Coco,
Thought I would make your research and reading a little easier.

. . . . .

When I read this my immediate reaction was "Oh, no.  Not again."

We've been through this back and forth over fan and team behavior many times.  It's no secret that there's no love lost between Willamette and Linfield.  Both sides can point to egregious behavior by the other's students and supporters.  Oh, yes, it's not one-sided.

It's tempting to respond in-kind but I don't want to do that.

Can't we all just put this stuff to rest?

I'm sorry you feel that way about my alma mater, warthog.  Best of luck to your Knights next season.

logger54 - I think you'll see Menlo coming off a couple of NWC schools that have them scheduled for next year, including Willamette.  It'll be interesting to see if the Bearcats are able to find an in-region D-III school to fill out Speckman's preferred ten-game schedule.

+k BP.  8-)

I am a loyal Linfield Wildcat fan. To me there is no other University/College that can match them. Have they always won? No. Have they had their share of unruly players/students? Of course. But my sentiments run deeper than that. I don't over look the "problems" I just appreciate more the hard work it takes to have a successful D3 program.

Plug in "Willamette Bearcats," and R&P has my sentiments down exactly.  +K.

Now let's drop this.

Lever Street - we'll see you at McCulloch Stadium next fall.

I've asked politely twice now, and I'm going to ask again - drop this.

Hazzben, good luck to your guys next week, if I get a chance to check in I'll be pulling for the team from the "West".  I'm also partial to teams from Minnesota and sense it doesn't look like the Vikings are going anywhere I'll have to hop on the Bethel Bandwagon.

Hazzben,

I'm on the Bethel bandwagon, too.

Good luck to you guys next weekend!

Let's have Bethel and UWW in the Stagg!

Plenty of room fellas! You can take the seats we save for a lot (but not all) of the SJU guys who can't ever bring themselves to cheer on another MIAC school come playoff time.

As for Bethel v. UWW in the Stagg. Hey, if we can climb the Mt next week - no small task indeed - we'd love a shot at clipping the eagles wings!

An All-West Region Stagg bowl would be pretty awesome. As it stands, I think the games have born out just how tough we all thought this region was at the start of the playoffs. 7 very evenly matched squads with nothing to hang their heads about. Here's to hoping we represent well in a few days.

My sincere apologies to: D.O.C., Bluenote, MonroviaCat, Criswyly, cawcdad and (509)Rat for your emails you sent to me over the past five years!!   I finally just found and read them.

I just recently discovered that we all have personal message pages in d3.com and can send private emails to each other!     YIKES!   No one ever said I was a computer geek.

I will do better, now that I understand a tiny bit more about this great website.

In the meantime, Wildcats, time to rebuild (reload)!

Haha, that's funny.  So when those guys told you to check your PM as in private message, what did you think they were referring to?    ;D ??? ;D

Baby14 sums up just how WC11 was feeling today with no Linfield football.

Great pic.  :D

WOW! Bethel just beat St. Thomas 12 - 7.

I watched most of the game.  Maybe it was just the matchup and good D but neither of these teams look very good.  How the heck did you guys lose last week.  I'll be rooting for Bethel next week but I'm thinking Mt. Union in a blowout.
I tuned in for a bit and when I was watching/listening  heard them say that Wartman and the WR with the hard to spell name were both out of the game---that would certainly make St. Thomas look bad.

They both played the first time around, when BU was missing a few starters and UST won 10-6. Today we lost our starting left guard (2nd team All MIAC) and starting OLB (1st Team All MIAC, but just for stretches). All in all, I think these two games reveal that both teams where very evenly matched. FWIW, Wartman wasn't nearly as effective against Bethel as Tobin this year. I actually just assumed they'd decided to go with Tobin all game and was surprised to hear he was hurt. Waldvogel was a loss, but that's the risk you run with a smallish WR. He got knocked out of the game in the first half on a great hit by the DB.

hazzben,

I will be sending you all of the good vibes that WC11 can muster.  Go Bethel!

Linfield fans,

Been doing some research on the Wildcat stats of the last 9 years.   A truly golden age, even for Wildcat football.   All of these teams finished well high in the national picture.

It should surprise no one that the 2004 and 2005 teams lead the offensive and passing numbers.    But, there are some surprises in the stats.   I will publish the facts later today or tomorrow, as time permits.

In the meantime, ponder these questions:

1.  Which team had the biggest point spread?

2.  Which team had the most yards difference?

3.  Which team had the best defense?

4.  Which defense had the best interception rate?

5.  Which defense had the best fumble recovery rate?

This year's team, despite two losses, compares well.

GO CATS! GO!

Well, I was on the UST bandwagon....but now I'll jump to Bethel, although I have very little confidence that the Royals can get the job done.  Personally, I am getting bored of the Stagnant Bowl.  Perhaps the NCAA needs to change a few rules to make it more competitive for the other schools.  As a PAC 10 fan I remember there used to be a rule that a teams couldn't go to the Rose Bowl two years in a row.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Good topic criswyly. I'm not a big fan of rule changes to make teams "...competitive." Exactly how do rules make a team competitive? Schools will just have to make improvements in recruitment, facilities, play etc.  What do others think?

Ahhhh, I can feel those Wildcat vibes already...we'll take all the Linfield mojo you can send our way!

T_Unit14

for all you stanford fans on here (are there any?) tell Coach Jim Harbaugh to show some class next time and not to put the Badgers at #8 and his Stanford team at #3...almost as classless as Danantonio and Saban putting MSU and OSU ahead of Wisconsin...

just wanted to put that out there with the talk of the Rose Bowl in an earlier post about the Stagnant Bowl...oh...and I'd want my coach to do exactly what Harbaugh did if I was worried too  ;D

I've given this some thought this past week as I see us drifting inexorably toward Purple Bowl VI.  I must say, I have enjoyed watching the Stagg Bowl on TV and have only seen the 5 latest ones, but I enjoy watching football at practically any level.  I don't see any reasonable rule changes to make teams competitive but I'm huge believer in home field advantage and would suggest leveling the field a little by not always having these two teams host every playoff game.  I realize that is happening this year with Whitewater.  I think though if the brackets are "seeded" then whoever wins the top two brackets should host, even if they are a lower seed in that bracket, meaning this year Mount would travel to Bethel.  Either that or get rid of the BS of which bracket is seeded higher and go with a rotating system for the regional.  I would take it further and say that at least the first round should be a rotating system of hosting.  That would require much more thought on a practical system but I'm sure it can be done.
