I noticed Juan Alvarado is from Franklin of Stockton. Franklin had some incredible teams. But last year it was discovered that the coach had recruited and paid for kids to come from Samoa to play at Franklin. The school received some severe sanctions. At first they were not going to be allowed to even field a team this year, but that was rescinded. Interestingly, a number of the coaches and players wound up at a Christian school in town and they now are being investigated. I'll bet Juan is glad to away from that mess and doing well with the Bearcats.

That kid is a 6'2" 375 lb defensive lineman!?!? I think he is the biggest collegiate D-lineman I have ever seen AND he's only a freshman. Big Albert Haynesworth, interior D-lineman of the Tennessee Titans, is only listed at 320 lbs. Did they convert him from O-line (he'd still be huge for a college O-lineman)? Could he have possibly eaten some of those kids who disappeared from Franklin High down in Cali?
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

How about a injury report......

I don't typically get my injury report from Speckman until Monday morning, but offhand I can't think of anyone who was seriously hurt.  A couple of the offensive linemen looked a little banged up, but they were walking around fine on the sidelines at the end of the game.

What a tremendous game!  Great crowd, fantastic weather, and two very good football teams.  Oxy never quit.  Unfortunately, the refs didn't either.  If anyone is able to figure out what happened during the last 43.9 seconds, let me know.

While it was nerve-wracking to see Oxy move the ball so well early on, as long as our defense isn't giving up big plays (20+ yards), I feel pretty comfortable.  The longer you make an offense drive, the greater chance there is for mistakes.  With the way our offense has been playing, we just need one stop to do some major damage.  We got three in the second quarter, and we blew the game open.

It was great to meet Tuxguy, Bluenote, and Foss.  I know it was tough for you guys to cheer on the Bearcats.  To come out and root for the NWC was classy, and I hope we can welcome some more Wildcats to McCulloch this Saturday for Whitewater.  I'm not very optimistic about student turnout (which was fantastic yesterday) since most of the campus is going to be home for Thanksgiving, so we'll need all the help we can get.  I, of course, will be coming back early. :)

Oh, and sorry guys, Schoettgen's here to stay! ;)

My eyes did this :o when I saw that in the media guide before the Concordia game.

That an offensive alignment?  I know Speckman's an innovator but how can Germany influence the game? How far back DOES the quarterback stand to receive the snap?

OK...back to business......I have an inside source from the MIAC who says that Whitewater is not as good as normal. They mainly run and don't pass that well. Si I'm predicting that Willamette will win.

Is that if it is blocked or not?

So, where do they get the refs for playoff games?  Someone at the game told me that the visitors' conference gets to send the refs, because we supply the field.  That doesn't sound right?!  I'm sure one of you knows the answer to this.

I don't know the official answer but during the broadcast on Saturday your announcers repeatedly mentioned that the refs were NWC refs but that none of them had worked a Willamette or Occidental game this year.  Given the NCAA's propensity for saving money I doubt they are shipping in refs from very far away.

Linfield has experience in crowd control.  Crowds at football games are sort of new to WU! ;)  I think the thunderstix are given to people in the Bearcat Club -- not sure.  So, they're already in the game!

Nope -  I dunno where they come from, but I do know they're not given out in the Bearcat Club. After watching the CCTV-Salem Replay tonight on Comcast, it looked like it was all students that had the Thunderstix. Maybe they have them for sale at the Willamette Store on campus? There are few (if any) students who are Bearcat Club members.

I believe that in general refs are selected from outside either team's conference.  But, given your West Coast 'island' status and the cheapness of the NCAA, the announcers may have been correct.

Makes sense, I would expect to see refs from the SCIAC for the WU-UWWW matchup then.

Mr. Ypsi:  Seems like you had a team in the playoffs you support.  How'd they do?

Tuxguy

Pat,

Not sure if anyone mentioned that your alma mater Catholic beat Johns Hopkins to move to the next round of the playoffs. First winning season sense 2000.
Congrats!

Just wish I was going to watch a team in Purple this weekend  :o........with a Wildcat
on the helmet  ;D ;D

Tuxguy out!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Bluenote, the Warhawks are not the same team that went to the Stagg the past 3 seasons and definitely not not same team that won it last season.  They lost 24 senior, 17 of them starters.  It's been a rebuilding process this year (something like 8 seniors on the 100 man roster).  In all fairness, it's a credit to those 8 seniors and returning players, new freshman and coaching staff for getting back in this position, defending their title.  Your MIAC source is absolutely right about the Warhawks not being as good as normal.  They will probably be a real pushover for anyone at this level.  I would say it's proper for WU fans, players, coaches and NWC bandwagon member to look ahead to the next round beginning now - Wartburg or Monmounth are going to provide a much more challenging opponent.  As a matter of fact, when it's all said and done, at this time next week, you"ll think WU just played in a bye week game.  As a Warhawk fan, I'm really looking forward to next season when I think we'll have a pretty nice team to cheer for.   ;)

BTW, I think I know the identiy of your source...and believe me he's not at all reliable!!  :-\
