The Cats can ill afford to be looking forward to the playoffs.  That scenario has played out before and we've been sitting around wishing we could have been playing in November and December.  If the Cats 'take care of business' in each of the last two games they could possibly overtake St. Johns and have a good chance to play at home a couple of games in the playoffs.  If they get overconfident, we could have a repeat of history and we can sit and discuss all the what if's for another year!!

One game at a time!!!

Great game in Salem yesterday.  I was impressed with the variety of ways the Wildcats gained yards on offense.  Good use of the TE and screens; QB making plays with his legs; etc.

It's too bad about that Concordia game for the Bearcats.  I'm sure the result would be different if played now.  But as is, they need some serious help to make the playoff field.

Congrats to the L&C Pio's! Will they get a conference win this year as well (they host UPS the last week)?

It's all supposition, but I don't think LC would have faired much better making the long trip to Minnesota on the first Friday of the season, arriving at the hotel just before Midnight, then having to play in front of 4000+ hostile Cobber fans in Concordia stadium on short rest w/o even a visitors walkthrough. I'm just sayin...

That's all in the past now though - time to take care of business against UPS and then Menlo!

Wow, nice excuses about a loss to a 1-4 MIAC team. Does this mean that Willamette is the heart of Oregon whine country?

Can't imagine an LC poster with a similar litany of lame alibis.

D O.C.

I do think LC would have faired much better.

SJU plays Augsburg and Carlton to end out the season. Neither team is terrible but they aren't that good either...kind of like what Linfield has in front of them in UPS and PLU....but PLU kind of makes me nervous. They can get feisty, especially at the CatDome where I've seen them beat us pretty badly a few times.....so nothing is a given. I would love to leapfrog SJU somehow in the rankings to get that home field advantage over them? I'm trying to figure out how they are ahead of us in the polls anyway with their schedule vs ours? Maybe the regioal ranking will be different?

That LC-v-WU football game was fun to watch...also a bit nerve racking.
I can still hear my wife screaming "RUN, RUN, RUN" while AB was sipping tea in the pocket looking down field.  Outstanding work by the O line.  The cats got the goods to finish the job.
This game should give coaching plenty of material to close some gaps next week.
Just my guess, but I'll wager Coach Smith will have his usual...nice game but....

Dont forget Central, we still get to beat Wartburg and BV, two of the top teams in our conference this year, so we could do some leapfrogging as well! :) We would love to have you in Pella! Although SJU didn't enjoy their last visit...maybe you dont want to come.

Good win and keep it going the rest of the season!

I won't comment on the travel planning there, but certainly Linfield's record on the road speaks for itself this year -- especially if Oxy wins the SCIAC.

You'll notice I prefaced my comment with "it's all supposition" - but I don't think traveling to SoCal is comparable to travelling 2/3 of the way across the country for your first game of the season. Evidence; The Cobbers did the same thing last year with the same result - a loss. Water under the bridge though....

It's on in Tacoma in 2 weeks!

I suspect Linfield will indeed be ranked ahead of St. John's in the regional rankings this week. The numbers suggest they should be, at least.

The Top 25 is beginning to drift that direction as well.

I suppose that's what happened back at Gustavas Adolphus as well. But how in the hinders did you lose to them at home too?

Here's the rub BCF, LINFIELD not being picked to win the conference and not respected in the top 25 was enough jet fuel that the team could have traveled anywhere in the country to beat 230 teams.

Yes, Wesley included.

We were really, really bad in 2006, and slightly less bad in 2007.  That's how.[/truth]

Enough "jet fuel" for a few fans on the D3Boards at least. No one really knows how things like that factor in to the performance of a team, though, or even if they factor in at all. Except for maybe the coaches and players.

Like I said - "supposition..."

It does make for good bantering on these boards, though  :)

Man....I'm pumped up now...if we could get ahead of them in the NCAA Rankings that would be HUGE!!! Thanks for the info Pat!
