WOW.

I appreciate the recognition given to Linfield by the committee, but Whitewater at #4 is crazy. The games work out correctly for traveling, however, which is the financial goal, dammit.

We all have been critical of our scheduling in the past. Might I extend a big THANK YOU to the AD for getting WOU off our schedule.

Now the task is simple Cats...take care of business are we're hosting at least 3 games.

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Not necessarily,  The way I read it is that right now the strength of Schedule Numbers favor Linfield which is why they are at the top of the list---but these numbers will be changing over the next 3 weeks and could result in changes to these lists....I think we want to root for all the teams we've played as well as the teams they've played to win (unless of course we're playing one of those teams...).  Whitewater has two very good opponents remaining and wins against them will boost their numbers...St. Johns and Central have less impressive remaining schedules but certainly not any less impressive than Linfield's remaining (winless UPS and PLU who will be at best a .500 team when the Cats face them).  So, it's not just an issue of taking care of business....I'm sure somebody can crunch numbers and gives scenarios based on SOS numbers but it won't be me :)
Go Cats!

You're right. Our SOS won't improve much with what we've got ahead.

I think it could go down (depending of course on what our past opponents do and how our opponents opponents do....).... :-\
Go Cats!

First off congrats to the cats on the #1 ranking.

I have to agree with the other poster when I see UWW at #4...wow.

By looking at the upcoming opponents and assuming all top 4 teams go undefeated the rest of the way.  What is the chance there is much mixing up of those teams?

Last  Games(conference W-L)

Johnnies                                          UWW
Augsburg  3-2                        UW-Stevens Point  4-0
Carleton    1-4                       UW-Oshkosh  2-2
                                            UW-La Crosse  2-2

Central                                                   Linfield
Buena Vista  3-2                                   UPS    0-3
Wartburg     3-2                                    PLU    2-1

I see UWW having a shot to move up the list because they play two teams that could have pretty good overall winning records (SP and LC) which should improve their SOS---I don't see St. Johns or Centrals SOS changing a lot (but I haven't actually crunched the numbers because I'm lazy).  I think we could end up with something more like what everybody was expecting (Whitewater at #1 followed by Linfield, Central, St. Johns...)  But I'm hoping to see Linfield as a #1!
Go Cats!

BCF,

Thanks for recognizing my 15 seconds of Wildcat fame. If I knew how to give karma, or if I even can, I'd smother you with them. Good job!

Now, the topic of the moment brings exhilaration to my bones. However, Linfield can only take care of it's business. Go Cats!

I haven't crunched numbers and I agree that Central and SJU won't changed a lot but won't Linfield's change with their opponents records being so bad?  Just asking I don't know the formula they use so I don't even know how to crunch numbers  ;D ;D ;D

#1 in the West. Sounds good. Lets keep it going. Take care of business one week at a time and the puzle will come together.

As for the SOS. How many other teams in the mix have beat a possible confrence winner. If Oxy wins out and is the SCIAC Champ I think that gets you extra points. So go Oxy. And it can't hurt if Hardin Simmons wins out.

So good luck to all and lets win this saturday, and take a diserved break next weekend to let the warriors heal-up.

Luaville Cat,

If I had karma privileges I'd reward you for bringing up the (totally unexpected)1974 loss to Whitman. Here at the Old Folks Home, while the neurons often don't all fire at the same time, that devastating loss was one I was thinking of in my earlier posts.

If I remember correctly (and that's a BIG if), one of the "weird" events was a Whitman 4th down near midfield. The Cats rushed only one, while 10 raced back to set up the return. The lonely rusher was defensive end Jay Buse (last name should have been "a-buse") who blew past all blockers, thoroughly smothered the punt and punter. Unfortunately, the ball dribbled off to one side out of Jay's vision. But the punter jumped up, grabbed the ball, and chased all the Cat players down the field for a touchdown. (All the Cat players had their backs turned as they were running back to set up the return.)

It was that sort of day (all day) for the (then) highly ranked Cats. Net result, of course, was no invite to the postseason.

One Game at a Time. Go Cats!!!
