Can't really argue with you (you being on an  'island'); but Pool Cs often go DEEP into the tourney.  Not sure whether a C has won (or even made the Stagg), but I know they are often better than a helluva lot of AQs.

Yes--I'm just bitter about the Island rematches.  Clearly there are pool C teams that belong and could win it all.  I think there are several this year that fall into that bucket.  John Carrol is top on my radar for that one.  I'm picking them to beat MHB and make it to the semis.
Go Cats!

Phil  Knight  NIKE logical choice. He may be stretched thin with a new uniform for Oregon every week though.

I know of a few conference runners-up who made the Stagg Bowl.

SJU in 2000, UWW in 2008, and (of course) the '99 Lutes. I also know Linfield beat PLU in the 1980 regular season before PLU took the rematch on their way to that year's NAIA-II title.

Seems like we were runner up in '83 also.  But we lost the final.

One of the new features on the D3 Football site that I enjoy is the pictures of the stadiums for each team on their D3 team page. Along with a few others, I have been bored a little this week waiting for the games to begin. I do look a little like the picture that WC11 posted this week.

So, I started making up things to do that are playoff related. The project that I just finished was to determine (in my estimate) which team (only those in the playoffs) would win the D3 National Championship based SOLELY on their football venue as shown solely on their team page.

In the Mt. Union bracket, Ithaca emerged as having the best football venue (amazing picture by the way). In the Bethel bracket, Wartburg was declared the winner. In the UW Whitewater bracket, it went into overtime. It was close but UWW finally defeats Hampden-Sydney (beautiful setting). In the MHB bracket, the Crusaders new stadium wins easily. In the semis, Ithaca and UWW advance to the finals where Ithaca wins it all. Fun, right? What do any of you think?

We could also have a "you visited them" contest. For example, I have only been to the stadiums of two playoff teams. What about the rest of you? Can anyone claim they have been to ten of the playoff stadiums? That would be pretty amazing!

So that means Bethel loses in the first round? I only say that because the MIAC thread has been talking about stadiums as well. And they all just hate where Bethel plays (minus Bethel fans of course).

As far as Ithaca having the best stadium among playoff teams...I never was a fan of football fields that have a track around it. It puts too much distance between the fans and the field of play. Looking at Ithaca's photo it appears the visitor's stands are closer to the field than the home stands....that's just wrong.

I think betting with that system would be a bad idea.

Warhawk,

Good thoughts, especially about fields with tracks. However, the Ithaca "track" is filled with fans on both sides and I do think the Ithaca side (they are blue and white) of the field has by far the largest seating and number of fans. I have never seen a stadium that has a larger visitor seating area than the home team side (would not make sense). It just looks like an amazing game environment. This was just a fun project. Give it a go and see how you rate the venues.

That photo's is probably from the annual Cortaca Jug game against Cortland State.  With Fox coming aboard and Pacific being more viable I hope we have more games at the 'Catdome that look like this year's 1st PLU game.

Having never made the D3 tour I can only speak to the H-SC stadium. The new grandstand is indeed really nice and the natural bowl is a great place to spread out a blanket and extend one's tailgate while enjoying the game (not necessarily in November, though). But unless they have changed since the last time I was there the visitor's stands are standard-issue aluminum bleachers that would be right at home at most high schools. And in line with 02Warhawk's comment, there is a track around the field that (oddly enough) runs in front of the home stands but behind the visitors, which puts them closer to the action. Close enough, in fact, that anyone who wanted to contribute to the coach/player discussions could probably do so without raising his voice.
I'm behind my alma mater all the way and look for them to make a big splash in the playoffs (the drugs will wear off soon, I'm sure) but from the pictures I've seen of other venues I can't see my way clear to move them much beyond the first round of a "stadium playoff".   :(
