Nice observation, I can't answer the "How" just happy and feel blessed that we have the
troupes to, as you say Plug the holes. Freshmen playing like seasoned vet's shows how good a job  the coaching staff is doing preparing these young men for the games. I had to look a few times at my program to see who the Stud running back was.....#4 Shafer. The holes the O-line was giving him I could have ran threw ;) but he did the rest after that. Nice job all around, The D was sharp and the O kept putting up the points.

Not sure what was up with K Josh Kay? He picked a good game to be a little off.

Great day yesterday to be a Cat! It was fun seeing many of you on Friday golfing, and Saturday at the game and the BWC Tailgater. Great time, food & Game. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it a success.
Go Cats!
One game at a time!
Leave no doubt in 2012!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Hey everyone, dropping back in for a quick second. I've always been a big Bearcat fan, and it's nice to see Willamette crack the D3football top 25 at number 22 (a poll I think we should have cracked several weeks ago). Not just on a Bearcat-centric level, but to see multiple NWC teams competitive and getting recognition on the national level.

Looking forward to traveling up to watch Willamette take on PLU this Saturday, but we all know I've had October 27th saved on my calendar for some time now. In my undergrad career, I haven't gotten the chance to see my beloved Bearcats beat the Wildcats, so now that I'm a senior, it's make or break.

Bearcats forever, and I'll try to stop by a bit more often.

I checked the stats and Saturday's game was the highest number of points Linfield has scored over Whitworth. So congrats to the Wildcats for setting a new single game record for most points scored and for most consecutive winning seasons at 57.

OldCatProf ...I agree with your observations.......I like what I'm seeing in the running attack. I would also like to see the Yoder package be a little more diverse. Yoder can pass so why make it so one dimensional when we're at the goal line....he can do a play action and pass it for a quick score to the tight end or other receiver. It's all about mixing it up and not being predictable. They should use #13 like Oregon uses De Anthony Thomas. More like a slot back and get him open in the open field were he can use his speed.

totally agree on Yoder--I have never really understood teams running a "wildcat" package if they only have the guy who recieves the snap running it....seems pretty easy to defend....he has to throw it or hand it off or something in order to keep D's guessing.....and heck, he was 5-5 with a 50 something yard TD pass once he was brought in as a backup so we know he's got the arm......
Go Cats!

I'd like someone to interview Whitworth coach Tully and have him give us a comparison between his impressions of Willamette and Linfield. That would be interesting.

Willamette Moves into #22 Ranking in D3football.com Top 25

Team of the Week
Props to Bearcats Jack Nelson and Tyson Giza for making the D3Football.com Team of the Week:

LB Jack Nelson, So., Willamette
Nelson led all players with 19 total tackles, including 10 solo. He had 1.5 tackles for losses and broke up a pass as Willamette defeated Lewis and Clark. The Bearcats gave up just six points in the second half.

RET Tyson Giza, Jr., Willamette
Giza gained a total of 149 return yards against Lewis and Clark, including returning a missed field goal 62 yards. He grabbed the ball near the back line of the end zone and returned it to the L&C 38-yard line with 10:13 left in the 3rd quarter. Willamette scored six plays later to take a 21-14 lead and went on to win 56-20.
