I am glad to hear from a previous post that wou is not looking past the 'cats and have some respect for them. Good gracious. What kind of moron on Linfield's schedule would not respect them???

Oh, and as far as wou jamming the receivers and spooking Elliot- easier said than done. That kind of inside the box thinking is going to get you whupped by 5 td's.

It will be closer than last year, but not close. 3 td's.

BSU and there fans are so cocky, it was great to see watermelon boy Zabransky get it handed to him.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

MonroviaCat

I don't know who Pasadena Cat is but I'm just down the road in Monrovia.  I used to log on as SoCalCatFan before the new board came up.

Looking forward to sitting near the computer listening to the Cats slam Western this weekend!

:)
Go Cats!!!
Go Cats!

I'd  mix up the blitz on Elliott, but for God's sake, I would not give him a healthy dosage of blitz. He'll eat that up for lunch, dinner, and desert. Isn't Allen a 10.6 100 meter guy, too?

I'd be very leeery of over-blitzing ... but that hasn't stopped us in the past.

With all the Cats speed do you thing WOU will cut the grass this week? I think not! sounds like it will be a much better game this yr. but I'm with the 3 td spread...... Interesting first week, Rowan puts up only 21 points and over 600yds of offence. .....SJU hangs on to win and has 3 punts blocked! This is going to be a fun yr. "GO CATS" 50-05!!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

woufan

Good point on the grass, I wouldn't cut it either. We don't have a burner on the perimeter. If we lose by 3 tds I'd be disappointed. I'm sticking with my two TD spread:

Linfield 38

WOU 24

WOU,

I just don't see how Linfield's defense is going to give up that many points.  I mean WOU scored 28 on a crappy Willamette defense until a QB sneek with :03 left made the score 35-0.

Unless Linfield turns it over deep in their own territory and the Wolves' special teams score, I can't see the Wolves getting that many points on the Linfield's first defensive unit.

woufan

We won't score that many against Linfield's first team defense; we'll get a cheapy late against the second team. Always happens.

Wildcat'64

How many yards do the Cats accumulate thru the air and on the ground against WOU??? I see Rowan amassed 609 yards last week with a miserly 21 points.  I doubt that will be the case with the Cats but I suspect we'll have at least 100 yards rushing and 300 thru the air.  Any other thoughts for those of you who are closer to the action???
LEAVE NO DOUBT

Regarding the condition of the surface at WOU....it wasn't in very good shape.  Guys in the press box told me the other night that when the new track was installed, the university was told not to water the grass....and they took them a bit too literally.

There are some bare patches in one endzone and pretty short everywhere else.  I've seen worse fields for sure.   It won't be the ankle high stuff from UWSP and should not hinder Linfield's skill people.

Here's a link to a radio interview of Frosty Westering on naiafootball.net.  It's a good interview as they talk about Frosty's thoughts about coaching, etc.

On another note:
R.I.P. Fattie.....you flammed out a little quicker than I thought.  Tell Touchdown Tommy hello from me!

WOUfan, I know you have to take the brunt of the Wolve bashing and so this isn't directed at you. However, have you talked to anyone about the QB sneak with 3 seconds left against Willamette? That does nothing but slap another team's face. I watched the WOU-Willamette game last year and there didn't seem to be any hard feelings between the two squads where WOU would have needed to inflict some kind of payback. What do you know about your new coach and his philosophies? He gets off to a perfect start. In his first game he's up 28-0 and has an opportunity to start something at WOU. He can kick off the year with a win AND a show of class, which a number of those boys need to be taught. And what does he do? "Let's sneak it in as time expires, fellas."
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

woufan

No, I haven't talked to anyone about it. Personally, I'm against that kind of gamesmanship, whether it's my alma mater or rival. I'd take a knee and they should've.

The only excuse I could ever come up with that in a similar situation is if a fifth-year "Rudy" type player was playing his last game and you wanted to get him a TD. Even then, I'd be skeptical.

Considering we're going to be scrambling to fill out schedules the next few years, it's not a good idea to get one's neighbor pi$$ed off. I wouldn't blame Speckman if he boycotted us. I went to last year's WU game and I don't remember the Bearcats running the score up.

Then again I think I missed half the game because I was puking behind the stadium -- no, I wasn't drinking, I was watching the Wolves stink up the place.

Should've taken a knee, no doubt about it.

I think it would be ill advised to predict any type of score for the WOU/Linfield game. I myself will hold judgement untill I see the game and see the new Wildcat Squad (well...maybe I'd say 35-21 'cats!). I personally think WOU is much improved from last year and Linfield will need a strong performance to win. But I'm wondering if Willamette may be somewhat down also???....in any case, I  have a lot of faith in my 'Cats. They have the heart to win it even on the road, but must play well and be focussed. There aren't many teams that have the gonads to start the nseason vs. a DII team...Pat will confirm this with his statistical genious I'm sure!

DensLa....thanks for the roster! (or was that a call to duty?)

WOUfan, Yah, I just thought it was a nice opportunity for the new coach to send a positive message to the team, in addition to starting his career 1-0.

It looks like maybe you won't have to throw up as much this season. Seems you have just about everyone back which has got to help (already has), along with a great recruiting class. Looks like you have some good size on offense. A 6-5 QB (or 6-6, depending on the source) and a 6-7 TE isn't something you see every day.

I think last Saturday's game was a combination of WOU being better and more experienced, along with Willamette perhaps looking at having a long year. They are so unpredictable. Sometimes playing top teams tough, then folding to someone soon after. Because of this, they are now on pace to give UMHB a great game and overachieve, but we'll see if it happens.

<stretch> <yawn> Now that the Cats are finally ready to start the season, it's time to come out of hibernation (and reregister on the new board...).

Cats will roll on Saturday, though I suspect the Wolves will put up a wee bit more fight this year. On their turf, offense that seems to be a little better (improved running game), inspired by a new coach (who, admittedly has been in the program for a LOOOONNNNGGG time...) means a closer game.

That said, the Wolves won't be able to keep up with Elliott, Allen, Haze and the rest of the Cat offense. If I remember corretly, Elliott barely played three quarters last year, and expect a similar performance this time. Late Wolves TD against the Cat second and third team D makes it look closer that it really is...

Cats 45
Wolves 21

Elliott TD Passes = 4
Elliott Yards Passing = 375+
Over/Under on Wolves' Unsportsmanlike Conduct Penalties = 3
