I know what we like to give River a hard time, but I do hope his Bearcats make a good showing against UMHB in a couple of weeks. River, I'm a little worried for your boys. UMHB has almost everyone back and Speck & Co. have some holes to fill, I'm not real confident it's going to be the close game it was last year but I hope I'm wrong. It would be great for the conference if a second team could beat UMHB. They are tough and will be again this year.

K-Mack, thanks for the props on the streak. This website has always ranked the NWC as one of the top conferences, and before we joined D-III there was someone in the NW playing for the NAIA championship just about every season. It has been anything but easy the last half a century, and it is a tribute to an inordinate number of people. Here's to #50!!!!
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Foss, .....River brought it up on an other board and I couldn't help myself!!!! :D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Tux, no biggie. My post wasn't meant to ask you to "play nice" with River, it was just coincidence that your post was the one before mine. Hope you enjoy the upcoming season. By the way, was there ever a "formal investigation" as to whether River and Salemcat are the same guy? If so, he fooled me because their writing patterns seem to be quite different. If not, whatever happened to Salemcat? That guy could be entertaining and always seemed to have just chugged a quadruple mocha!

Foss, I believe salemcat is coaching the B-cats with his dad! If so, probably no time for us!

Tux, thanks for the info. It will be interesting to see if he can stay away from this board if the Bearcats somehow beat Mary Hardin-Baylor or if his emotions will get the better of him!

Salemcat (aka Lil Spec) did have a former life on here as 'brig' while he was still on the roster at WU (2003). It has been suggested that a few other players had access to the handle and posted with it as well.

River is a different poster. He is a WU alum living in Hawaii. #11 has called him out for being passive-aggressive in the past.

Foss

There you go - Brig! Not River. Yah, I remember Brig. Thanks for the clarification, D.

As I review GHC's predictions, all I could think about was that old SNL skit with the Chicago SuperFans. Da Bearz!!

The smallest point spread is 31, GHC? Are you for real? I'm going to predict that someone will stay within 30 of the 'Cats during the reg. season. What are you willing to put on it, Salty?

D-Train,

I couldn't support your field position more. Although he may be a lil' bitter after your response, GHC may have gotten a bit carried away with the "num lock" on the ol' keyboard when he predicted the big daddy 31 point spread.

As history repeats itself, it's inevitable that within the next 3-5 years we'll most likely see a season from the roaring kittens reminiscent of '96 when Hewey Lewey & Clark Kent almost neutered the kitten's winning season streak with a game down to the litter box wire.

Next season will definately be the beginning of that trend, and although the Mighty Catz may pull off another healthy litter of 9 wins, getting within 31 points of their sharp claws is about as sure to happen as the sun is to rise tomorrow morning.

Get real.

d-train

Okay, Fattie...thanks for the support (I guess). Welcome aboard.

All the ol' timers on here will tell you that GHC tends to get a little carried away, but he means well. I agree that Linfield is the cream of the NWC crop right now. But they aren't 30 points better than everyone on their schedule, and they'll be right back in the peloton in 2006. Heck, maybe it will even be this year. You want to talk about history repeating itself...check out how PLU has done historically the years after Linfield played for a title (runner-up in '83 & '85, champs in '87 & '93).

Fattie,

What's your story? Who's your team? That quote in your sign-off sounds familiar. Is it from a movie or show?

Love the Lil' Sis reference. Like those stupid whistle tips (which you can't even really see) are only for decoration and not noise. And she was convinced that the explanation made perfect sense. Come on...

wildcat11

Fatty,

How bold of you to say that Linfield will come back to the pack in the next 3-5 years......all things have their runs and cycles but Linfield has won 5 straight NWC titles and should be looking at number six this season.  No other NWC team has this kind of hold of the conference.  I'm sure that every NWC team would like this type of run.

I know you are waiting for Linfield to come "down" a few pegs but you'll have to wait throught at least another long year of high powered Linfield football.

wildcat82

Lets say the the Cats blow Stevens Point away by 30, the Bearcats beat UMHB.  Then Willamette only loose to Linfield and Whitworth.  Whitworth looses to PLU and Linfield, PLU looses to Linfield and Willamette and the Cats loose to no one.  With the expanded playoff field, do you think it possible that three teams from the NWC make it to the playoffs?

WOUalum's comments on another board needed to be tested.  I quote from his post:"1177.1.1. Yeah, it will ... by WOUalum, 8/26/05 13:29 ET
Re: Texas ... by WOUalum, 8/26/05
... but I watched the replay three times and his knee was down on the 1-yard line.
Still think Linfield was the better team and would've won even if the right call would've been made.

How to rile up the Wildcat crowd 101:

1. Question "the streak."

2. Talk about the greatness of the woman kicker at Willamette.

3. Talk about how awesome getting rings are for conference titles.

4. Actually think that someone from a different NWC team could start for Linfield or even make all-conference. Don't you know that all 24 guys on the all-conference team should be from Linfield?"

I was  :o'ed.  WOUalum was right.   :D

wildcat11

River,

Anybody that is a fan of a school that takes a loss in the first round of the playoffs to a SCIAC school gives up all rights to smack talk anybody for at least one year......and that year punishment for every Willamette fan isn't up yet.

Wildcat82........I seem to remember that this is the last season that the NWC will be in pool B.   While there is no stated policy against three teams from one conference gaining Pool B bids, I'm figuring that the NCAA selection committee wouldn't do that....unless of course, Pool B is terribly weak outside of the NWC again.

Pat Coleman probably has something on this that I don't......
