MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! Hope the New Year brings you'all good fortune and a trip to Salem! It's been too long.  By the way, I've been to Alliance when they beat BC 66-0 and their enrollment is @ 1750, about same as BC. Got one of the best coaches, bar none.  And if anyone watched the semi-final,you could see that Wesley should have won.  It's just that Umu knows how to win. Luckily UWW has learned how to win as well.I know Linfield can do this because you'all have won thee. I enjoyed that game a lot!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

My wishes for 2012:

1) Big leaps for Pacific, Whitworth, and Willamette, and Lewinsky and Clark.
This means they get better and challenge the 'Cats for the NWC crown. I want to see Linfield at 5-0 after some tough games. The NWC hasn't held its own against top competition from outside the conference in the past several years. Better scheduling and successful pre-seasons = better SOS at playoff time.

2) 'Cat linemen eat well and lift well in the off-season.
Bigger, stronger, faster on both lines for next year. (Yeah, sounds like the Six Million Dollar Man) Hill and Inns need big talented guys to lead and protect the ball.

3) 'Cats/NWC get some of the big boys to schedule a home/away series.
We can't improve SOS on our own. Heck, I want a home/away with MUC (or MUU???). With the way the playoffs are seeded this will never happen on its own unless someone does it for the good of both programs. Better idea: Why doesn't the NWC schedule a challenge series with another conference? Help us out here, NWC! Our #1 against yours. Our UPS against your UPS! No more Lepers or Accidentals that we beat 56-3! No more FBS or division 2 games because that's all we can get. OAC, WIAC- are you up for this???

Pat and others on the board- you guys are great. Thanks for maintaining a fabulous site.

In 2012, Linfield opens at home vs Hardin-Simmons and then at CLU.  Flip that for 2013 and Fox will replace Menlo that year too.

Since 2002 Linfield's non-conference opponents have been:

Non D3: Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon, Menlo, Western Oregon.

D3: Redlands, UW-Stevens Point, Hardin-Simmons, Occidental, CLU, and La Verne.

Before the 2006 season, Linfield was "this close" to signing a deal with NAIA Azusa Pacific. That would have made the 'Cats only D3 games on the schedule come from NWC play.  Thankfully, Hardin-Simmons stepped into the picture and we had a great 4 year series with them that I'm happy to see back.  So, I'm of more of the thought to be thankful to Coach Widolff of Occidental for playing us in 2009 (Oxy was ranked #21 when we played them) and thankful for Coach Ankeny for signing up the Leos for a 2-year deal with the 'Cats.  Even during Linfield's 3 consecutive 6-3 seasons there were very few D3's willing sign on the dotted line to play Linfield and I'm expecting that to be the case beyond the 2013 season.

Great national front page article about Linfield football.

Absolutely, and sharp photography to boot. I haven't done all the research, but Linfield has also accomplished something significant when you compare the state of Oregon to all the other states in the nation. As we know, Oregon has a number of schools playing college football across different levels, including two Pac-12 schools. With four national titles, Linfield has won all the football national championships in the state of Oregon. It appears there are few non D1 schools which have won multiple national championships all to themselves for their respective states.

Kind of unusual when you think about it. Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. , have all had either FBS or different level schools sharing in the national title pie. Don't recall western states like Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, etc. ever winning a football national title on any level.

Carroll College is in Montana.  Also, the Griz won in 2001 and have 3 Championship appearances since then.

Oops---not sure how I messed that up.  I stand corrected (and I guess that means Steel Curtain's post was correct!) :)

Yes, Montana has won football national titles, but by two different non FBS schools. My guess is it's pretty rare for any other state to have a lone multiple national championship team outside the FBS level. Richmond won a FCS title a couple years ago for Virginia, don't know if that program ever won a national title before.
