I think either Willamette or PLU could beat Bethel.

I'll let Warthog speak for the Willamette scenario.

As for PLU, who knows. But the Lutes only won 27 - 20 against MIAC doormat Hamline (1-9). Bethel beat the Pipers 52 - 0 and allowed only 18 yds or total offense to the 584 they gained. So yeah, we can't say for certain until they play on the field, but if I was a betting man...I'd put money on the Royals.

Of course after Saturday's victory over UST, the logical question might be, could Linfielfd even beat Bethel??  ;)

I'll say it till I'm blue in the face but PLU this year was a completely different team on the road than they were at home.  At home: handled CLU, Whitworth, beat Willamette, and gave Linfield all they could handle.  On the road, the 'Lutes struggled vs poor teams....they even were in a battle at Pacific before putting the Boxers away.  If PLU went to Bethel then I would take the Royals 10 out of 10 times...at PLU it would have been a different story.

Which certainly sets up an interesting scenario for the Lutes next year when they have to visit CLU, Whitworth, Willamette, and Linfield.  Every year, one NWC school gets an incredible home schedule.  This year it was PLU.  Next year, it's Willamette.

Fun side note: for those who didn't know, the NWC has the conference schedules up all the way through 2013 at this link:

Looks like Linfield, L&C, and UPS already have their 2011 schedules figured out, and Willamette will welcome George Fox into the NWC in 2013.

Not sure about this, I'll have to defer to BCChatterer however I do know that L&C would have peed on your field. ;D

FarAway, as much as I wish I could comment on the matter, BCP is the man for the job. I'm in essentially my first year of NWC football, and while I've picked up a lot, I have yet to study other conferences.

I wouldn't be suprised if you saw Menlo drop off the UPS schedule. They decided to play Pacific Last year twice instead of deal with Menlo. Should be interesting since that game falls right after the pacific game. Manbe anothert SCIAC team on the slate.

Do any of you think your respective schools will drop Menlo as well?

Apparently Boehme's hurdle of those UPS defenders was on Sportscenter today.  I missed it but multiple people confirmed it.  Congrats Mr. Boehme on that ESPN run!

Terrific!  In what context was it shown? Any more info?  Links?

OK, I'm ready for a major depletion of my karma.  I just have to say, I was embarrassed by the behavior of Willamette fans and their football team when I visited Linfield this fall.

I was standing near the track when the team came out for the second half.  Now I'll admit the coaches left the team to head to the sidelines and left the players to have some bonding time.  That aside, there were little kids and grandparents around when the Willamette captains gave the pep-talk to the team.  It was laced with enough MFers (describing what they thought of Linfield) and other F words that it would make a sailor blush.  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this language exists as teams get themselves fired up, however I would assume most D3 private colleges limit this verbage to the locker room rather than on the edge of the field where it can be overheard by parents, grandparents and little kids.  I lost any respect I ever had for Willamete at that time.

Beyond the reprehensible behavior of their team, the Willamette student/fans were as unsportsmanlike as their football team.  I would love seeing every other team in the NWC kick ass against Willamette for the next ten years.  While I was only around 250-300 Willamette students that day, my observation was: what a bunch of low class individuals make up Willamette's student body.

I'm sorry you feel that way about my alma mater, warthog.  Best of luck to your Knights next season.

logger54 - I think you'll see Menlo coming off a couple of NWC schools that have them scheduled for next year, including Willamette.  It'll be interesting to see if the Bearcats are able to find an in-region D-III school to fill out Speckman's preferred ten-game schedule.

Warhog, I'm actually curious to know what about the behavior of the Willamette students offended you so much. I'm not going to turn this into a he-said/she-said game. However, I do feel like I deserve the right to defend my classmates.

Exactly where did you witness or interact with Willamette students who you considered an embarrassment? (sidenote: to be embarrassed, you would have to be a Willamette fan yourself). If you happened to walk over to our student section, what exactly did you hear? Maybe selective hearing is in place for Wildcat fans, for I myself was standing in the bleachers directly behind Willamette's sideline, to be passed by 3 Linfield students, one who issued the ever-pleasant phrase "F*** the F***ing F**s from Willamette!!" Not only in front of, but directed AT, parents and children.

I do not think that this individual's heinous actions are representative of the entire Linfield community whatsoever, and I think it is terribly unfair to judge students in the midst of an intense rivalry based on whatever you did or did not hear. We all have a lot of stake in the WU-Linfield rivalry, and temporary moments of frustration do not reflect one's character. As far as the Willamette players, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the way Speckman molds his players to fit that same level of classiness. Again, this is one of the most contentious rivalries in the NWC. Furthermore, your point of "Small-private school" is devoid of any worth; football is football, no matter where you're at man.

If you'd like, I can personally introduce you to all of our captains, all of which epitomize class. After being heckled and jeered by three rows of Linfield fans on my way to the visitor bleachers, I can't legitimize your claims concerning a lack of class at Willamette. We all love football, we are all passionate about it, and slip ups by individuals should in no way be an overarching stereotype for Willamette.

I'm sorry if someone wearing Willamette gear personally offended you, and hope we have the chance to change your mind in the future. GO BEARCATS!

I'll throw in my two cents here. The Warthogs were with us that day and Warty was wandering the sideline and sitting in various spots. He is the nicest guy, with no dog in the Willamette/Linfield fight, and no reason to exaggerate. For quite a while he sat in the Willamette section. I believe there was also an incident involving one of the security people and some rowdy Willamette students.

No one doubts Speckman's efforts, and I personally have great respect for him. He's an outstanding coach with a witty sense of humor. Warthog said the coaches were not around when the players were using the profanity. We know guys talk that way at times, but in front of spectators, and by numerous players is not cool. I doubt Speckman would have approved.

Actually one could be embarrassed by simply being a fan of D3 football in general.

Perhaps it wasn't the captains who were in charge of the half-time speech prior to returning to the field.  It was however a few players who were willing to take the lead.

Oh yes, I intend to be back some day.  I actually had a marvelous time.  I met many wonderful Linfield and Willamette fans.  I was surprised by the actions of the Willamette team at halftime.  The behavior of the students was nothing directed personally at me.  It was just some rather rude behavior that actually impacted other Willamette fans that appeared to include grandparents, parents, little kids and other students.  I was on the move throughout the game so I was for the most part simply observing.
