The great thing about the Stagg Bowl was how all three aspects of the game were executed. Offensively, the Cats were balanced, and made the key plays when it counted. Defensively, Linfield controlled the Crusaders potent running game, and also stopped MHB at the end. Special teams, a good punt put MHB in bad field position, which led to the tackling of the Crusader punter after the defense forced a three and out. This set up the TD pass which proved to be the difference in the 4th quarter.

...it's stormy here at the CatDome right now but it's supposed to clear up somewhat and be drier for game day tomorrow.  :D

Is that The Boss and "Glory Days" I hear in the background?

Not nitpicking with you, my brother, but the punter plain a** dropped the ball he was so rattled. The Jenkins catch and run was a one-handed wonder where after the catch a UMHB back had a shot before the goal line but he pulled up for some reason.

These are some of the reasons not many outside the NWC were happy we finished off that statistically impressive season with the trophy. Who cares about them, eh? Not you and me.

Blue,

Hour by hour forecast on accuweather.com is calling for it to be cloudy and 41 from 1pm-5pm tomorrow.  Rain should hit later that night.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

During the remainder of football season/playoffs the worst we'll probably see is very heavy rain mixed with cold and wind.  Last weekend was horrible and I was very thankful that we had the bye.

More recent playoff games have been a mix in terms of conditions.  2000 was the mud game with some good rain that day, 2002 games with Wartburg and SJU we actually had great clear conditions, 2003 vs Redlands was rainy but the next weekend vs Wartburg was great. Then the 2004 through 2005 playoff runs we had great weather every single weekend.

It's the PacNW so you never know what you're going to get.

The Willamette Valley (Willamette, Pacific, George Fox, Lewis and Clark, LINFIELD) are almost in a temperate rain forest. Mild (45-50) most of the winter with constant drizzle. BUT! if you go read the SCAIC/NWC in game board for last week you will see storms can come through and be very disruptive.

Snow comes but does not stay long.

Now Whitworth is part of the Great Basin and can have (almost) your weather.

It's all Pacific driven and not Canadian.

Its great here right now, but would love for some snow and wind in a few weeks if we are lucky enough to get you guys in town ;)

DutchHawk,
I don't see the Cats playing Central anywhere but in
McMinnville at the CatDome if thats the way things turn out.
Pat has St.J #1 and Linfield #2 in the Playoffs if we were to start today.

See all you Cat fans tomorrow,

GO WILDCATS!
ONE GAME AT A TIME!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

OK....

I personally did not like Halloween influence and I most certainly did not like the IDLE Bye Week.

Let's set the table and run it Saturday.
The new season starts at that moment.

GAME DAY #10:
#22 Willamette Bearcats vs. Menlo Oaks

WHEN: 12:00 p.m. Saturday

WHERE: Conner Athletic Field; Atherton, California

RECORDS: #22 Willamette 7-2, 4-1 NWC; Menlo 4-5, 3-2 NWC

ON THE AIR: Webcast at www.willamette.edu/athletics

BRIEFLY: The Bearcats remain an outside shot for NCAA playoff consideration, pending a number of outcomes in the final week of the season. Despite an earlier ban on playoff discussion, Speckman says it is impossible to ignore.

"You can't really put it out of your mind," Speckman said. "It's frustrating. We're better than some teams that are probably going to make it ... but we lost control of our own chances against Linfield.  We're ready, though, if we get the call."

Of course, in order to merit any playoff consideration at all, Willamette first has to beat Menlo, an NWC enigma over the past several weeks. Defensively solid all year long, the Oaks' offense has had difficulty finding a rhythm after losing starting quarterback Nick Ruhl for the season in their game against Linfield. Without Ruhl, Menlo did score an impressive 14-10 win at Whitworth on Oct. 24, but just one week later struggled to get past Lewis & Clark at home.

"They're athletic, and they've got a very good defense," Speckman said. "I think they're struggling a little bit to find an offensive identity."

For Speckman in particular, games in Atherton have a special significance: an alumnus of Menlo from its days as a junior college, Speckman was inducted into the Oaks' Hall of Fame this fall.

"It's fun to go back. I look up and see my dorm room, where I did my work study ... it's a bizarre little place."

Great write-up Press!

I heard today that they expect about 150 at the WU Tailgate.  Wish I could've made it...

Go Bearcats!
