Thanks for the words raiderguy!

Mtunionfootball.com is the godfather of DIII fan sites but it's always nice to hear that Catdomealumni.com is fighting the good fight.

Did I mention to this group that I am indeed making that SoCal trip for Sept. 19? Thanks to whomever here put the idea in my head.

Your welcome !  I look forward to seeing you at all three games.

Does anybody know if Pacific has hired a head football coach yet? or is in the process of doing so?

wildcat11

Blue,

According to the Boxer Blog:

• The start-up is well underway for the Pacific football program, which will take to the field in Fall 2010. The first step is to hire a head coach. A search committee has met over the last month, sifting through over 125 applications. The list has been narrowed to five finalists. Expect an announcement during the first part of August.

You can bet your bottom longie there were some LINFIELD people in that mix. Pacific might be inclined to look hard at someone who knows that program well.

BTW,  Congrats to Whitworth's Anderson on being the only NWC rep for D3.com's pre-season all-american team.  Well deserved.

Las Vegas Wildcards

I noticed the United Football League's Las Vegas Locomotives have a couple of players Linfield faced in the past. Nate Jackson of Menlo, and Andre Thurman from Southern Oregon. Jackson used to be with the Broncos, and Thurman with the Packers.

D3 pre-season as hard of job as any.

Mr. Anderson should just about now be talking up rebuilding that rat passing game to free him up a tad. Averaging 2.5 (62 total) yards against The 'Cats like last season won't get anybody on the post-season selection list.    8)

I noticed Whitworth didn't really use Anderson last year to his full potential when they played at the CatDome. The guy can pretty much bust one loose anytime, but he was so underused it was scarey. And their offense is so predictable that it doesn't lend itself to much of an attack. Whitworth has always relied pretty much on their defense to win games.

Thanks for the info Wildcat11....I'm curious to see how Pacific shapes up. I'd sure like a quick jaunt over to Forest Grove for an away game. That's like 1 latte away.

Next year Whitworth can't rely on their defense, they are going to have to outscore opponents with the entire offense back except for one olineman.  They did however pick up an oline transfer from WSU who was a backup as an underclassman about 6'6" 275.  Should rely on the zone attack with both looks from Anderson and Nelson.  I'm hoping they choose one quarterback although both gave different looks.  I'm hoping the young defensive guys will mature over the years and we'll have to rely on the defense in the next year or two although having high firepower on both sides of the ball would be ideal.  Haven't posted in awhile...figured things are heating up....

Anderson and Nelson...now that's a tough one to stop. If Bluenote thinks Anderson was underused against LINFIELD, then Nelson was the Invisible Man. He looked impressive against Chapman last season.

Blue,

Anderson did have 25 carries vs Linfield last year but the Rats zone attack is just a bad match up against Linfield's defense and the 'Cats have really limited Anderson the past two seasons.  With the defense the 'Cats are bring back I would expect Linfield to be strong vs the zone once again.

Willamette alum Cal Lee received a write-up as one of "Hawaii's Sports Fabulous 50" in an article in the Honolulu Advertiser.  In the span of 20 years, he compiled a 241-32-5 record at St Louis High School, including 18 ILH league championships and 15 Prep Bowl (State championship) titles.  He and brother Ron, another Willamette alum, now coach for the Univ of Hawaii.  Brother Tommy, who was a head coach for the Bearcats, retired as head coach at Montana Western.

Dynasty had humble start

By Wes Nakama
Advertiser Staff Writer

The following is an excerpt from the article:

"That began a record streak of 55 consecutive victories that included four straight 13-0 seasons from 1986 through 1989. Along the way, Saint Louis defeated highly regarded Morse (San Diego), and in 1990 knocked off two Mainland powers in Springdale (Ark.) and Bakersfield (Calif.).

The Crusaders then opened the 1992 season with victories over California teams Mountain View and Clovis, and again finished 13-0. Their Hawai'i dominance and wins over top Mainland programs started to draw national attention, and at one point Saint Louis reached No. 2 in USA Today's Super 25 rankings."

Thanks, River. The Lees deserve the recognition. They've given a lot to athletics.

St. Louis has been sending players to Linfield for a long time and that makes this old alum proud. Just last year I think there were three freshmen, including Sparky Gonzalez, who got a lot of PT.

Ditto on Eddie G in the HOF.

coco,

you went to St. Louis? One of my best friends (and PLU roommate/teammate) was a QB from St. Louis.
