Sorry George--no way a #2 NWC team gets a pool C spot this year unless that #2 team is Linfield and they lose the conference with one loss.  Here is why (I make the assumption that we don't end up with a big huge tie for the conference title)---If Linfield wins the conference (as many expect) that means the only possible 1 loss team (based on current records) is Lewis and Clark and they have not and will not have played anybody that will be close to a regionally ranked opponent. They won't even get a look (IMO).  Now if a team like Lewis and Clark manged to win the conference and Linfield finished second with 1 loss they might get a look but then they'll look at the cost of flying that team to Texas or Wisconsin in the first round and they'll make the decision they make every year and choose another one loss team within busing distance.  This may be an over-simplified and cynical view of things but this is how it tends to unfold...just ask PLU and Redlands 2010.....

MonroviaCat,

You are 100% right.   I didn't express myself well.  I was really thinking about 2012 and beyond, not this year.
I would like to see our whole conference win more non-conference games; like 60%+ win ratio.

Although unlikely that the Pios will win the conference this year, they have a good shot at being 6-0 if they get a few breaks.  Within the next three weeks, they play Pacific, Whitworth, and Puget Sound.  Pacific can't seem to find the secret of winning, the Loggers seem to be just plain bad, and Whitworth-- who knows which Pirate team will show up.   8-)

I just moved the river up to + 10 as a fattening up ploy.
Does losing to LINFIELD all the time hurt fund raising over in Salem?

Blow-outs like that probably help fundraising!

I'm getting a little nervous about this Saturday....at Willamette. The cross country meet may be taking up all the handicap parking spaces.  :P

Well, of course not the year the eventual All-American Qb broke his collarbone the first game of the year.
But then, again, he didn't play defense, did he?  ;D

The cross country meet should be over by noon -- football doesn't start until 4 p.m.   You'll still need to go early, but not because of Cross Country.

Wait, Bluenote doesn't have a reserved spot?  He's there more than most Willamette fans! :)

Keith McMillan mentioned CatDomeAlumni's Gameday Primer in his article today - are invitations required?  ;D

Ron Callan at KPAM 860 in Portland interviewed both Coach Smith and Coach Speckman last night in the "Northwest Sports Tonight" show (Hour 2). The interview is available here. It's after an interview with Dennis Erickson, and some MLB talk. The Coach Smith interview starts about 23 minutes into the 2nd hour of the show, and Coach Speckman's interview comes up after more MLB talk and "live look-ins," around the 34 minute mark of the commercial-free hour (45 minutes).

I didn't know Linfield had 4 teams entered into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame last night! Congratulations, Cats!

Looks like KPAM only keeps the current week's audio up on this page so you may have to search for it after this week.

The mildcats are favored this weekend.  When the Bearcats upset them, it will definitely increase fundraising for both teams!  Win-win both ways.   ;)

Does WU have the fortitude to stop the run for 4 quarters?

Will the specter of WU Woo be invoked that can get some runners by Drew Fisher and Nate Dixon?

Will George Fox win the cross country?

1) I hope so.  The defense has shown up pretty well this year.
2) Doesn't "specter" mean someone is dead?  Woo is alive & running, I suspect.
3) George Fox doesn't have anyone entered for XCountry at last check.  Maybe it hasn't been updated.  They are scoring that meet separately, by D1, DII, DIII and then the other race by NAIA & JC.   Kind of interesting.

My question.  Does Ron Callan really think Linfield has played TWO tough opponents this year?  Thanks for the link BearcatFan.
