Ah! but that's a different shade of grey/gray.

I used to like to watch the Blue and Gray game back when it meant something.

"...grey/gray Grey became the established British spelling in the 20th century, and it is but a minor variant in American English, according to dictionaries. Canadians tend to prefer grey. The non-cognate greyhound was never grayhound. Both Grey and Gray are found in proper names everywhere in the English-speaking world."

Pat:
The inclusion of the play of the week is an excellent addition to the D3 Football home page. Thanks for adding it. I hope to see some of wildcat11's (obvious blantant unashamed plug :D) great video work uploaded there in the near future.

Thanks -- I hope we get some Linfield entries. I know they will be better quality than some of the stuff we've gotten.

I would like to see the tipped pass by CLU that was run back 90 something yards by CLU. That was the game winner.
Aaron Boheme did a great job to redeem himself and took a hard hit as a defensive back. He slowed the ball enough (sorry whoever caught him)  as he was stopped before he scored. CLU did score right away.
That was the difference.

Aaron Boehme pass intercepted by Brett Lewis at the CLU2, Brett Lewis return 97 yards to the LC1 (Chris Slezak).

I'm sure clu and especially Lewis would love to see it also. I for one never want to witness that again. ;)
Props to Linfield Wildcats wide receiver Chris Slezak for not giving up on the play. There's a player with heart!

I did ask Cal Lutheran on Monday if they had something but they weren't able to turn video around on a dime. Teams will need a few weeks to get used to this being available and it running early in the week. But deadline on Monday night and publication Tuesday early is the schedule we intend to keep.

That reminded me of a play from Willamette's season-opener against Concordia-Moorhead two years ago.  The Bearcats were ahead 28-13 in the fourth quarter, but the Cobbers had first and goal on the Willamette 7 with six minutes left.  Jeff Kahler picked off a pass in the end zone and returned it 100 yards to seal the game.

It should be a barn-burner in Salem this weekend.  SOU is really good this year.  They're 2-0 for the first time since 2001, and they're ranked for the first time since 2004.

That's good enough for me when our Cat's are on a bye week.

Hey GHC: What happened in the Cal Lu parking lot on Saturday?  Did you have to sacrifice your precious Blue Jug?  I hope you stood your ground and didn't walk away into the game sober & with your tail between your legs...

The word on the street is he did not take his eyes off the badge commander, but lifted the red cup to his lips, took 30 seconds to down the 16.9 cup. Then with the cup as a megaphone, let out a proper "Gurp" before moon walking backwards to a trash can and letting go with a sky hook and a "Count it!"

The mental images from that story is...well...really special.
The earlier image of "Scorched Earth"(dead grass & Unholy water) was also good
reading.  If it weren't for the outcome of the ballgame it would all be a lot funnier.

Fellow posters. I have never heard of schools paying other schools to play them in football. This is not "television" money. I read the following story in the San Diego Union Tribune.

SDSU's schedule a lesson in profits, losses
Aztecs to earn $800,000 from playing at Missouri Saturday
By Brent Schrotenboer

Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 5:37 p.m.

SDSU is 0-22 against teams from college football’s elite six leagues and Notre Dame since 1999. On Saturday, SDSU plays at another such team: Missouri of the Big 12. Michigan payday to boost SDSU budget.

For a “profit” of $5.3 million, San Diego State agreed to schedule 22 games in the past 10 years against teams from college football’s high-rent district.

Its record in those games: zero victories, 22 defeats.

The average score:Goliath 31, SDSU 12.

But was it worth the money? For playing the game, Missouri will pay SDSU $800,000. Same goes for next year, when SDSU has agreed to play at traditional powerhouse Michigan for $1,016,800.

Here's the link to the rest of the story:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/sep/15/sdsus-schedule-lesson-profits-losses/

This information was completely new to me. Does this happen at all levels of play in the NCAA? The author states by playing Michigan, San Diego State will receive more revenue from that one game than from what they would take in from a whole season of ticket sales. I really found this to be interesting. Any comments?

It does happen at all levels. In Division III, a guarantee is sometimes paid to schools when they enter into an uneven contract (aka, no return game or no home-and home).

It happens very frequently in Division I FBS, where schools will buy home games to put butts in the seats.

What did you think a school like Portland State got out of playing road games at Oregon and Arizona State?  Those are huge payout games which will provide a nice chunk of their budget for the year.

This is very, very common at the Div 1 level.  Money is king and a big dog like Texas will always have more home games than a barely FBS school like North Texas or Utah State.

Speaking of 1AA schools like Portland State, I wonder how many of those FCS schools are making money. It would be interesting to discover how many D2 and D3 programs are profitable. There was a troubling report which stated only around 20 FBS schools are actually making money. It's my understanding Portland State which more successful both on and off the field when the Vikings were a D2 program.
