I've asked politely twice now, and I'm going to ask again - drop this.

I am a loyal Linfield Wildcat fan. To me there is no other University/College that can match them. Have they always won? No. Have they had their share of unruly players/students? Of course. But my sentiments run deeper than that. I don't over look the "problems" I just appreciate more the hard work it takes to have a successful D3 program.

I watched most of the game.  Maybe it was just the matchup and good D but neither of these teams look very good.  How the heck did you guys lose last week.  I'll be rooting for Bethel next week but I'm thinking Mt. Union in a blowout.

Isn't that something? What a difference a week makes. Just shows "Why they play the game".
I'm watching the Oregon vs. Oregon State game. Already three turnovers in the game. One for the Beavers and two for the Ducks. It's still early in the 1st Q.

Lest we forget:

1941 Willamette Pearl Harbor Footbal Team

As long as Americans remember Pearl Harbor, Willamette's 1941 football team will be in the minds of Salem-area residents and followers of the University. For many people, head coach Roy S. 'Spec' Keene's Bearcat team and Pearl Harbor go hand-in-hand.

On the gridiron that year, the bearcats forged an impressive 8-2 record; including six shutouts.

Thanks for posting that.  It was a very interesting story.
On a rather sad note, today's local paper had an article about the Pearl Harbor Veterans Association.  They are meeting in Hawaii for their annual convention this week.  One of the items on the agenda is a proposal to disband.  Only 3,000 of the original eligible veterans still survive and it is getting harder for them to be active participants in the orgaization.  (Most members are over 88 years old) Only 200 will be at this year's meeting.
Assuming the 1941 Willamette football team was made up of 18 to 22 year old boys, one would speculate the same situation exists.  Are many of them still living and able to take an active role in the keeping this interesting part of the college's history alive?

I tuned in for a bit and when I was watching/listening  heard them say that Wartman and the WR with the hard to spell name were both out of the game---that would certainly make St. Thomas look bad.

Baby14 sums up just how WC11 was feeling today with no Linfield football.

They both played the first time around, when BU was missing a few starters and UST won 10-6. Today we lost our starting left guard (2nd team All MIAC) and starting OLB (1st Team All MIAC, but just for stretches). All in all, I think these two games reveal that both teams where very evenly matched. FWIW, Wartman wasn't nearly as effective against Bethel as Tobin this year. I actually just assumed they'd decided to go with Tobin all game and was surprised to hear he was hurt. Waldvogel was a loss, but that's the risk you run with a smallish WR. He got knocked out of the game in the first half on a great hit by the DB.

MC, That's true I noticed both those guys out for St. Thomas.

Hazzben, good luck to your guys next week, if I get a chance to check in I'll be pulling for the team from the "West".  I'm also partial to teams from Minnesota and sense it doesn't look like the Vikings are going anywhere I'll have to hop on the Bethel Bandwagon.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. This is amazing.
That was cool.  On a similar note today we rented the local pool for my second sons 6th birthday.  You get one hour in the pool and then one hour in the bleachers and another group gets the pool.  The group after us was all young adults, possibly from the local job corps center.  They spontaneously joined in to the singing of happy birthday to my son.

Merry Christmas to all.

Warthog, just going to be blunt here. Your response to my questions seemed pretty mild after spouting off with extremely rude claims like "a bunch of low class individuals make up Willamette's student body." I am a Willamette student, and I take serious offense to that. You're entitled to your opinion, but maybe you should rethink exactly how you verbalize thing and in which medium you decide to do it. That's part of being mature. I'm not starting any fights here, but claims like those are completely unnecessary.

If you were so direly offended by the actions of Willamette students, I'd suggest you send an email to either our Athletic Director, Mark Majeski, or our President M. Lee Pelton. Posting something so rude on a message board (intended for discussion of Football, that is the game in between the sidelines and endzones) makes you look utterly foolish. Kill my karma for saying it if you need to, but some lines of mutual respect on these boards must be upheld. I don't know why it took you over 2 months to post your interpretation of the game, but your message was not timely, either.

To quote Pat Coleman's signature, "Let's discuss (sports) in a positive way, sometimes kidding each other with no disrespect." I feel disrespected by the insensitive way you said what you said, not to mention the post was in no way about "sports." Posting this on a message board (where no one who has any power to do anything about the situation will EVER EVER read it) either dictates you're looking to start fights, or just seriously lack any class of your own.

I hope you see the error in your post, and even consider deleting it. We're all trying to get along here (as much as fans of opposing schools can), not taking cheap shots.

Chatter,

This post makes me laugh. Being the newbie that you are, you probably aren't aware that Warthog is one of the elder statesmen of the boards, and a respected one at that. For years he has been visiting the NWC board and we have been doing the same on the IIAC board. It's been a good relationship. Linfield played Wartburg 7 and 8 years ago in the playoffs and several of us had the pleasure of meeting him in person then, as his son was a Wartburg starter. You couldn't find a nicer, calmer guy.

For you to lecture him as you did, tell him he's not mature, and that he should delete his post is hilarious. You're a student. You haven't been around these boards very long and you haven't seen any real fights. Pat has had to shut some boards down for a while because they've gotten so rowdy. What happened here was that Warty stated what he saw at the game and you didn't like it. He brought it up during a discussion about how Willamette would do against some other schools, and his dislike came out. No need to get your panties in such a wad.

I didn't like it when a tire on my son's truck got slashed when it was parked outside the stadium at a Willamette game a few years ago. Those things happen, and I'm sure the Linfield stickers on his truck had nothing to do with it.

Also, buddy, you don't know for sure who all reads these boards; and presuming that someone wants to start a fight because they criticize a few actions of your team is bordering on paranoid. Sometimes people really do behave poorly and make mistakes. It has happened at most schools.

Now I'll go read BCP's post about how he wants to drop this subject.
