After watching the Stagg Bowl, Willamette should be proud.    In the 2nd half, WWW outplayed Mount Union.    Two missed field goals and a tipped pass interception return for a TD was the difference.

Earlier, if Willamette had a better first half, they might have beaten WWW.   Clearly, Willamette was the 3rd best team in Division III this year.    Reminded me of Linfield in 2003, giving Champion St. John's their toughest game in the playoffs.

Next year, the race for the Stagg bowl must run through WWW.    They had just six Seniors on this team.    They will be very loaded for another run in 2009.

To compete against Mount Union and WWW, the NWC needs to step it up a notch.
Willamette did it this year.   Linfield did for several years.

Congrats Willamette - Great season

Clearly my ass George, they lost in the frickin second round, didn't even make it out of the West.  How on earth does that make them the 3rd best team in DIII.  I guess UPS should be in there somewhere as well as they were close until their opening kickoff.  Oh and didn't UWW take an L this year ?  What about the team that beat UWW ( the Pointers) where do they stand versus someone that was oh so close.  That is as lame as you get, but on the other hand it IS fantasy football at its best ;D

I know by now that I shouldn't try to argue with GHC (it's kind of like Linfield's DBs trying to cover Scott Schoettgen :P), but give me a break.  I don't pretend to know how the polls are going to turn out, but given what Whitewater did to everyone else in the playoffs except MUC, I think you can make a very good case that Willamette belongs in the top 5.  Not a foolproof case, but a solid case.  We didn't make it out of the West because we lost - by three points - to a team that was better than us.  That team turned out to be the #2 team in the country.

As for the Pointers, let's put Ole Miss in the BCS title game with Texas, shall we?  (Actually, putting Texas in wouldn't be that bad of an idea.)

By the way, congratulations to Scott Birkhofer, first team All-American on D3football.com!  A well deserved honor for him.  Also congrats to Merben Woo, Jake Forshey, and Adam Anderson of Whitworth, all second team All-Americans!

BC Press,
Its not a matter of argument, its a matter of facts.  I coach against guys that drive me wacko--  If we hadn't of had that bad third inning, or gave up the three bombs, or made such and such errors, you did and thats the way it turned out.  You go out and play your game and the final results are on the board.  You can't have a doover for a lackluster first half or bad inning, that is just why we play the game rather than just picking a score and Phoning it in !!

Get it
GOOD !!

Believe it or not, I'm with you on this - I'm not Mike "The Better Team Lost" Bellotti.  We weren't the better team.  But we were definitely close (i.e. we put up over 100 more yards against UWW than MUC did), and you can't hold it against us that we happened to come up against them in the second round instead of in the quarters or semis.

I have no problem with you or your boys, what I have a problem with is the thought process in general.
You have been a welcome addition to the board, and I'm sure WU appreciates your work.

They lost in the 2nd round in a bracket seeded by $DOLLARS$ not by the win/loss records of the teams in that bracket.

c'est la Vie - still a great season. 2 games short of playing for the D3 Championship. It'll take a pretty strong argument to convince me that WU couldn't have beaten Wartburg or Monmouth or St. John's but we'll never really know, will we? Losing by 3 points to the runner-up (and def. champs) should be a pretty good indicator, though.

Speaking of Fantasy...  I guess I must have overlooked where Linfield was in that bracket. Oh that's right, they got their asses handed to them at Home by the Bearcats and didn't make the playoffs.

I've heard we have some new recruits that will be shut down types.... ::)

Actually,  I really like the adjustments we made before the WOU game in terms of our DB's.  We have a great young core of DB's that are going to be tremendous over the next 2-3 years.
