We'll have to have a cook-off sometime, coco...

...how dorky would that be?

The epitome of dorkdom. What is basically salad on steroids isn't a good candidate for a cook-off when no one else present would eat it. Well, maybe Bluenote. It would have to be meat! Wings, beef sticks, meatballs, etc.

Bring it, BoBo.

Yep, the Year of the 'Cat. I can feel it in my bones. We're looking good.

Catdomealumni.com special report!

Catdomealumni.com's blog, ADvantage Catdome, has just posted up a follow up piece on Pacific University and their quest to bring football back.  Pacific A.D. Ken Schumann presented to a University Faculty board that will vote on the A.D.'s proposal.  There is a link to the proposal (.pdf), a projected revenue/cost breakdown (.pdf), and story from the school news paper.

ADvantage Catdome:  "Pacific A.D. makes his pitch for football"

A couple things here. Where did these Pacific faculty people come from who have these outmoded, stereotypical ideas about football players? The 1950s comic books? Have they been locked up in their little ivory towers for so long that they don't know what life is like on a real college campus? Ken Schumann deserves a medal for answering their questions with civility, instead of bopping them on the head. It must be frustrating for him to have to deal with such ignorance.

I'm offended at their implication that linemen are huge, drooling Neanderthals who communicate in grunts. Hell, the linemen are the smart ones! Most of us learned to speak in sentences by our junior year.

I wish Pacific all the luck in bringing football back.

Second, the WOU approach to admissions is the most bizarre I've heard of. Fourteen applied and all fourteen were accepted at one high school. Well, I'll be damned. There goes the cream of the crop. Now how about retention rates?

Third, thank you once again, WC11, for your clips. Big Hits III was great! I even flinched a couple times....

Wildcat'64

While catching  a little sun from the  land of  ice  and snow, the  papers here  in  Arizona are full with  budget cuts to  higher  education.....100's of millions  of  dollars next year.  The  Universities  have frozen  applications for next years freshman  classes.  Athletic  departments as well  as all other departments are screaming  about  the cut of  funding.  Seems like the folks down  here  have been spending like there was never going  to be  an  end to the  gravy  train----then  the  housing  market collapse (their  main growth  industry).

At any rate good time for  Pacific to  go  on the recruiting trail.  Could be a lot  of kids looking  for a place to get an education  and still  be able to play  football.  6 million residents in the Greater Phoenix area produces a lot of quality student/athletes.

coco...I have to agree with you on that one. Most of the teams that make it deep into the playoffs have great lines on both sides of the ball + a good skill set! But the lines make it happen!

Right, Blue!

All D3 players have to have a little something going on upstairs.
Some of the D1 teams ought to hide a few of their players when the guys with the microphones come around.

Red and Purple Interview: Tyler Matthews

WC11,

Very good read and your site is really starting to take off. Tyler Matthews was a great quarterback and was very much a big reason for two Redlands losses in 2003. Glad to hear that he is doing well and thriving.

QuoteThat said, the 2002 team probably was the best team I've played on, and no doubt was one of the best in Linfield history. Our offensive line was flat-out dominant, and I believe there wasn't a team in the country that we couldn't handle on the line.

Oh, I'm not so sure about that ;)

Well, D.Russ did rush for 160 and 2 TD's but SJU did what they needed to do to move on.  2 missed FG and 5 turnovers doomed the 'Cats.  Well played Duff...well played.

Yeah, Yeah...I'll blame that on our LB's forgetting how to defend the flipping quick trap on his 55 yard TD run....where Crowley really killed us was catching those little check down/release passes that seemed to pick up 1st down after 1st down.  Nice player.

d-train

I remember the Johnnie D-line getting some serious pressure on Matthews that day.

All in all, it was two great teams and a great game.  It was one of the most fun games I played in.  Now if we could have just pulled our heads out of our butts versus Trinity... :-\

Great comment by Tyler Matthews about David Russell being the equivalent of two players.

Nice interview overall.

Who Should Catdomealumni.com Interview Next?

With low admissions standards, low in-state tuition, and large student bodies, the students at UW schools are like the girls at a Linfield frat party -- dumb, cheap and plentiful.

OxyBob

I vote for Bob...as long as the interview is done at a frat house

See you on the 19th Bob ;D
