Putting finishing touches on the Willamette game for the Linfield highlight DVD and I thought I screwed up because I keep showing what looked liked was the same clip of WU's Brian Widing getting sacked.....then I realized Linfield put him down about 15 times that game and I felt better I didn't mess up.
Ouch...that stings!!!
You're not making any new Bearcat pals today buddyboy. ;)
That's OK.  11 doesn't have any Bearcat pals to begin with. ;D

I'm sorry. I should have never questioned Cal Lu's storied history. All of those conference championships and playoff wins. You'd think I was talking to an oxy alum.

If I'd have lost to Whitworth the one time I played them, I wouldn't schedule them again either.

If you were talking to an Oxy alum they would probably say the same thing. They beat Redlands 5 years in a row, same seasons Redlands was giving you the "monkey stomp". The NWC and SCIAC are very similar in terms of top to bottom teams and their strengths. At the top of it all - Linfield - I will not argue that a bit. BUT ... NWC is not stronger than the SCIAC as a whole, in my opinion.

Maybe we can get Cal Tech to bring back a football squad to send you up some even competition
:D :D  :o

2 conference loses in the last 4 years is a decent track record I would say....

K4...to support your theory why not take your poor weather surfing time and research the home-away scores of the conferences the last decade, see what happens.

Let's say, just for the heck of it, that the NWC and SCIAC were to do something like the PAC/MAC challenge, matching teams according to their conference finishes.  (Personally, I would LOVE this).  That would give us these matchups:

Linfield/CLU
PLU/Redlands
Willamette/C-M-S
Whitworth/Oxy
L&C/Whittier
UPS/La Verne
Pacific/Pomona-Pitzer

I'd feel pretty comfortable picking Linfield, PLU, Willamette, Whitworth, L&C, and UPS in those head-to-head matchups this (2010) season.  If we're talking about next year, I'd probably pick Linfield, Willamette, L&C, UPS and Pacific.  I'd hesitate to pick PLU unless the game were at Sparks.

The NCAA did Maynard and the SCIAC a huge favor by leaving out the NWC champ from the playoffs. All so the SCIAC could finally win a first round game...Redlands really dropped the ball on that one.

QuoteWe get that you may not all be in love with the matchup, but you won't get to see another Division III football game until next September.

Well, bells, I won't see this one either because ESPN chose to put it on a station I don't get. The wave of the future, pay to view? Or a match-up that has the rest of already limited audience yawning?

I would swap PLU and Willamette. Asll would be close games. Whitworth would drop to OXY

With finals over and back home with old friends and family our newest 2010 LINFIELD All-Americans can smile broadly knowing they put in all the work to OWN IT!
Congratulations to Aarons (yes), Eric and Drew!

Like DO.C. said...congrats to the 4 Linfield Wildcats for representing the 'Catdome and NWC.

Hedin named 1st team, Boehme, Heston, and Fisher all named 2nd team.  I think Hedin is in the running for D3.com defensive player of the year (named after the Stagg Bowl)

[can't let it go]Funny that D3.com can selected Boehme one of the two best QB's in all of Division III (over 230 teams) but our own stinking conference makes him share 1st team with two other QB's in a 7 team conference.  Nut up coaches and start doing our all-conference team right.[/can't let it go]

Mr. Ypsi

I've only seen each a couple of times (on the net, not in person) but that plus general board talk makes me think DPOY is between Matt Wenger of NCC and Hedin.  (Personally, I'm guessing Wenger, but Hedin would be a solid choice.)

Just costs a few extra bucks to watch it on cable.  The game was great - Mt Union couldn't handle coming back from behind and made mental and other mistakes that killed their chances in the second half.   Imagine, Mt Union didn't score a single point in the second half.  Was WW better prepared because they played a more competitive group of playoff opponents to get to the Stagg Bowl?

And Coppage was unstoppable - big plays and 305 rushing yards against Mt. Union?  Unbelievable.  I doubt if any defense in the West Region would have been able to stop him if he was playing with the same intensity as today.

As to the D3 All American selections, it pays to be on the conference championship team.  If the Wildcats had gone deeper in the playoffs, Boehme might have had a chance for the 1st team.

Congrats to the Wildcats who were chosen.   8-)
