Trivia: Was he not Davy Crockett - hence the coonskin hat - before Daniel Boone?

D O.C.
Right you are sir!

*In 1954, Walt Disney signed Parker to play the title role in Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. Davy Crockett was a tremendous hit with children, and led to a merchandising frenzy for coonskin caps and all things Crockett. In 1964 Parker began filming his network television series, Daniel Boone. During six years as one of the highest rated shows of its time, Parker not only starred in the series but co-produced it and directed five of its most popular episodes. Parker continued to star in numerous box office hits for Disney, Paramount and Warner Brothers' Studios, while laying the foundation for his second career as real estate developer.

*Gleaned from Wikipedia and FessParker.com

I do remember watching that show as a kid, along with Gilligan's Island,  F-Troop,  and Star Trek among others. Those were the days when parents didn't have to worry about what their child was watching on TV. When you'd wake up super early the indian test pattern was on the black and white TV. Those were good times, glad I grew up in the 60s and 70s as opposed to today.

Steel Curtain:
I gave you +karma for remembering the test pattern.  :D Those were the days!

1992 Linfield versus 2009 Linfield, who wins?

2009 team wins.   1992 was a very good team, but beatable.   They could not adjust  to Findlay's option run and pass attack.    They were vulnerable to Findlay's B grade passing game.    Last, Findlay's defense completely stopped LC's option offense.

2009 team almost beat WWW on their home field.    Findlay would have been hit by 28+ points from our 2009 passing attack.    2009 team ranks up there with the 2002-2005 powerhouses.    A very strong team, indeed!

GT

The 1992 team was the first time I had ever heard of Linfield College, I was living in Florida at the time, and one of the regional sports channels showed that game sometime after it was actually played. Eight years later, I was hired to work in McMinnville, and while I was researching the place, Linfield College was mentioned immediately. Life is full of surprises, and that turned out to be of the good ones.

Good to see you up from your hibernation on the Vernal Equinox, George.

With SOU really not having anyone to play in the NAIA or in D2.  If they asked, would the NWC ever let a school like SOU join the conference?

Zero Chance.  The NWC presidents where pretty hesitant to let Menlo in as football only and they are also a private.  Redlands has a better chance to win a playoff game than SOU would have to be allowed in the NWC.

With Pacific and George Fox bringing back football, it would be great if Whitman College did the same, the Missionaries are the lone holdout in the NWC. This was brought up some time ago, Whitman terminated football in the mid 1970s, primarily for financial reasons. Don't know if we have anyone in Eastern Washington here, but I wonder how much interest has been expressed recently in this idea. Are facilities a major roadblock along with a financial plan?

coco

No idea on that, but as good as it would be to have another conference game, it  would add another a brutal road trip. Whitworth is no picnic, but when we played College of Idaho and Whitman, it was horrible, not that we ever had all three as away games in the same season.

This year with Pacific is going to be NICE!

As brutal as travelling to Mary Hardin-Baylor or Redlands?  ;D

I'm going with the 2009 Cats!  I just don't think the '92 team would have seen the type of spread option offense with the capability to throw as well as the '09 Cats.  Coach Smith might have got a few fades caught on em by those tall outside kids they had this year (Patterson/Slezak).  And I think the real factor would be the speed of the '09 defense.  It would be pretty tough for them to run the option against a disciplined and speedy defense.  It would be a close one but I say '09 31-21.
Savage Storm is on the move in the Lone Star Conference!

I agree with catback4 on this one. Those players from the 1992 team are 40 plus years old today. The younger 'cats from the 2009 team would run circles around them.  ;) :D

D O.C.

Traveling to Texas and Redlands was by plane. The Whitman,WA, and Caldwell, ID, trips were bus rides.

I believe it was the equipment manager's job to awaken coco to tell him the bus had stopped for a leg stretch whereby coco would then improve his sleeping position having never left the bus.

coco

Plane trips and long bus rides are vastly different.

Great clips as always, 11. It's fun to  see these again.
