That's good and all but every season the Cats don't make a deep run into the playoffs half of the posters act like the sky is falling.  Winning NWC Championships is great but it didn't necessarily mean much on the national level in terms of playoff implications (see Whitworth '07).  Now the automatic bid fixes all of that nonsense.  The 2004 championship is NOT the norm for Wildcat football, yet everyone on this board expects it?  The talent on the last few Linfield teams has been nowhere near that of the early to mid 2000's, so why the high expectations every year when you claim to realize that?  You know that Whitworth is going to field a very competitive team each year (since the success during the clark and allan years) and you know that Willamette has the talent and scheme to beat you on any given week...so why has it been such a huge surprise the last three years when someone else has won the championship and Linfield has failed to make the playoffs?

What can I say, we don't like losing.   I will say this.  The last two years, when we lost to Whitworth I think were a lot harder because the games were so close and it seemed like we gave the games away with turnovers (and you can of course argue the other way that Whitworth took the games away).  This year we just got beat hands down by a better team.   As for the 2004 championship not being the norm for Wildcat football, uhm....aside from Mt. Union it's not really the norm for any team.  But since the goal is to win the championship every year why shouldn't we be upset when we get knocked out of the playoffs with 3 games left in our season?  Weren't you kind of bummed last year when the Rats got left out or this year when they lost to Linfield to ensure they wouldn't make the playoffs?   To quote Forest Gump--  "That's all I have to say about that..."

Go Cats!

Bearcatfan,

Unbelievable  ???
As I said in my post that you read, I was quoting a source!!

And lets just say that he was a Black Man.( I heard him say it).... work for you! If you want to call me out, good luck. I don't come on here and post crap......at least most of the time.  My number of posts says something!!

Facts..... Truth
You Won the game...........enjoy it!

For the sake of clarity..

To me, that post implies that if the referee were not a WU grad the outcome of the game would've been different - is that your position?

Wow, the board is imploding. Are there any grief counselors available for Spirit & Blue?

Maybe you could loan us one from the asylum you are in.

I for one think the refs could have all been Willamette players and the outcome would have been the same :(

No...you're a loyal hack who is jumping on the bandwagon, nothing more. Take it to Salem for the Stagg Bowl and win..... and then you can flap your jaw.

After all, Bluenote waited for Linfield's Stagg Bowl win before he said anything.  ::)

Hey....everybody told me that when I was flapping off, why can't I use it!..... ;D

I think it's a matter of Linfield expecting to be there every year and being disappointed when they're not.  It's kind of like at SJU.  When SJU does not make it, I am surprised because they usually have the talent to at least win the conference even in "down" years.  I don't consider that to be a disrespect of the other conference team or teams who may make it during those years.  It's good when a program and its fan base have those expectations.  Hopefully, Willamette can do some damage in the playoffs this year and get its name out to the rest of the country and garner some of the type of respect that LInfield has.  In '99, it would have been interesting to see how SJU stacked up against you had PLU not won against you first.  The Linfield people have an unusual  and hyper-vigilant sort of support and respect for their program that kind of reminds me of the Packer-backers in WI.   They could have four wins and they'd complain and analyze to death but they'd still fill up the stands.  Unfortunately, I don't think that even I'd have that kind of tolerance or fortitude.  I like to give their banter back to them, too, and I know where it comes from.   While I've been an SJU fan subjected to it a few times and while SJU does not play them every year, it seems to me that their fervor is out of pride for their program rather than an insult to other teams.  SJU gets pretty much the same arguments.

Good post chewey....my sentiments exactly.....Keep up the good work!

The refs had zero impact on the game.  I though the facemask flag was bunk but after watching the clip it was a pretty good tug on the mask by the linebacker that was mopping up the sack.  That was another killer in that first quarter.

Willamette's offensive line should be commended for keeping a pretty good pressure group in check for the day.  The guard-center-guard combo was able to keep the pocket clean for Leslie to step up in while the edges were folding.  The ability to step up in the pocket was huge for Willamette's offense in the 2nd half and ultimately led to our demise.

hey guys,
the bearkittie game was decided between the lines by the players on the field.  Not the officials.

This is Streak week

lets get er done

D O.C.

After two Willamette exchanges of the ball down in LaVerne it was the offensive line that made me shake my head with a 'Whew!'
But, see, all season long we never knew what kind of a team we had, and I'm not sure we still do.

I was wondering ...if Willamette wins out, what are the chances they will be the #1 seed in the West? Whitewater now has a loss and no one else from the West is ahead of Willamette in the polls. If they do win out... I would think they would get the #1 Seed.

I would think so.  I would think they'd want to keep UWWW in the west this year but who knows.  If they are not in the west, it's a no-brainer to me.  MIAC champ is going to have 2 losses.  The IIAC champ is going to have probably 2 losses.  I'll have to look, but I think UW-Point has 1 loss already as does UWWW.  If Willamette wins out, they're #1.

The first set of regional rankings should be out late on Wednesday. Those will go a long ways towards answering your question. I'm very curious how Willamette will be ranked as well.  Hosting beyond the first round or two would be huge for the Bearcats.

Oxy and Monmouth are also undefeated West region teams, but neither is likely to be ranked ahead of Willamette. Oxy at Cal Lutheran is a big game this week.

Give a listen to the Podcast if you have time.

Wildcat 11,

Excellent observation.     Even though Leslie only completed six passes, they were deadly ones.     We were out-coached and out-played.

As I said 10 days ago the game would be decided on what went on upstairs - in the press box.  Smith shouldn't go but Nagel needs to be replaced - playcalling terrible, terrible, terrible.  Does Linfield have enough inside to go to Puget Sound and redeem themselves or will they toss it in.

Bballdave,

Right on the mark!

Also, when we were down 45-28 late in the game, why did we call two inside running plays on 1st and 2nd downs?     Had our coaches given up?     They didn't work and it chewed up way too much precious time.

Yes, LC is resilient; we will win at least two more games this year.    This is a young group of talented players.

Yes, time to win at least two more games.    Wildcats CAN do it!
