It's going to be a great season for the NWC next year.  I really believe that we have a couple of legit contenders that could reach the other Salem next season but it's not going to be easy for any of them to reach the NWC crown.

D O.C.

<sour grapes>...and we're sitting in that unenviable position -again- of playing two 'not in d3 west region' games which we pretty much have to win handily, as well as win the NWC outright. Two of the GREAT NWC teams getting in the playoffs (WELL, WE CAN ALWAYS HAVE THEM PLAY EACH OTHER - again - IN THE FIRST ROUND) would appear slim -again. <sour grapes>

Have A Nice Day.

D O.C., yes 2009 is going to look like 2008 in terms of our schedule but all that will change starting in 2010.

In the most recent "Carney's Corner" the article that Linfield AD Scott Carnahan typically sends out during the year he addresses Linfield's football schedule and developments for 2010-2011.  Carney talks about how they've contacted the SCIAC over and over again with no takers but we finally have two starting in 2010.

"Since the fall began, both Joseph Smith and I have called every Division III football playing institution in the SCIAC. We have finally been able to make some headway and have scheduled California Lutheran and La Verne for the 2010 and 2011 football seasons. Obviously, this is going to create a big increase in our budget, but we all feel it is in the best interest of our student-athletes and institution to move in this direction."

This is really great news for the 'Cats and it's great to see that we will have at least 8 DIII games starting 2010.  I suspect that SOU will be the non-DIII team we keep playing and if Pacific does come back we can dump the Raiders or go to a 10 game schedule and keep SOU.

Wow, that's great news for the 'Cats. In some ways the auto-bid made this less of a priority. Then again, Linfield's recent schedules offered very little chance for a Pool C bid compared to their NWC peers.

Thanks for the reference to Carney's Corner.

When will Pacific bring back football?  That has been a question in the background for about 3 years now.

Great news for Linfield, but does this mean the SCIAC's afraid to play Willamette now . . . :)

I really hope Pacific gets their wheels turning.  I'd love to have another game so close to home.

As Willamette is the only NWC school to lose a playoff game to the SCIAC, I doubt they will be too afraid to play the Bearcats.

I emailed the SID for Pacific a few weeks ago but did not receive a response... :(

Question:

Great news about the games with the SCIAC, does that mean that we will drop WOU or SOU or both?

And if so, that still leaves us with 9 games.  ???

Pacific U.  bringing back football would be great. I know they, along with the City of Forest Grove put in a sports park with a Soccer field along with baseball and softball fields with turf. It would have been nice to see a place for a stadium for Football though.
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

I read the AD's article on the scheduling of two SIAC schools for the 2010/2011 season.  In the article he states that the down side to the scheduling was the huge budget increase.  I fail to see how that is such a big deal as I'm sure they are home and away series on alternating years.  Clearly a trip to Southern California can't be as expensive as a trip to Texas.  Appears to me to be about a wash to the budget over a two year basis and clearly is a better deal for the Cats to be playing within Division III.
He only mentions calling the SIAC schools in Southern California but there is also the Independent schools like Chapman is Southern California who are probably also trying to fill out their schedules.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

I was told Whitworth has an all DIII 10 Game Schedule for next season. I will be interested to see who they have scheduled.

Plus there are IIAC, WIAC, MIAC and other Texas Teams plus Independents.

Maybe he is assuming a continuation of the Texas game when considering the increased expenses (e.g. 2 big trips in a year instead of only one).
