It's true. Feeling very morose today.  I fell off the wagon. My resolution to be more simplistic was temporarily set aside.

Quoteduring the '99 championship season.

PLU won the Stagg Bowl that year.

QuoteAh, quit with that!
Blah, blah, blah Glory Days.

PLU does not mention their trophy in an arrogant way.

(Trying to kid with d-train)

Recently people at Whitworth and Willamette accuse LINFIELD of living in the glory days.
Glory Days capitalized because of the Bruce Springsteen song played at halftime at this year's Super Bowl.

QuoteWhitworth and Willamette have managed to squeak out 1st place the last couple of years.

Whitworth and Willamette fans (RFB, too) are factual in their gleeful reminder of the recent 6-3 LINFIELD seasons.
While it's NOT factual Willamette squeaked out anything in 2008, the CATS had Whitworth where they always have them in 2006 and let it get away; 2007 was a game Whitworth took when the opportunities were given them.
Quote
You don't hear them going on and on and on about their National Championship seasons, do you?
A back-handed, facetious reference to the fact that neither of those institutions has a National Championship as PLU and LINFIELD do.

....would you mind doing that with all your posts!?  ;D

I sure wish Linfield could get a tenth D3 game!!
If they play Oxy twice, they can have a home and home with the Tigers, as well as a tenth game. ;)

Our chances of getting two games with Oxy are probably better than getting one game with Redlands.

In my opinion a 9 game season is OK.....as long as we get 3 or 4 playoff games at the  end  of the regular  season.  Frankly I'd prefer to  only have 9 games and 3 playoff games than a 10 game season and no playoff games.
Of course first we have  to move off the 6-3 seasons of the  past 3 years!

GO CATS!

More importantly--we need to start winning the conference!

MonroviaCat,

I agree we need to win the conference. I think the boys in Purple need to have a pep talk on winning!

Talked with blue the other day and he said he saw a player somewhere and asked him how are we going to do next year, the kid says we should be as good as last season?  ??? 6-3? Come on.....at least have the mentality of we're going to win the Conference!!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Letter of Intent Day yesterday got me thinking. Does anyone know of any good recruits who may be headed to Linfield?

I hope there aren't any non-seniors who won't be able to come back to school next year. The economy is bound to make it difficult for some.

I see on Western Oregon's website that they are 'crowing' about the best 'signing day' in history.  They even pulled a top recruit right  out of under the Cats nose  in McMinnville.
What's happening to our beloved Cats?  Are we satisfied with a continuation of 6-3 seasons when we use to  pride ourselves in being a Top 25 team in Division III? We use to be able to  claim all the top talent in the Valley and give the left overs to to Bear Kitties and the Wolves.....looks like things have changed.  How in  the  world could  a kid want to  go  to  a single stoplight  town like Monmouth when they could come to Mac that has The  Deluxe  and The Blue Moon?  What's wrong  with our new style of  recruiting when the  Wolves pick up  the  Valley talent?  From 3 consecutive 6-3 seasons to losing the  recruiting wars......what is the  problem at the  Catdome????

OH GOD THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!  You have to be kidding me with this garbage.

If you didn't notice we had a FANTASTIC recruiting class this past season.  Linfield's staff picked up 8/9 players that played in the Les Schwab state all-star game, we had 4 freshmen starting at one point on the defense this past season and a large number of Sophomore and Frosh playing big minutes in 2007.

I love you all out their in Catland but can you get some perspective please?  Of course other coaches are going to say "this is our greatest signing day EVER!" That's what every coach says on LOI day.  What else are they going to say "We really did sign some real turds today"?

I'm disappointed to read that some of you REALLY think the staff is content with 6-3 seasons and are just sitting on their hands just hoping some recruits just show up at out door.  I'm sure this Chicken Little attitude will do a 180 when Linfield rolls out a press release in May when recruits pay their deposits and Linfield lands some outstanding players.

Until then please continue to piss your pants over what others are doing/saying and interpreting what a player may say to a community member as a lack of passion when it may just be a case of a kid trying to show some humility.

Wow! PLU to play a 10 game, all D3 schedule in 2009:

http://www.plu.edu/athletics/football/schedule.html

Looks like that's the case for Whitworth as well:

http://www.whitworth.edu/Athletics/Teams/Football/Schedule09.htm

Interesting additions by both teams...

10 games, that's great.  I must say I'm a little disappointed that L&C is the homecoming.  I'm considering coming down for my 25th class reunion.  Was hoping it'd be against one of the teams with some of you posters.  Schedule looks tough though with the three top teams in the league all on the road.

Would transfers from W. Washington sign letters of intent and if so did Westorn O. land anyone from there?

Well said 11---and when I read D.O.C.'s post it was a mirror of my thoughts.  Of course Western Oregon is going to sign some players that Linfield and other D3 schools won't especially in this economy.  Scholarships are a huge motivator for certain players.  I for one was exited by what we saw from several of the young Cats last season and I think we should expect big things from them this year and beyond.  I also think that last year's record was much more the result of injuries than anything else.  Willamette was the one team that truly handled the Cats but I think in either of the other 2 losses the Cats had a real shot at winning and had the pre-season starting lineup been playing they very well could have.  But that's all a bunch of what-if......  No the Cats are still strong, in my opinion, things have changed, sure---Wetern is paying some of their recruits to come and play but the Cat players are still there because they want a good education and are playing because they love the game.  And that goes for the rest of the NWC.  Now if we can all take a deep breath, relax, and wait for about 7-8 months we'll see what the 2009 Cats can do.

Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Calm down guys. We were in the Top 25 for a couple weeks last season.  And we won the NWC 4 years ago...everybody should be happy! I wouldn't worry abou WOU, we no longer play those low lives. Does MUC worry about who the nearby DII schools are recruiting? I doubt it...it doesn't seem to phase them.
