That will probably help them sway the minds of a few student-athletes who might have otherwise been turned off by the stadium.

It's really a beautiful setting for football up on the hill.  The new style turf will be a very nice upgrade for the Pios.

Completely understand after things falling into place during last year's West Coast Swing if there are no plans for one this year.

What weekends are looking like 3 games in one day again? Or a Th-Fr-2 Sat? (you know how cranky one can get since it's much more than just being a fan at the games)

Indeed, I haven't looked at one in that direction this year because I was able to make the trip last year. I'm making two car trips to NE Wisconsin in the first two weeks (St. Norbert opening a new stadium by hosting St. Thomas, then UW-Oshkosh hosting Mount Union) and beyond that I have made no firm plans.

There are some games on Thursday, Sept. 2, that I would love to be able to attend but the closest is Dubuque vs. Rockford (five hour drive or so) and I don't picture that being much of a contest.

over the past few seasons, UW-Stevens Point has been the #2 team in the WIAC. They gave UWW their only conference loss in 5 years.

I notice that they play Willamette for a non-conference game in September...What does the NWC faithfull think about this game? predictions? I think it should be a good game.

It should be an excellent game.  Willamette and SP are going to be damn good this year so it should be a huge win for who comes out on top.

I looked at Willamette's schedule...wow, what a tough road early on!! they could possibly start 1-3. it'll be a good test for them though.

Also, the college has made their re-branding initiative official this week.  Good to see but with that came an "update" to the Wildcat logo.  Very minor changes and the most visable are to the eyes.

Personally, I would have just had them leave the logo alone.  There was nothing wrong with it but I'm not going to break out the pitch forks and torches.  I think the update is a great compromise considering the earlier version that was presented.  I can live with a change to the eyes.

Do you think that cross-eyed wildcat will be able to catch passes? ;D

It's a brutal schedule.  According to some very well-informed people who know things, we're running into the same difficulty Linfield had for a number of years - the SCIAC won't play us anymore.  Additionally, our two year deal with Concordia-Moorhead was up, and I honestly don't think either side was terribly anxious to renew it.  Which leaves us with @ UWSP, @ HSU, and vs. Southern Oregon for our non-conference slate.  I would be really disappointed - but not shocked at all - if we were 0-4 to start the season.  If we can come out of it 3-1 though, we're very much in the playoff hunt.*

02Warhawk - I've never seen UWSP play.  From their results, it looks like they're a team that plays a "grind it out" kind of game.  Can you enlighten us any?

*Of course, if we're 1-3 but that win is over Linfield, we'll be in the playoff hunt too ... and I'd be okay with that.

Like Southern Oregon, they're not D3, but what about Willamette playing Eastern Oregon, if both schools need a game in the future?

Eastern Oregon has 10 conference games (they play a 'double round robin').  And they don't have any trouble scheduling that one non-conference game with Southern Oregon in the NAIA.

We played you the last 4 years?? You guys were more than a tough opponent, even in your down year in 2006 it was still a tough game. We for some reason never matched up with you guys well. With your 5 DB zone set it shut down our spread passing attack, and with our lack of a running game those first 3 years against your mammoth LB's we were stuck spinning our wheels drive after drive. Our Defense played your silly running game well, but would always get caught with big hits over the top on play action.

I can't blame CLU for "trading up" to Linfield. Though you guys were on the up and actually at the top of the NWC at the time we made the deal with Linfield for the 2009 season... at the end of the day it is Linfield, and we found out the hard way the ONLY way to get any sort of national recognition and have a shot at an at large playoff nod was through playing a team like Linfield.

If I could say drop PLU and pick up Willamette I think no doubt that would be great but the CLU-PLU Lutheran connection runs too deep I guess...

What happened to Whitworth? I remember them as a pretty strong team, like a Redlands (meaning always getting 3rd place ;D)... they scheduled a bunch of SCIAC games when they were pretty good but then kind of fell off...

I guess scheduling is sort of a crap schute. You can try to predict how to strengthen your list of non-confernce but a team could take a dive that season...

I don't know that the SCIAC would help your cause unless it were oxy, redlands, or CLU on your schedule. A tough schudule can kill you if you lose 2-3 games and don't win conference, but if you can steal a few big wins early you could be riding nicely to an at large game.
