Pound the Rock. Boring. Midwest boring. Effective most of the time. Boring. DEFENSE. Exciting.

UWWW ...passed and ran effectively. Plus their defense was very quick and good. WE should get the game tape and learn how to stop the Fly. I guess it's the personel that does it since we've seen it for 15 years but still can't stop it. Whitewater had 1 week to prepare and still did enough to stop it.

Interestingly, Whitewater is extremely young with only 8 seniors, not all of them are even in the 2 deep...they will be a major roadblock for any potential west region team next season...I would imagine they are very happy to have survived today and live to play another day...

Tux and I noticed that on the program. I think they only started like 5 seniors. Whitewater will be a contender for the next few years as they have been the last 4 years. Their coaching staff must be doing something right. They are getting good players in their program.

Good fans, too.  Met Tuxguy and Bluenote from Linfield, it was great to talk D3 football with them.  They were going to catch the big Oregon / Oregon State game, so i don't expect to see a post from them for a bit.

KitchenSink...it was great to meet you too. Your team played a very good game for being on the road. Good luck next week vs. Wartburg!

Congrats to Willamette for making it to the 2nd round. Now you realize how tough it is to advance like we did in 2004 and PLU did in 1999.

O.K.
First, Great job WC11, Mrs. Tuxguy had to stay home , but she had you to keep her in the game.

This is my take on todays game... ( just some short tid bit observations)
from a Linfield guy who really didn't care who won.  I just wanted to watch a good game and that happened today on a beautiful Oregon late Nov. day.

The game started out like last week against Oxy with the Bearcats looking a little out of sink. Leslie seems a little off to start games, but gets better as the game goes on.

The Warhawks scored on 3 of the first 4 times they had the ball.  Power runs with some passes to mix things up. I thought they came out with a good game plan, And right off had the Bearcats on the back of there heals. The bearcats went for it on 4th down 2 or 3 times inside the 30 and came up empty, just one FG at the end of the first half could have made a big difference, it turns out.

Coach Speckman as always made great adjustments and in the 3rd Q. the other Cats started to make a game of it.

Before the game I remember a lot of talk about size, if you look at the program both are big, it's just UW-W seems to use it to more of their advantage. Seemed to be a lot of guys walking off the field gimpy. For both sides. It was a hard hitting game thats for sure.

5 or 8 Sr.'s on this team? Oh my, I'm impressed!

Kitchensink,
great to meet you, thanks for coming over and talking to blue and I. I'm sure you had a good trip, at least you went home with a smile on your face after that win.

I've got to give the Bearcats credit, they never gave up. Up until the last drive by the Hawks they were in it.
And to the Warhawks Coach,  my Top Hat comes off to you for the Show of class at the end, taking a knee with 20 seconds or so showed why you guys are the class of the WIAC.

More later, just wanted to put in some observations from an outsider so speak

Nice run Bearcats, and good luck to the Warhawks..

blue and I are going to miss having a game in Salem next week, so I guess I'll have to do some Xmass shopping.......................NOT!! ;D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

bbaddict,

He means one good season and done.  Sorry Willamette didn't have the goods to move on but at least they have one playoff victory this decade.  Congrats, great season for Willamette.

Pat,
You'll love this,

After the Willamette vs. UW-W game, blue and I are walking down the steps, less then a minute is on the clock. We stop on the steps leading down from the stadium to watch the few seconds tick off the clock. We meet a young man sitting on the steps going up the stands and mention his sweatshirt,( looked like a WOU sweatshirt, but thankfully it wasn't) he pops off, so.... whats your online names? ??? ???
blue and I look at each other ??? ???
We had on Linfield gear only, sorry pat no D3 stuff. We tell him and he says he's a long time lurker, we told him to sign up and post. Blew me away!
I thought I had a neon sign on my forehead. :o
Guess blue and I look like D3 posters or something. ;) ;)

Just goes to show you, D3.com is everywhere!!

Thanks Pat!

wildcat11, I think we all know what he meant -- he says what he means & he means what he says!!  You don't need to try & gloss it over for him.

The decade isn't over and the team isn't finished, just for this season, which was a pretty d*%* good one!  We're losing some seniors, but 1/2 of the playoff roster for WU was made up of freshmen & sophomores --- and, we're not losing the coaches!   So, I've heard that 3rd time's a charm -- next year, WU v. Linfield -- we win again.

You are correct  your boys are one and they are done..  Didn't win the second game -- It is a common phrase used on this board over the years.

Flush it

Why do I need to "move on"?  You haven't!  And your boys were done weeks ago!  Phone that in!

Wanted to congratulate the Bearcats and their staff on their terrific season and great game yesterday against the Hawks.  They showed that they are the real deal and their refusal to roll over and never give up attitude earned much respect from this Warhawks fan.  The final buzzer was a very welcomed sound.  I was surprised that the Bearcats seemed to match the Warhawk's physical style as well as they did and hope that both teams didn't come out of the game too banged up.  Great job and good luck next season to all!

Yeah, I cringed everytime a body was lying on the field and wondered "who"?  Don't like to see injuries on any one's team!  It was a very physical game, but I thought the Warhawks outsized the Bearcats.   Hope your team does well in representing the West.  Really thought we'd pull that one out!!

Congrats WU on a fine season!

Yesterday's game was a good one.     My observations:

Willamette:
 *   They came out flat in the first half.    Falling behind 21-0 to a very good football team is hard to overcome.    (That is what happened to Linfield against WU.)

 *   But, WU did come back strong.    Had a great 2nd half.

 *  WU defense was no match for WWW's strong offense.    (Linfield's strong 2nd and 3rd quarter against WU should have been a clue.)

Whitewater:
 *   Their early season romp over UPS told us how good they are.

 *   Much better passing than I expected.    That was the difference in the game.     WU never could stop the very strong WWW offense.

 *  Defense was awesome in the first half.

Since 2004, the NWC best has not beat the best from another West Region conference.    WWW should be the goal that the best NWC teams need to attain.

GO WILDCATS! GO!    Next year.
GO CATS! GO!
