Lets go Cats. Sorry the Lamson's won't be in Menlo, have to work. The younger Lamson will be home licking his wounds. Just spoke to simon. He's pissed off he can't be there but he has to get well. Hope everybody has a safe trip and I know the Cats will let it fly. With Captian Rocketman at the helm I perdict 30+ for Linfield. And the Salty D will rise to the occasion. Can't wait to see the team in Spokane. Wife and I will be there.

Go Cats

Both Bubba and Mikey Lemon transferred to Willamette.  George and Chase Lemon are now assistant coaches at Lewis & Clark.

Will Bubba and Mikey be going to Lewis and Clark next year too?
Should be a fun game at the other Cats house,  Oct 24 in Salem.
Switching Schools in the same league doesn't happen all that much,
does It?

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Gig Harbor Cat

I was working the clock at last nights Gig Harbor game and ran into 02 Cat Chad Barrett.  He is now the head coach at Bonney Lake Wa.  Was there to scout one of the Gig Harbor schools.

The Barrett!  Wow, good for him.  Best of luck to his squad.  I also noticed that the L&C squad has '00 d-line Tim Jacobs as defensive coordinator for his second year.

What's the weather like for the boys today?

Back from the Linfield - Menlo game. Picked wildcat11 and got him to The game with time to spare so there will be plenty of video. Delivered him back to SJO so he can get home and work on the video he shot.  ;D

Talked with desertcat1 and met IslandCat.

The Cats delivered the win in workman like fashion. Despite the score, Menlo has a good D. The Oaks O and Linfield D kept giving the Cats great field position to work with. And the 78 yard screen on a 3rd and very long after a Cats penalty would take the wind out of anyone's sails. More to follow.

Good Catdome networking!

You probably got some great photos, too, cawcdad.

Is it too early to start drinking to celebrate? Already have, thank you.

GHC, Barrett is one of my boys. I love that kid.

Kelly Bird was doing the radio with Dave Hansen, so was unable to do his usual photographing. That is my pic accompanying the story on the Linfield site.

The Bearcats pretty much took Whitworth apart.  The Pirates couldn't get much going until the second half and then it was too late.  Without Adam Anderson for much of the game their offense was not what they needed.  Having said that, they didn't give up and played a classy game.  WU steadily improves and with that improvement comes confidence.  That, knowing how hard they have to play, and playing their game for four full quarters are what I have been looking for.  I was impressed by their ability to get themselves out of tight spots.  On one drive in, I think, the 2nd quarter they had 3 consecutive 3rd and longs and completed passes to Scott Schoettgen to get 1st downs.  Schoettgen then caught the touchdown pass.  A Whitworth guy made an amazing catch for one of their touchdowns.  Really an entertaining game.

Good job Cats. Have a safe trip home and get well. One more road game. I will be there to cheer you on so have a great week of practice.

How about them Cat Backs. Great job.

See you all in Spokane.

Forgot to mention, at halftime this years Menlo Hall of Fame group was introduced. It included Nate Jackson and Willamette Coach Mark Speckman. Speckman played at Menlo when it was a JC before transferring to Asuza Pacific.

Nice coverage of Willamette/Whitworth from Norm Maves in the Oregonian:

http://www.oregonlive.com/collegefootball/index.ssf/2009/10/willamette_42_whitworth_13_bea.html

I will disagree with him about one thing.  I think what really broke the Pirates was Willamette's 15 play, 98 yard drive that took 9:34 off the clock in the second quarter and put Whitworth down 21-0.  When the Bearcats scored again to start the second half, that forced the Rats to throw the ball a lot more than they like to.  Both Willamette QBs played well, and aside from some (i.e. way too many) penalties, the Bearcats' lines were outstanding.

As I said in the in-game updates thread, this result wasn't exactly what I was expecting.  I figured Willamette would win, but not dominate.  From an historical perspective, it's the Bearcats' biggest win over Whitworth since 1997, it's the most points Whitworth has given up to an NWC opponent since Linfield in 2005, and their most lopsided loss since Linfield in 2002.

One other observation: Linfield is going to have a field day with the Pirates' secondary.

I sure hope so.  Although, after listening to the radio commentary it sounded as if the Cats timing on the passing game was a little off against Menlo (anxious to hear eye-witness reports). So it would appear the Cats have a busy week of practice ahead of them.
Time to go to work Cats!

The passing game was a bit off. Boehme seemed to not have his usual zip and threw behind recievers on a number of occasions. The DBs for Menlo were also pretty good with tight coverage which allowed the pass rush to flush Boehme and forced a number of throw aways. I think that's why we saw none of the homerun type passes. The short quick passing game seemed to work quite well.
