Bluenote,

I am sorry that my comment sounded worse than it was.  I am not an English professor.  Linfield did nothing wrong. I too saw the H-S game and those injuries were just the risks of the game.    LC plays very hard; those were not cheap shots by LC.

Whitworth's two QBS were also hurt in the Linfield game.   I saw that game also and LC again did nothing wrong; they just play hard.    Injuries happen in football.    I am sure we wish they don't.    But they do.

My point was our SOS was hurt by what happened to H-S after our game.     Does it matter for the playoffs?    Who knows?   I have seen so many different opinions on seedings that I have no idea where games are played after Saturday.

And as you wish, no more GO CATS! GO from me on this board.

Wildcat,

Yes, that is ironic.   We also lost our starting QB in 2006 and had a rash of running back injuries the last three years.

Kings4,
You know you are exactly right.  Our D will never cover the spread.  Purple frisbees are for Drama only. Were really not that good, we always just seem to get lucky when we go to Cali. for games over the years.
So save yourself the trip and just pick a score and

Hey km4,   If you want a good steak try the Ringside in portland, if you want to see some beautiful oregon breed fillies try Dukes..  :-*

the cats already have a nice tiger skin on the wall at the catdome plus some bulldog ba--s..  so a  kings crown would be nice too.

That's OK George.... I took that wrong but your explanation makes sense.  Good work!   :D

KGW is reporting that Jerry Glanville is out at Portland State and that Speckman is on the short list of replacements.

Maybe my reporting career isn't over just yet ... :-\

I don't know...really don't think PSU would have the balls to hire someone that would bring in such a different offense.  Would the Fly work at that level?  Sure, but I'm not sure if the heads at Portland State would be willing to wager on that after getting burned by the Run and Shoot change that Jerry brought in.

I see them going the safe route and hiring a standard DI assistant.

WC11, I just applied for the job, was looking for something fulltime anyway. My first move will be returning to the pre-Glanville green uniforms, I remember they wore those in a big road win at Hawaii earlier this decade. Second, we'll be installing the true wishbone, J.C. Watts will be my offensive coordinator. Third, I will need a defensive coordinator............

When it comes to the NCAA D-III playoffs, Mark Speckman tells it like it really is:

QuoteNo.22 Willamette, runner-up to Linfield in the Northwest Conference, was left out of the 32-team playoffs despite an 8-2 record and a 20-17 victory over Cal Lutheran on Sept. 12.
...

Willamette coach Mark Speckman was disappointed, but resigned, to the Bearcats not making the playoffs. Teams with two losses rarely get one of the nine at-large berths.

"That's our lot in life in the wilderness," said Speckman, whose team lost its opener at Concordia of Minnesota on Sept. 5, then beat every opponent except Linfield. "If we beat Linfield, we'd be going. After we lost the Linfield game, I told our team not to even talk about the playoffs.

"The best we could have expected was a bus ride to McMinnville to play Linfield again, but that wouldn't have been fair to Linfield after the season they had."

In regards to the NCAA selection process the best method for teams is to leave no doubt.

No doubt that is true. Speckman's remarks show a ton of class - WU had a chance to win their way in, and could not get it done. I, for one, hope that Speckman stays at Willamette. And of course the fly offense would work at PSU. Especially with a coach who pays attention to detail, and runs it to perfection.

One more point. Capital High School in Boise runs the fly under former Willamette player Todd Simis. They beat perennial power Highland of Pocatello 38-3 in the semis, and now play for the state title Friday against Eagle High. Last Capital title - 1991. A little Idalogger trivia.

"Speckman's remarks show a ton of class"

Maybe. Depends on what he means by this: "That's our lot in life in the wilderness..."

If he means the Bearcats put themselves on the bubble (wilderness) with two losses then okay.  But if he is refering to being isolated out west (which I think he is), he's making a weak and partial excuse.  There were 7 one- loss teams for 6 at-large slots.  Simply put, two-loss teams were never seriously considered regardless of location.

Why would that not be fair to Linfield?  I wouldn't mind beating Willamette twice in the same year.   ;D

D O.C.

Widcat11, you got me thinking why the excitement around campus is not paramount to 2000-2005.
One thing we have to take into consideration is all the other sports that are going concurrently. Near as I can figure students, friends, family, and even alumns are spread out.
Men/Women basketball under way, Cross County Nationals, M/W swimming . Soccer has been going on the last  two home games, yeah?
Still, a highly ranked football team playing at home has always brought them in from "Pike, Dundee, and Tualatin."
Are there any plans you've heard of for a Willamette section at this week's playoff game. That would be a kinder, gentler WILDCAT NATION gesture.

From the Cal Lu web page:
Fans unable to travel and see the game can stay up-to-date via the Wildcats broadcast on the internet. Visit the Linfield athletics Website and click on "Listen Live" to catch all the action. The game will also be broadcast live on McMinnville radio station KLYC (1260 AM). There will be no live video streaming.

Kingsman4:
I really appreciate the picture of the Linfield player scoring a td attached to your postings. That shows a lot of respect from you.  ;)
