A little disappointed in Linfield's attendance #'s...even though UPS had to have fudged their gate, there is no way the Catdome should average 2,000 fans...I expect more

Although it's not as sad as Kingsmen4's alma mater. Who can't draw more people than Whittier...fear the poets

CLU's attendance is a pure guesstimate. There are no ticket sales and people just come and go as they please on both sides of the stadium.

I have a Linfield playoff question from the past I'm hoping someone could help me with. In the 2005 home game versus Occidental, the Wildcats had the ball around the Oxy ten yard line or closer. The 2005 Wildcats had a great offense, but their running attack wasn't as productive as the 2004 club. At this point in the '05 game, the Tigers did something unique on at least one down.

When the ball was snapped, the Tigers defensive line did not rush the passer. Instead, they dropped into coverage slightly, joining the linebackers and secondary, who must have been near or in the end zone. I'm guessing the down and distance led Oxy to think Linfield wasn't going to even think about running the ball.  From what I remember, Linfield scored on a TD pass anyway, so this tactic was unsuccessful.

For anyone who was at this '05 game or was listening on the radio, is this account true?

The number on the Willamette game is terribly wrong.  There is no way there was only 2,800 at that game.  It had to be close to 4,500-5,000 (take a look at the Linfield/WU photos).  I have no idea why they never updated that number but that game was substantially more attended that the 3,276 game vs Pacific.

Then compacting the issues is that the CLU number is included into the home avg and the CLU number is "blank".  So you have 4 games divided by 5 and that weakens the appearance of that number even more.  It's one more reason I hope we drop Menlo...nobody cares about Menlo and those games have historically been the worst attended and this past year might have been the worst.

I actually checked the local McMinnville newspaper, and yes, Occidental did drop all 11 defensive players into coverage in that 2005 playoff game. It was a second down play, and Brett Elliott hit Brandon Hazenberg for a 12 yard TD near the end of the first half.

Steel,

Here is the video on that play in question.

Hazenburg was harder to guard than Allan. And maybe not as fast but more athletic than Tawney at Whitworth.

That post didn't really have a point. I just need 6 more posts so I can start singing logger fans on the bball board when they say stupid stuff.

Logger Fans...I guess they are rare around these parts but the same is true about 'Cat fans on the hoops board.  Thankfully Baseball season started!

Oops, I meant dinging not singing. Thank you autocorrect.

It will be interesting to see what kind of progress Whitworth makes (if any) with Ramsey at the helm again. He's young so kids like playing for him and his dads an MLB scout so he has access to all kinds of info about prospects (kids to go after recruiting wise), they could be good in another year or two.

Of course the bar has been set high at Whitworth with so many different sports having success on a national level... ;D

Nah, the Logger fans are still sround, 11, it's just baseball season.

Linfield is still way tough. They beat WOU, a strong D2 program, then lost against St. Martin's best pitcher and to one of the nation's premier NAIA programs. I admire Linfield's baseball program because they are not afraid of the challenge (kinda like football).

Whitworth is improved from 2010. I watched all four games of the split with UPS. The Rats are a good-hitting team, and they battle. Their pitching is suspect except for Perry, similar to the Loggers except for Robinson.

Ooops, wrong board.

As fake as a Redlands cheerleader's dad posting on this board boasting about an incoming Frosh QB being recruited by multiple D1 schools....

Only kidding:  No reason to believe that video is not fake/set up...I would imagine a number of those throws took multiple takes.  Fun video.

Jim Good hired as Redlands Offensive & Recruiting Coordinator. Looks like a good hire, hopefully he sticks around and helps build the program.
