dang it. I knew someone would quote my original post when I was thinking PLU only lost 1 game that season...forgot about Azusa. So going into the playoffs it was:

Whitworth 7-1
PLU       6-2
Linfield   7-2

Should have checked d3football's archived results before i trusted my brain  :-\

WC11 can correct me if I'm wrong, but with no AQ at the time we were selected by the NCAA.

So no NWC rules/influence, just the selection committee. I don't remember any reasoning behind taking PLU over Linfield. I remember thinking Whitworth was the most obvious of the 3 with only 1 loss (PLU and Linfield had 2).

Ah, that's right. They were Pool B 'at large' bids in 2001. Not quite accurate about 'no NWC influence' though.  I believe PLU's AD was on the committee. Thanks for the link to the conference handbook.

Besides the three-way tie, PLU and Linfield each had an additional non-conference loss (to Asuza and SOU respectively).  So they broke the three-way tie using overall record (selecting Whitworth). Then PLU went over Linfield because of their head-to-head result.

With all apologies to the 'Leave No Doubt' crowd, the bigger slight was the NWC being left out entirely in '07 (or '06?).

If someone can find the official NWC tie-breaker documentation, I'd be curious.  But my money is on Linfield anyway, with fingers crossed for a Pool C ticket for the Lutes to Thousand Oaks.  The current Wildcats are too young to remember 2001 - but I'm sure it's been mentioned.
Whitworth and PLU ended up in the playoffs with PLU beating Whitworth by 1 point in the 1st round....I believe PLU made it to the 3rd round before loosing to SJU.
Yup, PLU beat Whitworth by a point in that '01 playoff rematch (in Spokane) and then beat Central on the road before losing to SJU (in Fargo).

Off topic but through 6 games UPS is giving up 54.5 points per game.   :o  The bad news (I know...) is that the Loggers last three remaining games are against PLU, Linfield, and Willamette.

What are the odds of the Loggers finishing the season with allowing 60 points per game?  In banging out the quick math the Lutes, 'Cats, and Bearcats would have to avg. 71 points per game to get the Loggers to 60 points allowed per game.

Do you take the over or the under?

Hey, WC11

nice job on all the work/info again this year.
I don't see the Lute's or Wildcats puttin up that many points but, after the bearkitties get beat this week they could pile on a bunch as the other two teams head for the playoffs if all goes well.  ;D

Gig Harbor Cat

I have the Cats as a +24 on Sat.

The bearkitties are an ok team, but my take is that they wont be able to man up to us on speed or ability on either side of the line.  We just have too many weapons.  They wont be able to stop our run game, Their QB is going to have problems with their highly rated pass game if he is on his back all day !!  Our D will bring a truckload of salt to the Catdome and pound the kitties all day.

Weather will be--- wait a minute, I dont care about the frickin weather,  we will dominate in any weather.

Phone it in boys
This one is over by the half
Don't see the kitties tapping out, like the dudes last week,  wahhh !!  I dont feel good !!!  Cause I am getting my a$$ handed to me.

Phone it in !!  Again +24  Time to punch our ticket...

GHC out
