Sure these guys may be bigger, faster, taller, on paper but we need an upset to sooth our egos so let’s go get ‘em. We’re certainly not scared and we have experienced losing.

DOC,

What do scores from the 70's and 80's have to do with the discussion? I'm talking about the D2 WWU's and CWU's of the 00's. The ones that competed in the North Central Conference the last two years against the likes of North Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha. The CWU team that won two D2 playoff games last year, and whose only loss this year was by three points in Missoula.

You'll get the Wolves in years you're really up and they are down (circa '04 and '05), but it'll be a significant uphill battle any other year.

Maybe it was all an elaborate ploy to point out that we beat Redlands.... :)

I think it would definitely be helpful for the Wildcats if CLU beats Redlands.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but then all three schools would have two losses.  I can't help but think that CLU's losses to Oxy and Willamette and Linfield's losses to HSU and Willamette would look better than Redlands' losses to CLU and Oxy.
The problem is not really Linfield's losses, it's their wins.  Let's say they win this week and next---they finish 7-2 but only 5 of those wins are against D3 teams.  So the committee see them as a 5-2 team whereas Redlands, should they have a second loss would be a 7-2 team because all of their opponents are in the D3.  It doesn't totally exclude Linfield but it certainly would not look good...

I don't think Linfield has a shot for the reasons above and they really have no signature wins(which I know aren't supposed to count).  I suppose beating D2 WOU would raise some eyebrows but we all know that those games aren't supposed to count in the playoff picture...but don't forget, [sarcasm] if Maynard is on the committee again this year then Linfield really has no shot. [/sarcasm]

By the way...Russ...I had to hike up my jeans so I could wade through the manure contained in your "cover the tracks" follow up...priceless.

Willamette could put a nice run together. The Bearcats' seeding will be a huge factor. The Fly with a decent passing attack, defense, and special teams will be a lot for an opposing team to prepare for in a week. Mix in a long trip to Oregon (maybe some rain) and that could make a big difference. So don't look too far ahead and blow an easy one, eh?

coco

Any team that hasn't seen the Fly before will have a tough time with it. Even having game film, it will be hard to prepare for it in a week, as d-train says.

I think Speck will have the team ready for UPS and Menlo - and he's shown his ability to prepare the team in a week's time for their next opponent throughout the season.

Playing football at McCullough in mid-late November and possibly into mid-December is a big incentive for this team, I'm sure - and add in the possibility of playing in Salem, VA on December 20th? HUGE!

No, no, no, no, NO!!!  We're not even close to being there yet.  Not only have we not beaten UPS since 2005, but last year they beat us when we were coming off a bye after beating Linfield.  Sound familiar?  I also feel obligated to mention that we haven't won a playoff game since 1997.  So why don't we keep letting our team's play on the field speak for itself.  It's worked so far!

Conclusion: let's not put our cart before the horse, especially when the horse hasn't even left the barn.

It should be a real good game Saturday. The Linfield Cats will be ready. I don't think I need to say how stupid your comments were. I am sure you are feeling it about know. Hope you have a good night sleep. Can't wait for the game and I will see all of you Tailgaters at about 9:00 am. Wife and I will be coming in the sleep mobile. You know what thats like Gig.

Last week the question was asked as to what has happened to PLU.  I think the Linfield/WOU dynamic speaks to this same question.  I have stated before (last year I think).  It is my opinion that part of the "problem" at PLU is that some of the players who used to opt for PLU are now going to CWU and WWU.  It has taken longer for this to happen in Oregon because Linfield has been a winner for so long and WOU was not as competitive (as CWU and maybe WWU) prior to the shift from NAIA to D2/D3.

This is just a theory from an ex player who is NOT close to the current team and has had little contact with PLU for a couple of decades.

What, you think I've somehow Jinxed the Bearcats by posting on the d3boards.com forums? I doubt it. Time will tell, though - and I'll gladly take any blame if they happen to not make the playoffs and play into December.

I've always been an optimist, no point in stopping now!

And in previous years they've  won three-straight coming out of the BYE week.  From what I've seen from the team this season, I'm inclined to think that scenario is more probable.

One thing that's unquestionable - Willamette has their fate in their own hands. I'm pretty sure the team understands that and realizes the implications.

But I'm just an idle spectator...
