Another week has passed....it's time to cast another ballot for Brett Elliot @ www.voteforheisman.com....
Let's keep those D3 votes coming....remember the rules say you can vote for your candidate once a week until mid-December.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

the boys from the East can put up all of the smokescreens that they want, but you all know that we are more than on the RADAR screens.  The NWC year in year out will contend.  There are alot of championship rings worn around the northwest--Last I heard they don't just gine those away.

PLULute2CLU,

I have to disagree with what you said about how the NWC schools could schedule games against SCIAC teams but don't.  All NWC teams except Linfield and Willamette played at least one SCIAC team this year.  Those Cali boys don't want to schedule games they might lose so they stick to picking weaker programs like L&C.

The reason the SCIAC hasn't gotten two teams into the playoffs in the past is because they play weak schedules.  Even your boys at Cal Lu have that going against them not having beaten a team above .500 all year.  If Cal Lu ended the year 8-1 with a couple of quality wins they would make the playoffs.

I may also be in the minority but I don't think that west coast schools get slighted at playoff time.  The years the NWC deserved to get two teams in the playoffs they did.  Now in 2001 it should have been Linfield instead of Whitworth but there were still two who made it.  I'm not convinced of the east coast bias theory.

Good one! Guess we'll need to snap yours now.

Bring your boots North, Kittie...We're hitting Duke's with Mr. Long Island!

Rockcat,

Redlands does not schedule any pansies. They have played Willamette/Linfield and Whitworth/Trinity(TX) over the last four years. Before that they hade APU, Menlo, USD. Back in the early 90's it was DII Hayward State/San Francisco State. When they played Lewis & Clark they were decent. Redlands might not schedule Linfield right now but they will schedule good programs. Back in the 90's Redlands made the playoffs twice (1990, 1992) when only sixteen teams made the dance. That means the SCIAC got some love in the past.

Thanks Scandi for clearing any confusion up before it got out of hand like some things can do on these boards.

I am not the CLU coach.  Although, I do my fair share of yelling and calling plays from the stands at Mt. Clef Stadium.  I am merely an employee of CLU that graduated from PLU.  I didn't play at PLU either.  I was just around the program a lot (especially my senior year when they won their 4th National Title).

Just adding to the discussion about PLU in 99 and Linfield later on bringing the NWC into the D3 Spotlight.....Isn't it correct that the NWC was not in the D3 prior to 99?  I don't know when the SCIA joined D3 but I suspect they've been there a while and have not managed to gain the spotlight yet.  The NWC did it immediatly though.....Just my 2 cents

Monrovia...

The SCIAC has been around since 1915.  As far as I know it has been a D3 conference since at least 1983.  You are right, the NWC definitely rose to prominence much quicker.

However, prior to 1999 the D3 playoffs consisted of only 16 teams.  Laverne got into the playoffs in 1994 and had to play (Semifinalist who lost to champion Albion) SJU in Collegeville.  Other than that, Oxy played in 1983, '84 and '85 (when only 8 teams made it).  CLU did win a NAIA championship in 1971 as well, but then made the jump to D2 for a while before joining the SCIAC in 1991.

Redlands might not schedule Linfield right now but they will schedule good programs. posted by RFB today!

WC11, DC1 and all the others......did you hear that. their Phones do work! Mark this day down, at least they admit it now!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

The fact is the SCIAC can play with the other good teams in the country.  They just need to get the chance.  Granted, we could schedule them, but in most cases don't.

Rockcat,

What I meant by saying the above, is that the SCIAC teams could schedule harder competition, but in most cases don't.  I recognize that NWC teams often times play SCIAC teams, and that doesn't mean SCIAC playing up, or NWC playing down.  That is determined by which particular teams are playing.  CLU has scheduled PLU for years (recently having a 3 year hiatus).  Redlands and Linfield have played.  Don't wuss out with the SCIAC only plays L&C argument.  Its kind of like the mighty Linfield scheduling Menlo and Stevens Point.  There are a couple tough games for you!

I'm not saying that there is a East Coast bias when it comes to setting up the playoffs.  All I am saying is that with the lack of D3 teams on the West Coast, NWC and SCIAC teams don't have as many top tier teams to pick from with out blowing up their travel budget!  I agree the west coast, particularly the NWC has made out quite well when it comes to getting teams in.  At least 4 times, the NWC has got 2 teams in.  I agree that it should have been Linfield and not Whitworth a few years ago.

The bias that I think exists is amongst fans and followers of D3 football that think the West Coast teams aren't really very good, and that they play an inferior type of game.  Wartburg laughed at PLU (PLU 49-14), SJU had respect for the Lutes (PLU 19-9), Trinity laughed at PLU (PLU 49-14), Rowan laughed out loud - the players laughed (PLU 42-13).  Same thing last year.  All of the coverage was about how Linfield somehow figured out a way to win.  No, they were just better!  That's where the bias lies.

Finally, CLU/SCIAC not playing tough teams...true.  How about Linfield's SOS?  1 victory over a team with a winning record...Whitworth (4-3).  Hardly scheduling strength!  How about this stat...Oppenents winning percentage... Linfield .317 (19-41), Oxy .393 (24-37), CLU .431 (38-37).  Strength of schedule?

Please take it easy on what you say to d-train.. All good things must one day come to an end (hopefully not in my lifetime) but when it does the cats streak will be 0.  2001 is history, its over and done with.

I think purple flag has changed his handle but has not posted in awhile.

Where's the tailgate gonna be at?  I remember two or three years ago one of them was in the parking lot at the north end of catdome south. Guess I can look for back2back, he'll be easy to spot along with Spirit.

Anyone no what happened to Fatman?
