Been there and done that !!!
UWW comes to town with 63 players that are sporting National Championship Rings from beating the best of the best last year. They are battlefield tested via the biggest stage that there is in DIII. Yea I know that was then etc  etc.  I saw them up close and personal at the Catdome in 05.  They bring game, confidence, outstanding coaching, and experience.  No pucker factor here boys.

They are a SALTY crew.

Thats all--Bling Bling !! Peace Out

Very nicely said, GHC!   :)  +karma

My understanding is that they can only dress 52 . . . I know that at least 53 can travel (with an alternate), but I don't know that they can officially travel 63 unless the number changes at round 2?

Wildcat'64

Question for the Bearcat faithful...now you've played the Wildcats and the Tigers in the same season and won both.....Which was the tougher team to face the Cats or the Tigers?

You are right, 53 is the NCAA mandated roster number.  Maybe it was just a typo.  Besides, none will be sporting their rings. Coach gave them all strict instructions to put the rings away at the beginning of the season.  ;D

And Foss, that was the longest 2 minutes at the end of the game that I've ever been to.  Especially the last 43.9 seconds!  Did anyone ever figure that out? If so, please explain.

There's nothing to explain. After Oxy scored to make it 49-33, the Tigers kept trying to win the game. With 44 seconds to go Oxy tried an onside kick from the 30 but was penalized for offside. They lined up again at the 25, but Oxy was called for delay of game. They lined up again at the 20 and Oxy recovered the onside kick. Oxy tried to move the ball downfield and along the way got called twice for false starts. The clock finally ran out. Game over.

Oxy also a.) touched the ball before it went 10 yards, and b.) ran in front of the ball as it rolled, shielding it from the Willamette hands team.  As I understand the rules, neither of those things are allowed.  I had an interesting "off the record" conversation with Speckman today.

bp............not true.  Yes, the kicking team cannot touch the ball before it travels ten yards.  However, the kicking team can run in front of the ball as long as they don't touch it in the first ten yards or go off sides.

Interesting to see many on this board talking about a trip to Texas. Seems a bit premature to me. Although comparing scores of common opponents is a frivolous exercise., comparing entire season statistics may or may not be. That being said, here is an analysis of the upcoming game. I don't know if there is anyone who has seen both of these teams play in person, so obviously this analysis is statistical and subjective . Keep in mind I am a UWW backer and don't claim to be neutral.

CONFERENCE NATIONAL RANK  WIAC    1ST
                   NWC      7th
ADVANTAGE: EVEN

Comment: Obviously this is highly subjective. The rankings are from early in the season from D3 Football.com.  This is not a huge consideration, but it does show that there is probably not a huge difference in level of play between the two conferences. Therefore, the following statistics could provide a glimpse of relatives advantages of each team.

MOST EXPLOSIVE  PLAYER: Merben Woo, Willamette.
From everything I've read, he is the real deal and sounds like he will be the most explosive player on the field.

ADVANTAGE: WILLAMETTE

MOST EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE: From what I've read, Willamette is a team that makes a living off big plays. They have gone 11-0 with this formula.  That qualifies as explosive to me. UW_W makes a living "pounding the rock". Their plan will be  to grind it out and keep the ball out of Willamette's hands.

ADVANTAGE: WILLAMETTE

RUSHING OFFENSE: Willamette averages 6.1 yards per rush and 256.3 yards per game and UWW averages 5.0- yards per rush and 221.3 yards per game.

NO ADVANTAGE

PASSING OFFENSE:Willamette averages 9.6 yards per pass and 153.5 yards per pass. UWW averages 7.8 yards per pass and 190.9 yards per game.

NO ADV ANTAGE

RUSHING DEFENSE: Willamette allows 3.3 yards per rush and 134.7 yards per game. UWW allows 2.5 yards per rush and 71.0 yards per game.

ADVANTAGE: UWW

PASSING DEFENSE:  Willamette allows 6.0 yards per pass and 188.7 yards per game. They have 24 sacks and 13 interceptions. UWW allows 4.9 yards per pass and 173.2 per game. They have 26 sacks and 16 interceptions.

NO ADVANTAGE

TURNOVER RATIO: Willamette is +16. UWW is +9.  This appears to be a huge advantage for each team over the course of the season. I don't know how you measure who will get the edge here. Whoever does, will likely win.

NO ADVANTAGE

SPECIAL TEAMS: Punting games and return games are relatively even. However, UWW has first team all American kicker.

ADVANTAGE: UWW

ANALYSIS: It appears that Willamette has made a living off of big plays and turnovers. If they get enough of those, they will likely win. However, that is a really big if against a team that rarely needs to take chances. UWW will pound the rock again and again and mix in high percentage passes. If Willamette cannot stop the run, they are in huge trouble. Regarding big plays, UWW has a fast, athletic defense that allows only 10.4 ppg. (They are the #2 ranked scoring defense in the nation).  As an example, Puget Sound rushed for 221 yards against Willamette and 21 yards in 30 attempts against UWW. The only prediction on this post is that the Willamette team has not seen anything like this UWW team. UWW has not seen this unorthodox offense before, but they probably have faced a similar level of athlete (Woo could be an exception).

I have to think that is a copyrighted moniker for LINFIELD though. Suggest hawkhead or hawkwater or hawkshop.   :D

In the NWC, maybe.  But MUC is also purple, and at least one poster makes ALL his posts in purple (annoying! ;)).

In fact, I can't remember off the top of my head the last team in the Stagg Bowl that did NOT wear purple. :o

No offense to you 413 but in my opinion 53 is too many.  Maybe cut the roster sizes back, save a little dough, and quit screwing the West coast teams on the first round match ups.
