Rant: the NCAA is similar to the old fogey British Parliament that put into place the American Revolution. Occupy NCAA!!!!

I would sure like to hear the NCAA's explanation of this year's playoff fiasco.

1.    You really loaded up the Mary Hardin-Baylor bracket.    4 teams in the Top 8 nationally?    In one bracket?

2.   Now, you send Linfield to Wesley?     Why?

Record                        Linfield  9-0,   Wesley  9-1
Conference                  Linfield  6-0,    Wesley  4-0
Division III opponents    Linfield  9-0     Wesley  5-1
D3 national ranking       Linfield  #5,      Wesley  #7

East coast bias here?    Linfield should be the home team.    An undefeated team, with a long, storied history, will have just one home playoff game??

3.   It is unfair to compare strength of schedules between colleges.    West coast and Texas teams are at a distinct disadvantage.    The bulk of Division III teams can easily schedule tough teams within a six hour bus ride.

This is not true for the west coast or Texas teams.    It is quite difficult for us on the west coast to schedule tough teams, due to the high cost of flying a team to the midwest or Texas.    One game per year, maybe.   Two games, no, it is simply not financially prudent.

Therefore, the NCAA punishes west coast and Texas teams for this inability to schedule "tough" teams.   Rather unfair.

All of you people griping about the time listing should be aware that both the NCAA times and D3.com listings are EASTERN time zones, so a 3:00 PM listing would be 12:00 noon in the Pacific (McMinnville, etc.) time zone.
Another example of east coast bias. :-X

George I do agree with you but.....Of course we could have dumped Menlo (non D3) and invited or traveleled to Wisconsin, Texas, etc. (Willamette scheduled a Wisconsin and a Texas school)  to up our record we could also add a 10th game .....all this whining about not getting the home game is useless (especially on this board).  Cats have a big challenge ahead of them and I'm hoping to get to see it (if Pat can make the video happen).
Go Cats!

LuavilleCat

Let's face it, the NCAA has hedged its playoff expense budget by sending the CATS across country this week thinking they are preparing the stage for us to get beat. Their logic is simp. If they can help Wesley put the CATS out of the picture, they wouldn't have to pick up the tab of flying the CATS from Portland to Texas (December 3, to Ohio (December 10) and Virginia (December 16).

Much to their chagrin, this plan will backfire. We are Road Warriors. Moreover, Wildcatnation around the Chesapeake will rise up and flood the streets of Dover and cause gridlock unlike any other.

R & P and MC,
Thanks for the info, Watching the game as I type.

I'm in disbelief of the game site this week  :o but should have known.
Last year the Cats stumbled to start the year and come playoff time paid the price by having
to travel to balmy Minnesota. This year they took care of Business and still get @#%&^$!  ::)
I guess when you run the thing with no real rules or guide lines ( to decide the home team)this is what happens.  :-[ ???

Wesleydad welcome to the NW board, have fun and good luck.
O.K. I'm done ranting, On to the Task at hand.

As LuavilleCat has said, Rise up Wildcatnation! Watch these boys ride the winning wave east and bring home the Walnut.
One week at a time!

Go Cats!
One game at a time!!
Leave no Doubt!!!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

wesleydad

lua, that idea doesnt make sense, wesley wins they fly to texas also.  but they would bus to mount i believe.

monrovia, i will be the out of control, pompous, arrogant wesley supporter or at least that is what i have been accused of.  generally that is what happens when you have an opinion and voice it without sugar coating it.  i look forward to this week and getting some good insight into linfield and giving some into wesley, if i can.  from my initial view of the game yesterday, the wesley offense looks quite similar to cal luth's o.  we have a running, scrambling qb, who is not afriad to tuck it and run.  i thnk this will be a really good game.  actually i dont think linfield has a chance and they should just stay in oregon and save the ncaa money.  ;)  look forward to talking to you guys this week.

Now that Linfield's home football season is over I'd like to give a shout out to Dan Paulino (Cat running back circa mid-1970s) and Spencer Crepeaux (current pitcher on Cat's baseball team) for their work on the Linfield video productions this year. Dan operated the "overhead cam" and Spencer did the job with the "sideline cam." In addition, Matt Kine (current Linfield student) spelled Spencer on the sideline cam as that camera gets heavy over the course of a game. All are volunteers. While Spencer had some previous experience on the sideline cam last year, this was Dan's first year on the job as was true for Matt.

Thanks, Dan, Spencer and Matt, for all your efforts that supported the Linfield football program and Cat fan's everywhere. I know the folks who couldn't make it to the Catdome appreciated your efforts!!!!

OldCatProf...your secret is safe with me.

wesleydad...how many of those penalties yesterday with Hobart were personal fouls? How about all season long?

No chance? Perhaps, but we knocked out three (3) quarterbacks in one (1) game last year and we're quicker top to bottom than Wesley - not faster, quicker. You've been around long enough to know that counts for something over the course of a game.

LuavilleCat

wesleydad,

You need to know one thing.... there are two types of people in the world: those who went to Linfield, and those who wish they had  :)

It's going to be a fun week. I've always been intrigued with Wesley, and their caliper of football. Finally, we'll be able to get some answers.

Surely you jest UNLESS you are referring to Division III.

The University of Delaware went 15-1 in 2003 to win the NCAA I-AA.

wesleydad

doc, hope you didnt miss the tongue in cheek about the no chance.  the personal foul penalties have been an issue all year.  i think there were 5 or 6 yesterday.  totally unacceptable.  i get the quick point, just not sure you will be that much quicker than wesley.  i was impressed by #4 on your d while i was watching the video from the game yesterday, he looks like he could be real annoying to an offense if they dont account for him.

lua, lol, didnt know about linfield until my son started playing at wesley 7 years ago.  have been watching them each season be in the same general area of rankings as wesley has.

lastly, cant remember who asked about the conference.  it was 6 teams until the suny schools brockport and morrisville left about 5 years ago.  then salisbury and frostburg were given the opportunity to join the e8 to allow them to keep their aq so the league disbanded i think after last year.  despite the close proximity to many schools in the east, wesley has had several schools back out of contracts.  they have had good games with some teams in the mac and njac and i think they may be playing umhb and b-sc this coming year so maybe they will be able to fill out the schedule with d3 teams.

bluenote

I'm pretty sure CLU was a little better than Hobart so I'm looking forward to seeing how we do vs. Wesley. Wesley has put up some pretty big numbers this year...especially when they went up against Apprentice School (55-0). Is that like a college for plumbers or electricians?

Wildcat'64

Welcome WesleyDad.....you're going to have a little fun on this Board during the next six days.  We'll settle it on the field next Saturday but between now and then we'll have a little fun!

It seems to me the Cats should have been in UWW bracket so they could have played Kean in the second round.  Especially since Kean whipped Wesley during the regular season....that way we could play the best team from that neck of the woods....not the second best.  I don't understand how Kean could be rated #12 and Wesley #7 when Kean beat Wesley.  Maybe Kean doesn't have the pollsters in their pocket?
