Thanks, Wildcat11, appreciate it.

One Van Gundy played at Brockport State and the other at Nazareth. My brain is too friend to remember which at the moment. :)

This is late, but Stan played at Naz, Jeff at Brockport -- Their father coached at Brockport.

Although it won't be easy, I have great expectations that the Bearcats will make it another Cardinal and Gold 2009 season.   :)

....I doubt it.   :-*

Glad to see river's been holding down the board during my absence.  More press for Pacific from this week's Portland Tribune.  It looks like they've got pledges to cover the startup costs.

Quote...George Fox and College of Idaho are other small schools considering adding the sport.

That would give a 9-game schedule and leave one open date for a non-conference game.

Consider...maybe.  Pull the triger...doubt it.

Fox has put their money in other areas and are finding plenty of athletic success without having to add football.  I just don't see it in the near future.  CofI...I know that they are a potential DIII convert and would love to be part of the NWC but again I don't think football is high up on the list.  I don't know if they have the cash.  I would love to see CofI bring back football but I'm not going to hold my breath.

My wife and I were eating dinner in Flagstaff, AZ. this past week when an elderly gentleman approached us and said he noticed I was wearing a Linfield College Football sweatshirt. I told him our son attended Linfield from 2002 -2006 and that he played football there. He said he played there also and that he, " ...came in behind Ad Rustchman." Wildcat football is everywhere!

54 in '09!
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!

How about places to play? GEO F has zip as far as I remember.
College of Idaho should hit up Elgin Baylor and improve whatever they have.

UPS senior safety Demetri Huffman has posted up his highlights on YouTube.

"Highlights from Junior and Senior year.  Not all games and highlights present but it does justice to the Best Safety and DB in the NWC over 2007 & 2008. I am a ball-hawk and a lights-out hitter, enjoy!"

At the end of the clip there is text that says: "Best safety in the NWC"  and "Jr Year 2nd Team All-Conference, Sr Year 1st Team All-Conference Best DB in the League".

To correct him he was HM all conference his Jr year and 2nd team all-conference this past season.  Some nice plays on the clip but no reason to alter your accolades

Willamette finally released their schedule last week.  Ten games for the third straight year.

9/5     @ Concordia-Morehead
9/12   vs. Cal Lutheran
9/19   @ Southern Oregon
9/26   vs. La Verne
10/3   vs. Whitworth
10/10 @ Lewis & Clark
10/17 vs. Pacific Lutheran
10/24 vs. Linfield
10/31 BYE
11/7   @ Puget Sound
11/14 @ Menlo

As a personal aside, it's been a very exciting couple of weeks for me.  I found out last week that I won the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association award for Best Feature Story for my article on retiring basketball coach Gordie James.  I've also been hired to take over as Sports Editor for the Collegian next year, and apparently my football coverage was a big part of that decision.  So thanks to all of the posters here for the insight and analysis that you provide.  It's been an invaluable resource for me, and will continue to be so next year - since I plan on handling the football beat personally.

Congratulations, BP!

The exciting thing about this schedule is that it's essentially the same as the undefeated schedule of last season, just in opposite locations. I like it!

The highly popular and award winning Linfield Football Media Guide will not be printed this year according to an article written by Linfield SID Kelly Bird in the Summer 2009 Edition of the Linfield Athletics Newsletter. Stating costs, the current economic situation, the internet and staff time involved as the reasons for it's demise this year.

Does anyone know if other NWC schools are discontinuing their printed football media guides?

Blue,

As soon as I read that major DI schools were going this route I knew that it was only a matter of time and it's a crying shame.  Businesses are just not as apt to provide dollars to print media and the internet is the way for small schools to provide this information to the masses.  I'm sure there will still be high quality game day guides but I'm going to miss the media guides.

On another note, there was mention of the Linfield Sports site is going through a re-tooling and should re-launch by the start of next season.  Kelly Bird was nice enough to give me a quick glace at the template and it's going to be 100% first rate (as usual) with more video, pics, and more in-depth info on the 'Cats.  That will be great to see.

Nice lead in, you two! What an opportunity to shout out to Wildcat11 and SID Kelly Bird about their Video Display Board winning entry in the Nat'l Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (say what?) "Best Of" competition slated for Saturday down in Magicloserland.  8)

Hello, boys.

Wildcat11, you even have your picture in the athletics newsletter, but you're hiding behind your camcorder. That's a wonderful honor, and well-deserved. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's for his clip "Expect to Win" that plays on the scoreboard screen just before the players come out.

I'm really going to miss the media guide, too. I know Kelly Bird will do a fantastic job on the website, but it won't be the same as looking through the media guide before the game and at the half. It's nice to have it to hold and read when you're not sitting at the computer, and it's just the right size. Kelly Bird puts together such an outstanding publication. Sigh.

Thanks DO.C. and Coco.  It was Kelly Bird who sent in the video so props to him for getting it some attention.  I'm been mulling over some ideas for this year's clip and hope to make it a solid production.

On another note, I'm going to start putting together some catdomealumni.com 2009 shirt ideas in the next couple of days.  I'm not a graphic design person so I'm sure they will be pretty simple.  If any of you have ideas drop me a line.

On the football front, the first session of the 'Cats HS camp should be wrapping up today.  I stopped by and there was a number of current and old 'Cats working at the 'Catdome.  I'll be there for the 2nd session (starts Saturday).   Nothing major to report but there have been some additions to the staff and they will be a great fit.
