Yeah guys, getting 10 DIII games and having the budget to travel to MN once, and CA twice is TERRIBLE...

Bussing to Menlo in an old school bus sounds a lot better.

We've had more than 10 games the past three seasons (you know...playoffs) and unless an old school bus is now called Alaskan Airlines I'm not sure what you're talking about. :D

Cats outta the bag now. Whitworth opens the season at St. Scholastica in 2012, then heads to Cali on consecutive weekend to play Whittier and La Verne.

Here's the release 2012 Schedule

Talk about a murder's row of opponents!  St. Scholastica, Whittier, and La Verne.  Yikes, hope the Rats roster can survive that onslaught of titans.   ::)

I'm glad for that St. Scholastica game. Not a problem by me.

Good schedule for Whitworth. They should be a much improved team this year with experienced QB's.
I am looking forward to the CU game up in Spokane. Probably will go up for a few days....really like the area!

Curious about why the Wildcats never schedule 10 regular season games when a 10th game shouldn't be a stretch.  Case didn't have any problems with scheduling LC.  There must be other good teams out there in D-III land that would be glad to play the Wildcats.

They are too cheap. It's that simple. Whitworth has played teams in Wisc, MN, Texas, PA, etc. I'll go ahead and give Linfield the SCIAC teams not picking up the phone...but plenty of others would.

Guess that's why we're flying to Ohio and Texas next season.  Keep trying Rat.

Yeah, it's so easy to find a 10th game.  All you have to do is schedule to play Pacific twice in one season.

Bearcat Press

Speckman had a longstanding commitment to scheduling a 10-game season every year, and I think Fowles is right to continue that.  In fact, the only season in the last decade where Willamette has played fewer than 10 games was in 2005, when L&C backed out of its conference schedule.

I don't particularly like playing Pacific twice (though the entire WIAC is doing something similar this year), but playing somebody local is a necessary budgetary constraint, and the series with SOU was ending.  What I do like is getting another home game (in a season where we're @Hardin-Simmons, @Linfield, @Whitworth, and @PLU), and having nine D-III games.

Now you know were not cheap, just afraid to finish 5-5 and break THE STREAK.

Geez. Linfield finally makes some changes and you pretend like they've been doing it all along. And nice job citing events from the future in regards to a post that asked why Linfield hasn't done something in the past...

Just make sure the AD squeezes a few pennies from the guys bball
budget so y'all can afford 2 flights next season  ;D

Since 1999 Whitworth has made 14 trips to California and 3 away from the West Coast (Wisconsin, Minn, Texas).  Linfield has made 11 trips to California and 3 away from the West Coast (Wisconsin, Texas twice).

Congrats on being such superior spenders on flight travel Rat.   ::)

Take away the Redlands games and level the field. We couldn't get them.

(509)Rat

I understand the difficulty that's involved with counting, but there is no excuse for looking at Whitworth's schedules and finding 14 CA trips when there has been 20 since 1999

I agree that it isn't really important in the grand scheme of things, but the conversation was about Linfield not having 10 games. That makes the fact that some team, who hasn't been the best program in the conference over the last decade, is able to afford to fly more often to fill a 10 game schedule relevant.

Take away Redlands and it still isn't close. Unless someone looked at Whitworth's schedules and counted 10 trips to Runner? And that's besides the fact that taking away Redlands has nothing to do with this discussion..."take away Menlo and Linfield has barely left the state"...the point is that it costs money to get 10 games in the PNW. When ONE team doesn't pick up you have to fork out $ to find another home-home series.

You have me dead to rights here.  Counted early in the day.....terrible recall on my part.  Busted

Quotebut the conversation was about Linfield not having 10 games

You're clearly trying to try to paint Linfield as "cheap".  When I point to the fact Linfield is taking two non-west coast trips next year you try to spin it back to "what have they done in the past"?

All that Linfield has done is take as many of non-west coast flights as Whitworth and tried their best to get into California.

If Linfield was really that cheap then I doubt that before the 2009 season the 'Cats would have shelled out 10K to Western Oregon to buy out the 2009 game and take a one-year deal to FLY down to play Occidental.  If Linfield was cheap we would have kept the non-d3 game 25 minutes away and saved a significant amount of cash.  But I'm sure you'll find some fault with this too.

I'm sure there are some Linfield fans that would love a 10 game schedule but I'm one that doesn't.  All that Linfield has done with a nine game schedule is dominate the conference and is one of the better programs in the country.

Great find Rat.  CofI just needs to convince the NWC presidents to let them in and we could have 9 football members a few years down the road.  Crazy....
