, and last year was just embarrassing, so I really, really hope our guys don't get caught looking ahead after this weekend.

Somehow that LaCrosse game is not looking so magnificent now.

yeah, but their loss was to MHB by 2 and they would have won it if they could have converted PATs
Go Cats!

Great W for the Cats on Saturday.  Tough first half with those turnovers.  The interception was 100% the receivers fault from my perspective.  I was up in the grandstands calling for two quick slants by both the outside and slot receiver as it was wide open... that was exactly what was called and Cole Franklin put the ball right on the money... #9 the receiver simply didn't run the route... from an ex-receivers standpoint there is almost no way you should allow a DB to jump your slant route that badly... I bet if you watch film on that play you wonder what the heck he was doing.

With Franklin scrambling like he does it sure is nice to see the WR's block downfield so well.  #9 had a key block on Franklin's long TD run.  Hopefully Cole will learn to keep his eyes downfield scanning for receivers while he is scrambling as they are doing a decent job of coming back to the ball.

Hopefully we can get through the L&C game with no injuries as that has happened a couple of times in the past few years.  Then a big game against Willamette at home.

+1 Andy.  Those were some good points about the INT.

That would be good! I hate going up there to play.
That Astroturf is brutal. One year we had so many injuries that our trainers had to borrow a pair of crutches from the L&C training staff.

Let's keep our boys safe this year. No ACL tears, no broken legs. Nothing but a win.

Two words:  THE STREAK

Tuxguy

My 2 cents on the game.

Finally we have a running game! It's fun to watch a balanced team.
Lamson has been a work horse all year. It was nice to see he and Ford
split some time. fresh legs at the end of a game is huge!
164 yrds rushing
130 passing
18 1st downs
8 rushing
8 passing
2 by penalty

The Topper was the Cats had the ball for 11:25 in the 4th Q.

GO CATS!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Of course, one game at a time...for the players and staff.
I, however, have the sportswriter's power of prognostication.

Lewis and Clark – while we 'hope' they continue to compete at a NWC level this is a time to be a slight bit arrogant. Do not play key people and risk the rug burn injuries. Who's key? The offense? The first 22 players?
If something drastic happens then they can play until the game is out of reach, 11 points would be just fine.
"A slight bit arrogant" means I think we could turn it on and off against that home team on their 'one time state of the art cursed carpet.'

Willamette – The whole season in a firecracker.

Puget Sound – Play hard. Do not give up the ball. Drive home with a win.

Western Oregon - Play hard. Do not give up the ball. Do not sink to the level they might choose to play. Does not mean a thing in NCAA Pool A.

Pacific Lutheran - Play hard. Do not give up the ball. Drive home with a win. How they would love to be a spoiler that time of the year and we could not blame them.

That done, prepare for a road game in the playoffs. Look down on your jersey you are wearing, think about those before you, and play like there's no tomorrow because....

Take care of the rest of your schedule (excluding WOU who doesn't technically matter) and PLU can't play spoiler...gotta love that Pool A bid.
