Proud Papa Joe

Hey Gig nice to have you back. How's it feel? Congrats Grandpa.

CatDad- See you saturday and a few more after that.

And a big Thanks to all those that served and exspecially to all the Wifes that stayed home and took care of the family. They are the greatest. God Bless you all, even you Pio. I will be checking in next year to see if you are still active.

I tend to agree with 11:

PLU Does wierd things at Sparks...

I witnessed it 2 times in my career, in 06' and 08'. Both years PLU was not "up to par" in terms of the SCIAC and NWC teams but they always played us very tough (we squeeked out small margin wins both years), and Sparks is just sort of a wierd type of feeling place ... can't really explain it. Always wet and cloudy, the PLU fans are loud but OVERLY RESPECTFUL, the visitor's locker room is under the stands in a big cement jail cell looking area that makes you depressed, and the players mind warp you with their super duper nice and positive attitudes during the game.

I got laid out by a linebacker, and while any other team in the NWC or SCIAC would have let out a bunch of OOOOOO's while the dude stood over me, he simply helped me up, slapped me on the butt, and told me next time I am going to have a chance to get him back - fair and square... They say thank you, high five you, and tell you good luck on the next play... It is a nice gesture but MAN it throws you off. They are a bunch of hustle adicts that fly around and jsut some how make it work, while maintaining the utmost of manners at all times  :D :D :D

And don't even get me started about this year, I'm just glad I wasn't there.

I'm going with the Lutheran Brotherhood with this one ... Putting the Sparks Spell on the Bearcats and coming out with a good old Lutheran victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. Not that it matters, they are just happy to be out there with each other... :-*  ;)  :D

Gig harbor kitty:  You are really going out on a limb calling this game in favor of Linfield.  Whew!

No comparison!  Crazy talk.  The stats and the NWC coaches might beg to differ. When they are announced Co-Offensvie POY get back to me.

While its completely pointless to lament about the screwed up playoff selection, I thought I'd share a little snippet from Keith's Around the Nation column, where he ranked the best teams he's seen play this year. At #2 was UW-Steven's Point. Keith had this to mention at the end of the description:

"If Willamette beat this team, and has no shot of making the playoffs, we definitely aren't getting the best 32 in."

Bearkittychatter: I sent Keith an email informing him that L&C scored 24 points in the first half against the Willieametttte 1st string defense along with my prediction for this weeks game against PLU.

"If willieamette makes it to the playoffs, we definitely aren't getting the best 32 in."

And I am sure Linfield would not have wanted him for the next three years.

No...we have a couple coming up that are strong.

This has been extremely amusing but you know what they say about arguing on the internet.....(fill in the blank)..... i'm always amused at the disrespectful things people will say with anonymity of the internet

Two things to keep in mind.... nothing said on these boards will influence one bit on the decisions that coaches make...

and once again... what happens on the field is all that matters and the fact that Linfield gets at least one more game is what the boys all play for...

Now i'm sure that Archie Manning was an outstanding QB... up until Brees the best that New Orleans had ever seen... maybe even better than Joe Montana... who knows.... different supporting casts.... but I'd still want Joe leading my team.... just saying... :-)

As my days wear down as an active participant on the boards I want to thank all the guys on here that have made positive comments about all the men that play NWC football...

It's been a GREAT ride for my son and the experiences will last him a lifetime...

GO CATS!!!!

Nicely said. Knowing what it takes to play at the college level, your son along with the players on each team, deserve respect. These guys work hard to do what they do. Personal attacks are way off base. You can be critical of a play, a call, a coaching philosophy, or a post, but we should all stay away from personal attacks. It doesn't help anything. I know 'cause I've made the mistake of posting some a few years ago. Good luck to the Wildcats this Saturday. I'll be watching from down here in Peoria, AZ.

Interesting to me that your anger against the Linfield posters manifests itself in nasty comments about Willamette.     Something to think about.   RE: Wu's nasty fans -- did you happen to notice the L&C fans yelling at our players during the game?    It was something.

P.S.  You might want to check your spelling -- It's WILLAMETTE, like the river that runs through Portland.   You're a L&C supporter -- you should spell correctly.

Sorry to inform you....but it's never been about getting the best 32 teams into the playoffs......it's about the phony balogna, politically correct NCAA's way of forcing on society what they consider to be "perfect".  It's about participation.....because according to the politically correct types, everything in life must be fair...it's not right for one group of football players or whatever, to be able to excel over others....that's unfair in their way of thinking.  It's the exact type of thinking that says that America and Americans are not exceptional....that if we just share the wealth and educate everybody then everything and everybody will enjoy a perfect and fair utopian world.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Thanks R&P  I appreciate it... perhaps when we get down to the house in Goodyear we'll have to get together for lunch...

Having played on a national championship team at MHCC (back in the day when CC football was flourishing) football at any level is a great experience when you work hard... it's all relative and just as rewarding at whatever level you play at....

GO CATS!!!

I think you'll enjoy this.  ;)

No PlayerLeft Behind (Not my own. Borrowed from Teacher Jay's Web Blog)

    1. All teams must make the playoffs and all MUST win the championship. If a team does not win the championship, they will be on probation until they are the champions, and coaches will be held accountable. If after two years they have not won the championship their footballs and equipment will be taken away UNTIL they do win the championship.

    2. All kids will be expected to have the same football skills at the same time, even if they do not have the same conditions or opportunities to practice on their own. NO exceptions will be made for lack of interest in football, a desire to perform athletically, or genetic abilities or disabilities of themselves or their parents. ALL KIDS WILL PLAY FOOTBALL AT A PROFICIENT LEVEL!

    3. Talented players will be asked to workout on their own, without instruction. This is because the coaches will be using all their instructional time with the athletes who aren't interested in football, have limited athletic ability or whose parents don't like football.

    4. Games will be played year round, but statistics will only be kept in the 4th, 8th, and 11th game. this will create a New Age of Sports where every school is expected to have the same level of talent and all teams will reach the same minimum goals. If no player gets ahead, then no player gets left behind.

    5. Coaches will receive an entirely new team for every game with whom they have had no previous contact.  They will not be allowed to select their players, or even ensure that they all play at a similar proficiency level.

    6. Although four quarters of a game are required to be played in order for the game to be completed, the score at the end of the third quarter will be used as the final score.

Does that mean BSU should have a chance for a national title this year? nevermind

Piodaddy, although you rant and rave a bit here and there, i respect that you are bringing some numbers to try and back up some of your platform.  You have a good point about White and his stats when they only average 2 yards a carry.  Tangible stats don't always tell the whole truth or which player might be a better athlete but then again once you start to select All-Americans  from amongst 100s of candidates who you haven't seen play, you tend to rely heavily on pure statistics (i'm making an assumption).  Because the selection committee for the NWC POY will have seen all the candidates play, I think they will choose the better QB, not just the one who has the better stats.  Who that is, I can't say with certainty as i've only seen Boehme play and I'm super biased, but I hope it's him.
If he is selected and is then up for All American status, I'm not sure his stats would support it even though he may be one of the best athletes, unless he leads the team deep into the playoffs where many of the All AMerican selection committee will have a chance to see him in action.
The greatest part is, this Saturday neither qb will be playing for POY status but instead for a team win.  Go Cats!

The single weirdest day of my brief reporting career was the one last summer where I interviewed Tully and Westering back to back.

It was really weird.
