Hey BoBo.......I don't care about Willamette but I care less about you guys, but if you guys are as good as you say you are it will be interesting. I thought you guys were pretty good in 2005 at the CatDome but if we'd have had a running back that could get 3-4 yards we would have been back at the Stagg that year.

Another coulda, woulda, shoulda...  ;)  if it were me, I would've put closure on that 05 game a long time ago...it's been over for 3 years now...well, come to think of it, it did take me a while to get over that Packer loss to Denver in the Super Bowl!   :-\

...Bluenote, btw, don't think for a minute the UWW team or fans are looking to gain support from anyone in the NW - the fact that nobody in the NW (or far west for that matter) cares a rats a$$ for UWW will just make it that much sweeter if the 'hawks get out of Dodge (Salem) with a win and a chance to play another day.

...as I mentioned a day or two ago, I hope WU lives up to the hype, too...they sound like they enjoy their unique style of play on offense, but I assume they are rather vanilla on defense - maybe even a little suspect against a good and efficient offensive team - doesn't seem like they've played one yet this year...any thoughts?  This 24/7 talk about the offense makes me wonder!!  ;)

Willamette beat a good Concordia-Moorhead team 35-21 that beat St John's 9-6.

Tuxguy, just a random thought, but with what we now know about the Johnnies (UWW 37 Johns 7), would that still be something to brag about? Me thinks not.  ;)  In fact, I would dig a deep hole, place it inside and bury it for fear it might come back and haunt me later!!   :-X

BoBo,

See post above for answer to your question.
Remember I don't really care who wins. (not my alma mater).
Just having fun seeing what I can stir up.
Looks like it's working.  ;) ;)

And please, '05 is done, over, and in the past.
Was just a great game against you guys is why I brought it up, that's all.

GO CATS!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

My feeling, too, Tux. Anyone who saw that game has to remember it, with the lead changes and heart-stopping plays. That's why I've enjoyed following Whitewater ever since.

Their fans were nice, too. Someone on the WIAC board said he hoped if people were wavering about coming out for the trip that he encouraged them to go, and I hope a lot of them do show up for the game.

The Champion gets the auto bid, that was Stevens Point, you had to get a well deserved pool C bid.

Actually, in the case of a Co-Championship, the NCAA defers to conference rules to determine who gets the pool A bid. WIAC rules state that the winner of the head to head game gets the pool A bid. Stevens Point DID earn the pool A bid. But UW-W were Co-Champions nonetheless.

UWW might have the fastest, hardest hitting defense in the country, including Mount Union.

....I doubt it..... :-*

I would expect you to doubt it, Blue. Until Saturday night!

bobo....take a look. On that WIAC sight it lists the co-champ with a 10-1 record and on the d3football brackets it has them at 9-1.   ???
I would guess that means that they are 10-1 now and finished the season at 9-1?

BoBo

The record was never an issue; it's whether or not SP and UWW were co-champs or just Point as champions...it clearly shows the * as co-champions.

Correct, 10-1 now after beating the Johnnies last weekend but ended the season 9-1, the same record as UWSTP.
Remember, this is a team whose record added up to 15 the last three years so we like to keep a running total.   ;) :D ;D

Well, you boys have been busy while I was sleeping.  Where do I start?  Forgive me because I am repeating myself but I remember back in 05 when the upstart Hawks started making noise on the national stage and every week a new opponent would come on the board and tell us posters that each week would end our season and we all know how that turned out.  Several on this board included.  I remember how that felt as a poster always having to defend my team and fighting on their behalf for respect so I get how the Bearcat fans must be feeling right now.  Turns out I didn't need to because  the Warhawks earned it on the field for themselves and have earned many fans around the country in the process, many on this board.  Those of us who had the priviledge of watching the 05 game at the Catdome experienced one of the greatest games ever played, IMHO, and a mutual respect was earned by both programs.  No, BoBo, that game never should see closure.  It deserves to be remembered for decades!  The Cat fans, players and Oregonians were so welcoming and generous and it remains one of the best football experiences I have ever had! My point is that it is alway smart to tread lightly on the bulletin board material.  The Hawks have, "closet fans," on here, I guarantee it.  You guys even have Tuxguy calling us cheeseheads and denying that the Hawks are the WIAC Champions, (albiet, CO-Champions.)  That takes some feather ruffling!   ;)  UWSTP was the AQ for the purpose of tie breaking and the play-offs but the two teams are both 08 WIAC Co-Champions ending their season with both having a 9-1 record.
This will be a very hard fought game and I highly doubt that anyone runs away with it.  It appears that this will be the toughest offense that the Hawks have come up against this year and I believe that this will be the toughest defense that the Bearcats will see.  The Hawks are 7th in the country in Total Defense and the Bearcats are 99th. A stat that suprised me when I looked it up was the the Hawks are 29th in Total offense and the Bearcats are 37th.  But as has already been established, the Bearcats only need a few plays with big yardage to dispatch their opponent.  Whatever is written on blogs, I assure you that the Warhawks and their staff have great respect for what the Bearcats have accomplished in a very tough league and are working hard to prepare for a battle.

I remember that show, I was/am a big JS fan.

The "I" word is one we never use in our house while our son is playing.  Been there, done that once and it isn't fun seeing your kid lying still on the ground.

I hope it is a hard hitting game and everyone walks away with just bumps and bruises.  good luck to both teams, just a wee bit more to WU. ;)

Here here on the injury sentiment. No one wants any of the kids to get hurt. But, I have to tell it like it is snoop. First, you don't have to worry about it being a hard hitting game. UWW knows no other way to play. Second, "just a wee bit more" luck won't do WU much good. They'll need a ton of it to hang with UWW.

"If his helmet doesn't come off his head does. It was beautiful." Deacon Jones/Ram's Defensive lineman

Only coaches, parents, and fans are concerned/worried about injuries. When a player knocks another player out of the game from a clean hit it's part of the game. I've seen my son removed from the game due to injury and I have seen him remove defensive linemen from the game for the same reason. That's the risk. It's what they do. We always hope for an injury free game, but as Coach Lombardi said, "Gentlemen, this is football."

I actually think it would be kind of cool to have my smack on the WU bulletin board!

OK, here's my gig:

1. I respect ALL D3 football players and programs. I think it is football in the purest sense. The work these people put in is enormous and deserve respect, whether the team wins or loses.
2. I think forum posters take ourselves waaaay to seriously. The game is about the kids. Not us. When I talk smack, I am messing around trying to invoke a good natured rivalry. Laughing is good for you!
3. NONE of us know what is going to happen on Saturday. That is the great thing about sports. It's just fun acting like I do. But you don't know what's going to happen either, so we should all lighten up a bit. Afterall, who has seen BOTH WU and UWW play in person this year? That's what I thought.
4. UWW will win soundly on Saturday and I think deep inside, WU backers know it!  ;D

I agree, the smack should be aimed at the posters, friendly of course, not at the players. These young men have put in hours of hard work in the classroom and on the field. They're playing because they love the game. Win, lose, or draw (see Philly) they deserve our respect for playing the game.  I gave you +1 karma. ;D
