Cats in a rout all the way.  We will be up by 28 at the half  WOU loses their cool and the second half gets ugly for them.

woufan: Predictably Georgia with its very high quality SEC players was too "big" for BSU's intense, quick, undersized PAC-10 rejects, and in the circumstances BSU lost its poise.Such things have happened before to others and will happen again. Nevertheless I find the general attitude of the BSU players and coaches admirable - BSU isn't supposed to be able to play with the likes of Georgia.

My impression of the Willamette/WOU game...Willamette got manhandled. Plus they couldn't pass the ball much or even run that well. Western is formidable, they are very large and fairly quick, probably more so than most DIII teams. So I assume Linfield will have their hands full this week. A lot will depend on the O-Line...whether they have any balls or not.

From reviewing the Linfield roster it appears that the Offensive Line is averaging about 275-280.  Which seems to be about usual for the Cats if not a little more "beef" than some years.  One  of the posters indicated that the Western Offensive line was huge and so therefore they simply pushed around the "little Bearcats".  From looking at the WOU roster it doesn't appear that their front 5 is much more than a 275-280 average.  Is that the case?
Of course, weight is only one part of the equation but it looks like the Wildcats front 5 isn't going to be pushed around by WOU.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

LaCrosse was HUGE and so was Rowan...in both cases size truly didn't matter.

Ok boys, 5 days until season opener.  Predictions?

Cats 42
WOU 17

Just made it back home a few hours ago after a weekend camping and have a few thoughts.  Not being at the WOU/Willamette game I have only the previous posts, game stories, and box score to go off on.

What I was not surprised about;

WOU pounding the ball.  They have two good backs and will want to limit the possible mistakes throwing the rock.  Sounds like that was accomplished.

WOU winning the game....I thought that Willamette would keep it close but didn't have a great shot.  They just lost A TON in terms of vets on their offensive and defensive line.

What I WAS surprised about;

Willamette getting blanked.  I was very surprised to see Willamette's offensive get dominated.  Your team has to have some discipline in order to control the Fly and it looks like WOU was very disciplined.

Only 2600 people where at the game.  Come on people....get out to the game!

In terms of the Linfield vs. Western game.  The Wolves are going to try to be physical and pound the 'Cats up front.  However, I don't think they'll have the same success on Linfield's defense as they did Willamette's.   ;)

Don't get me wrong this is going to a stiff opening game for the 'Cats.  If Linfield protects Elliott and limits the run game of WOU then it should be Linfield going away....but that's why we play the game!

Frank -- on the Georgia-BSU game, honestly, BSU kind of got what they deserved. Hate to say that, but everyone in Boise was predicting a BSU upset, the media, etc., were acting like it was a lock. I think the players were confident, not cocky, but not giving Georiga their due respect. I've already heard the "guaranteed" victory stuff over Oregon State. Boise is very isolated and many of the fans are delusional. Good program, not SEC caliber.

As for Saturday's WOU-Linfield game ... I say WOU hangs in there a little better this year, but still has a tough time in secondary coverage and getting heat on Elliott.

Linfield 38, WOU 24

* Only 2,600 for the night game in Monmouth? Disappointing. We need to market Salem and the area better ... among other things we need to improve on.

Foss

Wow, no points for Willamette. That's horrible. WOU has a ton of kids back and appear to be much improved this year, but they almost went winless last season and have a new coach. Willamette appears to be picking up this year where they left off last season. They need a big game against UMHB.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Ode to Linfield Golden 50

Twas as predicted
Torch passed SJU B.E.
Stagg 2004 walnut  and bronze Linfield
Now rests with Wildcats B.E.
O what joy
But no surprise to Catdome nation.
So sad UMHB
Played tough but purple & cardinal red
Prevailed indeed.
O how fast off season traveled
Nowbeit, a new day dawns on D3 kingdom
With prognosticators speak
B.E.'s Catdome nation to continue rule?
No sooner Cats begun to camp
The season is upon us.
Whoaaaaaa!!!
Reports...already...way ahead last season.
From east coast to left coast
All eyes on Orygun trail.
Travel reservations in the making
D3 Kick off it has written
Beware the Wildcats back to back
The new dynasty.
Huh...dynasty?
California claims the golden bear
Linfield is Wildcat Golden.
Players...one game at a time
Some fans look already November
Wildcats reload to begin the season
Best receivers corps in the nation.
Mr. Everything ready for defense.
Hawaiian valcanoes buttress D-line
With mountains in the middle.
Catdome venue will to rumble.
Depth chart...a bottomless pit?
Iron for breakfast, lunch and dinner
X's and O's make tidy snacks.
Will this be the greatest ever?
Or just the end of the first golden 50.

Prognostication
Enough nonsense already...now for the prognostication.
My heart says, "Yikes, this could be a tough game...I'm feeling nervous," course that's part of the fun.  But my football head is saying, WOU beat an undersized rebuilding Willamette...WOU's biggest liability is the new coach.  I don't care how good he is...a new coach is not likely to be able to have the wolves up to speed in such a short time to keep pace with Coach Locey...fielding a veteran laden team that has the guns to aim for Salem East.

There next liability...they're playing Linfield  The reports I'm hearing is that this years edition of the Cats "hit the ground running"...Of course, this game will be an excellent indicator.    My main concern is for everyone to stay healthy."
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

PLU News Article in the Tacoma News Tribune

Excerpts:

---"They're different people and it shows up in their coaching style," said senior linebacker Chris Linderman, a second-team all-Northwest Conference selection last season. "They both have the same philosophy about winning. Frosty was a laid-back, compassionate guy. Scott is really compassionate too, more disciplined."

---"This year I feel much more in a position to establish my program," Westering said. "And not feel like I'm looking over my shoulder or worried about how the rank and file are going to respond because it's vastly different to what they're used to."

---"I don't feel like we're rebuilding," Linderman said. "I feel like we're reloading. We'll look very much the same on the field as far as how we play."

ATTAWAY!!!!
