While were in a praying mood---send some towards my family--my dad died unexpectedly from a brain aneurism this past weekend....

Sorry to hear about this, my thoughts are with you and family during this difficult time. I lost my dad in 1997, so I know what you're going through.

Wildcat'64

Monrovia Cat,

My condolences.  I know the feeling well and it never goes away.  You always will remember the good times with your Dad.  My Dad has been gone now 13 years but I never step foot in the Catdome that I don't look at the seats that he and my Mom sat in for over 20 years never missing a Wildcat home game. My Dad passed away from a heart attack after attending a Monday morning QB breakfast with Ad.  He was living Wildcat football until the last moments of his life.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

ADvantage Catdome = ADvantage Mailbag

Enjoyed the mailbag feature, WC11.  I scrolled down, and read your story on George Fox, and the huge financial and land donation. Clicking on the school's link, noticed two images of a Bruins helmet. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but it seems GFU is seriously interested in adding football. Appears the question is no longer if, but when. They even have images of a proposed multipurpose stadium, with football yard markings.

Does anyone know anything about the history of Bruin football, didn't they shut down the program around 1969?

M-CAT  Heartfelt condolences.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

George Fox University fielded a football team from 1894 to 1969, but dropped it primarily for financial reasons.  Linfield has a 6-4-1 record against the Bruins.  It sure would be nice to have another close game and another opponent for the jv program.

13 Year Old Commits To USC: David Sills

The next Tiger Woods?  The next Lebron James?  Everyone is always looking for the next phenom. And that's why you might want to learn the name David Sills.  He is a seventh grader who just gave a verbal commitment to the University of Southern California to be their quarterback - in 2015.

The six-foot-tall 13-year-old is a wunderkind in the eyes of his personal coach Steve Clarkson,  who has mentored top college quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen and current USC star Matt Barkley.

What do you guys have to say about this? Seeing that national signing day was just a few days ago; Is this too early of an age to recruit a player?
Will this be the new trend in college recruiting? This kid hasn't made an high school team yet, but he has committed to a D1 school already.

I think it's wrong, besides, Kiffin may not even be coaching USC in 2015. I don't know anything about this kid, but we could be looking at another Todd Marinavich saga.  If you remember, he was programed like a computer by his dad to play QB, and washed out of the NFL after a couple of years. Last I heard, he was busted for dope.

"Some guys think the most important thing in life is their jobs, the stock market, whatever. To me, it was my kids. The question I asked myself was, How well could a kid develop if you provided him with the perfect environment?"
— Marv Marinovich

The above quote is attributed to Todd Marinovich's father. Todd's real name was changed by his mother a few years after he was born. He was a bust, no pun intended, in the nfl, but so are a lot of players. That said, this kid is only 13 years old! What happens when he enters high school and has to compete for a starting position? Do coaches give him preferential treatment because they know he is going to usc? Are high schools going to be recruiting this guy in violation of the rules? It's one thing to dream that your son or daughter will compete, or have the chance to compete, at the highest levels of sport, but to make that determination when they're 13---give me a break! This is just so wrong on too many levels. I can't wait for 2015 and see where this goes. Actually, oral commitments don't mean much.

Kiffin is a joke, this is a publicity stunt. He prob won't be there to coach the kid, she he develope into a D-1 Talent at that time. I remember kids in Pop-Warner that were a foot taller than everyone, "destined" for the NFL. Everyone else grew up, they staye the same, and got cut from the JV squad. I jsut don't see the point here!

D O.C.

Since we can stretch the Super Bowl this year to Division III because Pierre Garcon did so well to get there, I'll have a take...
(What the heck was he doing at Norwich University in Vermont to begin with BTW?)

It was my kind of out-on-the-end-of-the-Bell-Curve game with the Saints taking the ball at the coin flip instead of deferring, the on-side kick to begin the half by a punter who does not usually kick off, and the going for two when you had a 5 point lead. Fun stuff. Without those risks the game might have been as predictable as the half-time entertainment. Still good enough to watch but, so what?

It seems to me there were a good many catchable balls that were not completed.   I DID like the receiver – forget who he was - that did not use gloves to aid in catching the ball. That is also rarely seen nowadays.
