I wasn't throwing anyone under the bus. It's typical at almost every game, everywhere, that there's someone playing from the stands.

And when you come to Moorhead, you will not see anything but class. Trust me. Even during the heated rivalries, students and fans are respectable. Obviously you don't know about Concordia's reputation. Ask any of the Linfield faithful about that.
As the saying goes  -- "perception is reality"

I was impressed how well Concordia traveled for that game. From my vantage point the Concordia fans were more boisterous than the Willamette fans for most of the game, and they nearly outnumbered us as well. Granted it was the Season Opener for Willamette  -  I only hope WU travels as well next September!

Inebriated Willamette students behind the North end zone was a bad idea.  Enough said.

I think the Concordia issue has been dealt with.

No...you're a loyal hack who is jumping on the bandwagon, nothing more. Take it to Salem for the Stagg Bowl and win..... and then you can flap your jaw.

I haven't missed a WU home game since I came here and have made as many road trips as I can.  I listen to every game I can't make on the radio.  Calling me a "hack who is jumping on the bandwagon" is completely, totally out of line.

I'm out for the day.  Reading about the Holocaust is more fun than this.

I look forward to BearCatPress doing a story on these morons and how they make Willamette look like a piece of garbage.

This talk of classless fans from the Linfield guys is laughable.  I'm sure some of you remember the tool with the bullhorn at the last Whitworth game...at the Pine Bowl.  He was wearing an old Letterman jacket and obviously couldn't let go of his old glory days as he was yelling at the Whitworth players and coaches.  While most of it was appropriate (just annoying) he was heard yelling obscenities through his bullhorn that could undoubtadly be heard by anyone within a 200 foot radius (meaning there were plenty of women and children exposed).  Pretty classy if you ask me.  Wondering what the reason behind it was, since WC11's assumption that these types of things stem from an inability to understand how to win could never affect the faithful of the storied Linfield Wildcats.

Congrats to the Bearkitties...I wasn't as impressed with their size, speed, etc. when they played Whitworth so much as how well they executed on both sides of the ball.  VERY disciplined IMO. But if the Linfield fans say, then it must be so.  You should be thankful that St. John's is down this year since they are exactly the type of team it is going to take to slow down this offense.  Very disciplined, hold their gaps, don't make mistakes...and they tend to have pretty good football players.  Bring on the SCIAC sacrificial lamb and whoever else wants a piece, this Willamette team is built to make a run.

To Linfield...I've said this before but the BE days are over, get used to it.  This is going to be a reoccurring theme until the Messiah returns.  If you want signs go pick up some of the Left Behind books, they should tell you what to look for when the time comes.  Your shield punt formation is stupid, not because it doesn't work but because you block it poorly.  Whitworth was close and Willamette finally broke through and did some serious damage.  Fire Joe Smith?  You should fire 86 for making that comment.

Listen that shot at B-Press was not needed.  He's been a GREAT addition to the board, I enjoy his articles (I link to them all the time on my blog), he's been respectful, and he cannot control the actions of his peers at games.  I always enjoy his contributions and will continue to.

When Concordia-Moorhead traveled to Willamette, the Bearcat fans were very inappropriate towards the end of the game.

That doesn't surprise me...they promote bush type tactics over their because they are not used to winning and have become kind of immature and childish...

Really?

Can either of you be more specific?

I was at that game and didn't witness any "innappropriate" behavior

Look, I don't want to pile on and try to take away from Willamette's fine win on Saturday because I have a lot of respect for Coach Speckman and his kids earned everything they achieved last Saturday. But I will be specific:

I film on the sideline and early in the game on Linfield's first TD drive I went into the North end zone to shoot and there were Bearcats students behind me (within 5 feet).  Within 10 seconds I hear someone right behind me say "Should I spit on him?"  I turn around and look at the kid and plainly said "What?"  The kid starts stammering and said "I mean what I said is 'should I spit near you?'" My reply was just "I don't think you want to do either."

Same group was YELLING at our student band saying " you f*&king suck", they told a father of one of the Linfield players just watching the game from the endzone to "get the f&^k out of here old man", etc.  It's one thing to get on the players on the field (that's fine with me) but a number of WU's students were way out of line and it's not the first time I've had an experience where WU students were riding Linfield fans way beyond anything that should be acceptable.

Now let me also say that two of my good friends from high school went to Willamette and I knew many of their teammates and friends and they were great people and I'm sure that the far great majority of students at Willamette are great people but it only takes a few jerkoffs to give a student fan base a bad name.

Willamette is going to be hosting a playoff game(s) and I would hope the administration at WU reins in these types of a**holes that could damper WU's on the field accomplishments.

That's the last I'll address this topic.

Just a quick rebuttal, and I can't speak to the specifics that Wildcat11 mentions, but submit that the WU fans mentioned are not indicitave of all WU fans.

I was in the General admission seats behind the Bearcat bench for literally the entire game, and saw nothing more than the usual enthusiastic "High-Fives" and completely appropriate cheering during the game. It really was a great experience as a Willamette fan.

Louis DeMattei is not doing so bad himself either. I figure that relationship has lasted 38 years. Amy did not graduate from LINFIELD but left for San Jose State a few courses short of a BA.

Linfield has won 5 NWC titles this decade.  Your favorite player, BE, was only on the team for 2 of those.  I don't know why your obsession with this guy continues.  I'm pretty sure that all of us linfield guys know he's not coming back.  But since you seem to bring it up time and again I'm assuming you must still be trying to convince yourself.

As for all this talk of classless fans.... Every team has them!  And the team that loses the game is going to complain about them.  As a Linfield fan I'm sure there were similar, inappropriate comments coming from the sofa section.  Let's just all be thankful that nobody in the NWC is as bad as some of the D-1 and NFL fan bases.  I remember attending a USC game and listening to some A-hole parent teach his 8 year old how to yell obscenities at the opposing team....  That's not what football is about at any level.

(509),

That's fair.  I really was embarrassed about the bullhorn deal.  I hated that happened because the folks up at Whitworth have always been class fans and welcoming.

I'm just happy that Willamette gave you the outlet to lash out at Linfield since your boys couldn't supply you with the ammo this season.  ;)

After all, Bluenote waited for Linfield's Stagg Bowl win before he said anything.  ::)

That's good and all but every season the Cats don't make a deep run into the playoffs half of the posters act like the sky is falling.  Winning NWC Championships is great but it didn't necessarily mean much on the national level in terms of playoff implications (see Whitworth '07).  Now the automatic bid fixes all of that nonsense.  The 2004 championship is NOT the norm for Wildcat football, yet everyone on this board expects it?  The talent on the last few Linfield teams has been nowhere near that of the early to mid 2000's, so why the high expectations every year when you claim to realize that?  You know that Whitworth is going to field a very competitive team each year (since the success during the clark and allan years) and you know that Willamette has the talent and scheme to beat you on any given week...so why has it been such a huge surprise the last three years when someone else has won the championship and Linfield has failed to make the playoffs?

Touche, WC11.  As for the issue of class, I don't care.  I just thought it was funny to see that as the topic of debate.
